Trains at Bridlington - 19/05/2022

Filmed on 19/05/2022. Moving along and down the Worlds Coast Line through to the second station of the day and one of East Yorkshire's most popular seaside resort towns, Bridlington. (Season 9 Episode 12)
A few changes at Bridlington now see's sadly the end of the Bridlington Semaphore Signals and replaced by signal lights. But, every cloud does have a silver lining as the Bridlington South signal box is still remains. Since the engineering works took place in 2019, the Northern Turbostar units made their induction on Scarborough to Hull services as it started with then. Before hand, these trains ran Bridlington to Sheffield services due to gauging issues between Bridlington and Scarborough.
As a big part of the May timetable change, Northern has re introduced their Bridlington to York via Hull services making for 2 trains per hour between Bridlington and Hull fast and local stopping. But, this has had a big impact on EastRider bus 45 which has seen some big cuts. Due to low passenger numbers by East Yorkshire 45 service, this bus now departs only once a day through to Pocklington.

Between Monday through to Saturday; On the first and last Hull to York services, they would form either a service onto the Harrogate Line or Scarborough or Sheffield diagrams. #JackNewellStalkerTurbo

Thank you David. Apparently it will be an Aldi yes and B&M Bargains. It is to encourage everyone, tourists and holiday makers to use the Bridlington Park & Ride system which is operated by Stagecoach and the Bridlington Land Train. In its hay day and just south of Bridlington station, there are disused sidings and it is where there were several steam locos (think B1's) left for scrap.

Thank you Matt. Nope, there are no barriers at this station. Even if there was, there is a barrier ticket you can buy for 10p if you do end up at staffed Northern stations with barriers on them.

@@RickyNowis My partner come here every August for a few days and I was disappointed to the complete removal of the remaining "home" semaphores had taken place! (even before your your visit on 19 May!) What dismays further is how much railway land has disappeared on the south side of the station. Amazinglly the N.E. Region "refreshments" is still extant but looking less & less tangerine by the year. Thanks for putting this on.

I love this station over the years I have been coming to Bridlington. Also them building works next door to station is much better now an before now the trees and bushes are gone. The one thing about this station is No Lifts for Disabled people with wheelchairs or can't walk far. I have seen the Station staff across the people over the tracks once the Scarborough train as gone. Which is good of them. I'm hoping to visit Bridlington in Summer like August. Last time I came in End of July 2020 When I filmed the journey from Hull to Bridlington in both directions.

A lot of history behind Bridlington railway station. There is a crossing for wheelchair and pushchair users to use with the Northern staff assisting them to get to platforms 4 & 5. Yeah, it is a good system by Northern. Northern are back running 2 hours per hour between Hull and Bridlington with one train per hour to and from York via Hull. Ah yeah, it was nice to see a lot of people after a hard time with the C. Sadly, the semaphore signals are no more at Bridlington but the Bridlington South signalbox remains.

i never knew there was a clas 155 they look just like 153

Yep, the class 155 units are the rarest Sprinter units in the UK as they are now only 7 of them left in service with Northern. It's how the 153's were, converted from the 2 carriage class 155 to 153 units to replace the class 121 Bubble Car units. Only now, the class 153's operates with ScotRail and Transport For Wales. But, the TFW units are the only ones to run as single carriage units mostly used on the Heart Of Wales Line.
