These baskets are a double edged sword. There will be a ton of spitouts. They will make scores higher. On the other hand drives and approaches will really determine who wins. Aces and throw ins probably are going to be few and far between. More challenge yet less exciting. I don't think these will be standardized.

@kimmomatikainen1843Ай бұрын
Is it a spitout if you putt to the outer chains? Those are not meant to catch a disc more than maybe 10-20% of those putts. It is not a good putt. To me spit out is a good putt with a LOT of chains or in the middle of the basket that spits out. This is my opinion and I know that most people don't agree on that. I might make the cage slightly bigger than these and keep the chain part diameter the same. Not sure if inner chains should be heavier and outer chains little lighter and shape inner chains so that they would push disc down to the basket to avoid coming out from the middle. I am not a physists or anything so my thinking might be way off. Lot of people complain (spectators) that putting is too easy. Many say that putt baskets on a mount or ridge. At worlds baskets were on a ridge and got lot of complaints. Put those on mounts and people complain about roll aways. Like they said at the Simpsons. You are damned if you do, you are damned if you don't. One option would be extending C1 rules to C2. Players are getting so much better and improvement is fast..Disc golf is a new sport and been a pro sport only for about 10 years..maybe little more. We have only scratched the surface and are far away from the peak. Sports can't be at the top this fast from its creation. If that big changes (basket changes etc.) are done, of course transition period needs to be long. It would probably screw up rating system unless basket size would be taken into considarion. Smaller baskets = higher rating and so on.

These baskets will be a nightmare for us amateurs, but fun to watch the pros play.
@kimmomatikainen1843Ай бұрын
I am an amateur and I love smaller baskets. I have been a spokesperson for narrower baskets for over a decade and the only person I know who thinks the same has been McBeth. Not much smaller than current ones, but take maybe 2 inches off from modern baskets. These ones would be ok. Marksman would be too small. My C1X putting percentage is somewhere in the range of 75-80% and not much works in smaller baskets. Long putts become difficult. Modern baskets are made for frisbees in the 70's that had way bigger diameter. So discs got smaller, but baskets didn't. Some manufacturers make bigger baskets now for small diameter discs than baskets in the 70's and 80's with bigger frisbees. Being an amateur doesn't mean bad putter. To me putting is the easiest area to practice. You don't need much space so you can do it at home, backyard etc. You don't need much time because you get so much more repeats in short time. 15-45 minutes a day will be ebough to make 200-400 putts a day. Putting doesn't require good physique, fast muscle/cells etc. like really long throwing does. Not everyone can throw 700 ft no matter how you practice, but everyone can learn to make 95% of putts from 25 ft.
@ztsb_konekoАй бұрын

@untrustworthyshelfing9953Ай бұрын
I don't know whether I like it or not. I feel like Ricky's comments on hole 5 make me think that the smaller baskets just favor a particular putting style. The smooth lip and the smaller space inside the basket itself lead me to think that an arcing slow putt will always outperform a fast straight putt on these. I don't hate the idea of a smaller basket in theory, but I feel like it would have to be designed in such a way that it doesn't categorically benefit one style of putting.

What if disc golf disc throwing was an Olympic event? I think it would be better than discus because discus doesn’t have a sport associated with it that I think needs growing. It could also show how you don’t necessarily need to be the biggest muscly person to do well at generating power. The disc could be a standardized 175 gram star destroyer, each gets like 5 throws, no rollers. What do you guys think?

i’ve always been hated the idea of smaller baskets (thinking they would spit out more) these look great though. Interested in seing a tournament being played on them. I don’t think the baskets we have now are a problem for the sport. Throwins, aces, long putts are better for the sport than a little higher scores.
@kimmomatikainen1843Ай бұрын
I think smaller baskets would be more about challenging players so that 35-40 footers would not be more or less a tap in and must make. Now there are so many great putters, but with smaller baskets putting might cause scoring separation among the best ones. Like I wrote earlier (not to you). Is it is spit out if putt is not good and hits outer chains and disc comes out? To me it is not. To me outer chain putts should stay in maybe 10-20% of the times. To me spit out is a good putt (middle or very close to middle) that comes out. Those should not happen, but I don't think it can be completely avoided as long as we have modern type of baskets. I have few ideas in my head how to reduce spit outs, but I'm not a physists or anything like that so I don't know how it would work in practice. Unfortunately I don't have tools (or possibly even skills) to make test baskets, but would love to try. In modern baskets there are 2 types of baskets (little exaggerated). Baskets that "spits out" from the outer chains but not from the middle (e.g. new MVP baskets with chains in 3 layers). Heavy chains spit out from outer chains but chains prevent disc to hit the pole. Baskets that catch discs from outer chains, but usually the weakness is in the middle because of lighter chains and putts to the center spits out. I would always choose the ones that catches putts to the middle and spit out from outer chains. Reward the perfect putt and punish the bad ones. Make the bad putts sort of lucky that it stayed in putts. I know that I am in minority with my thoughts and I am fine with it. Just my view on this. I don't really care that much. I am slowly retiring from the sports and I don't care if I have to use a tree as a target or what basket I have. Anything goes.

Eveliina has been quite average putter this season and last tournament (or the Worlds) had better C1X putting than e.g. Haley King. Yes, still not good, but quite average. Not in the level of Ohn, Holyn, Silva etc. Of course Eveliina is easy to use as an example because she is probably worst putter among top 10 FPO players. I wrote probably because I don't have statistics, but very likely to be so. If smaller baskets were used and she would just lay upp all the putts outside of 10 ft, she might actually benefit from smaller baskets because she would putt twice like she does now quite often and others would putt twice more than they do now.

Putting is the easiest part of the game to practice. It doesn't take much space. Back yard, living room, carage etc. is enough. You get enough (200-400) repeats in a day fast. You only need a handful of putters or just 1-2. There is not many physical requirements. You don't need power, speed etc. to putt 30 ft. Anyone can learn to make 90% of their 25 ft putts. My percentage from C1X is pretty good and doesn't really get much more worse if I tie up the chains. Of course it gets worse, but difference is not as big as you might think. I suck in many other areas of the game and I like doing "Simon things" without the Simon skills. I have absolutely zero interest in ratings so I don't care if my hero shots fail. Problem for most people I know about putting is that they find to too boring to practice.

Not a fan of the built up tee pads at all,no chance of a run up, possibly snap an ankle ,knee etc , ridiculous
@kimmomatikainen1843Ай бұрын
Personally I don't mind because I have a short run-up, but you are right. There are pros as well. After winter these pads melt from snow and ice much faster (air flow, water doesn't stay on the pad etc.). They also stay cleaner (not clean) from mud etc. Water doesn't come to teepad after a heavy rain. Built-up teepad can be melted and pads on the ground level can have 5 or even 10 inches of steel ice that you can't really break. Of course it can be salted etc to fasten the menting process, but it is still a lot slower. Those built up tees can be in use one month before pads on the ground level and one month is quite a long time if disc golf season is from April/May to November. Snap an ankle is not an issue if you learn to adapt your run up. Most of the people throw from the very edge of the teepad even if it was 50 ft long. Usually the mud and slippery is in the front 10 inches and players plant their foot right in front of the pad. You can plant your foot 15 or 20 inches farther from the edge and have a good footing. Of course in short pads it means even a shorter run up but in generally players (even pros) should check if it is necessary to use the whole teepad or if they can get 10 inch reliefe. In throwing distance it makes no difference. I grant that I have seen lifted teepads that have been dangerous. It depends how those are built, size of them etc. If I could build a dream course, there would not be any built up teepads. Just wanted to mention few pros about built up pads, but I acknowledge the issues.
