I have the same Sax as you the allora Paris series Pro in antique matte, I bought a otto link tone edge mouthpiece for it, and had intonation problems, and warble in lower register, that's with mpc pushed all the way on using straight neck, so i bought a Jody Jazz HR NY 7 same thing warble lower and intonation was off. I then bought a Rico B7 Graftonite and pushed it all the way on and my problems were solved, intonation was Much better and No more warble, I then Bought a Rico M7 Metalite and same as the Graftonite B4, the M7 played very Nice and no warble. a Note on the Rico Soprano M7 Metallite you have to go to either Rico direct or Amazon which is fulfilled By Rico. I measured the depth of all these Mouth piece's, that is the neck depths. By using a paperclip, i insert it till it stops pull it out measure it, did for all, and it seems that the Ricos are about a 1/2" deeper into the Mouthpiece, I thought Maybe I could cut off about a 1/4" off the back end to shorten it up. That measurement is Not very scientific, maybe a measurement from where the Neck stops inside the Mpc vs the Chin for each MPC might be more valuable as far as being in tune. I also resurfaced the table, with 1000 grit sandpaper it wasnt perfectly flat, until i resurfaced it. I also have the Allora Vienna Intermediate series Curved Soprano, same issue as far as Mouth pieces Go, the Ricos work great, but my More expensive Mpc's sit in the Box as they do not sound very well on either of my Sop's. I was also Looking at a Vandoren V16, either S6 or S7, heard the S8 does Not sound very good on sops. Im using a Rovner Ligature's i have both Dark and Light Ligs

@@Sirvalorsax maybe too large a facing is not providing enough velocity? velocity is getting washed out through the large facing? that the lower facings are providing? My metalite wouldn’t even play on my Allora Paris. Anything below a G warbled. Could be a pad sealing issue, but with my new Yamaha 5C (also $30) I’m in tune and it sings. Granted, the mouthpiece is pushed on ALL the way still, but I think that’s more a soprano thing in general. Settled on Hemke 3s because I love a dark soprano tone. The La Voz mediums were a bit too bright for my taste but I’ll try them with the band and see how they blend.

If you Modify that Allora Neck please make a video of what mod you did seems you would cut off the ring, i dont know how thick that neck wall is those rings are a stiffener i would expect. I should have mentioned, I recorked Both Necks on my allora Soprano Paris Pro making for a Larger diameter cork to fit the Mouth pieces better but it didnt help on the otto link or Jody jazz. I did this before testing my otto link and Jody jazz.

I upgraded from a Yanagisawa chinese copy to a soprano just like yours. I have the same intonation issues in both horns with the rico mouthpiece. I have tu push it all the way, and it is still not enough, the intonation is still a bit low. I also have a Bari gold, a Yamaha 5c and a Claude Lakey and none of these have this problem. It is a shame because it is a well made mouthpiece, very responsive and has a unique character.

Is it possible to shorten the shank a little? Should be the way it looks/
@joseantoniovasconcelos25364 жыл бұрын
@@walterdewald267 It is not that. It goes all the way into the bore. I thought of asking my tech to cut a tiny part of the tip of the neck, making it shorter. I would do that with the neck of my old cheap saxophone, of course. Let's see what he says...

@@walterdewald267 No bummer. The shank is a problem too, only easier to fix. Anyway, thanks for the comment. I wonder why a big company like Rico goes to the trouble of making mouthpieces that do not play in tune. My guess is that it was designed in the 1980's and since then soprano saxohones have undergone changes in design.

Today I modified my Rico B7 Graftonite Mpc & my Rico M7 Metalite Mpc, I cut off about 3/8" off the back end of my Mouth piece's Shank area to shorten them so they dont interfere with the Octive key Vent. I cut off about 3/8" off the shank's end, I measured before cutting to get it where I wanted the end result to be. I used a short draw Hack saw, leaving enough for sanding to even it up, then I sanded the end of the shank flat with 600grit and followed that with 1000grit for a smooth finish, then washed it out thoroughly. Now when either of these Mouthpiece's are pushed all the way on, the end of the Shank, is about even with the Neck Cork.
