i totally agree. too many cameras trying to be jack of all trades, and yet are master of none. i foresaw this back in the mid 2000s when SLRs started pushing video capabilities. i thought it was a great option for those that wanted/needed it, but lamented the fact that there were becoming fewer and fewer stills only options. i don't want/need video capabilities in the cameras i use for stills work. i just want those cameras to be the best at what they do. i understand that there are many who want both and unfortunately the market seems to be too small to cater to everyone. hopefully, the next iteration of GR will address the few issues that keeps it from being perfect, such as battery life and dust ingress, and will avoid trying to add silly features like 8k video recording.

Brick and mortar camera stores are my preference only if they provide some expertise on photography and the item I’m considering. And for accessories, they’re the only way to go (example - camera bags). And yes, cram everything into a camera and you can compromise what you picked it up to do.. Leica figured out how to serve the Photographer with their M and Q lines. More manufacturers need to back off on video a little and produce at least one purely photographic tool (cheaper than Leica..ouch). Now the Ricoh GR3x is my favorite frustration these days, I use it for B&W street only and struggle with glare (composition) and worries about potential dust issues. Thanks for sharing your settings!

we have 2 brick and mortar camera stores near me in Gloucestershire UK, and The Darkroom processing shop too. A great place to live as a photographer. I use a 8.1 megapixel Ricoh GR digital from 2005 and a Fuji x10.

Great video Matti. I'm new to GR cameras but enjoying it so far with the small form factor. And great to see Helsinki in warmer weather. Last time we were there it was minus 10! We love Helsinki btw. I agree about bricks and mortar stores. We still have several camera stores in central Sydney. One prominent store closed around the time of severe disruption due to transport infrastructure works but I can think of at least 3 well established stores. And recently a Fujifilm specialty store opened so you can get your hands on all Fuji gear in one place - I hope they all do OK in this time of online shopping but particularly the Fuji store because I love their cameras.

I do prefer a brick and mortar store. I like being able to support a local business! I do buy used film cameras from sites like eBay and Mercari, and make sure it’s an individual that I’m buying from. I enjoyed this video! Just subscribed! Thanks for sharing!

I will love to have a small compact full frame sensor Camera in the style like Minox 35 ML Camera and the first version of the Contax T Camera, but just with an EVF, not with an OVF. I loved my Minox 35 ML Camera for candid street Photography.

Thanks for sharing. I'm not sure FF is necessary for a small compact, because smaller sensors are so good. Back in the day 35mm film was the smallest sensible format for any reasonable quality. Also 35mm film was available widely anywhere etc. So there were many reasons to use that. Today that is not any more true and cameras like the GR3/x or Sony RX100 offer excellent IQ in a small size.

@@mattisulanto I am sure that Sony are able to make a compact Camera in the style as the Contax T/Minox 35 ML with EVF, I do want a compact Camera like that with full frame 60+ megapixels and an excellent Lens, so I do not always have to carry my system Camera, I do not want APSC Cameras or smaller sensors any more.

In theory, I prefer to shop (mom & pop) brick & mortar, HOWEVER, the reality in the U.S. is that, I have found that (more often than not), retail employees know almost nothing about the product and seem to only be there for a check, not because they have any particular interest in the product. Just an all-around indifference. Two rare exceptions are the Apple stores and B&H Camera in NYC.

I am using the sigma dp2merill old astonishing compact for sunny day. For Dslr Nikon 28-300 mm good to go sunny day , other days single prime 35 or 50 or 90. I think matter of dslr you can change lens and change flavor it’s like to have coffee with 1 spoon of sugar or more , changing lens it’s sugar and depends from mood. Carry all lenses does not make sense

Hey M, How did you find using the LCD screen in that bright sun? My only reservation about getting a GR is how difficult it may be to frame well on sunny days. With the GR3x 40mm lens, accurate framing is even more problematic.

For me it's never a big problem, but of course an EVF would be better. You can also boost the brightness for better viewing, but I never use that.

I would probably like to have a brick and mortar store to go to first, but that is not an option, at least close to wear I live, so I buy online. I just make sure that there is a good return policy.

I prefer to go to a physical store. I want to hold the camera in my hands, feel the grip, try the buttons. look through the viewfinder, use my sd card and take it home. But. unfortunately I purchase from an online store like Amazon (because of their good return policy) and I save several hundred dollars. I don't see physical stores surviving.

Yes and between this approach and the high taxes and regulations on retailers, it is difficult to survive. Also Amazon is pretty brutal to their suppliers so change might be coming.
