Yup, it is an iconic storyline in the comics. Monumental, not just for Spider-Man, but for comic-book storytelling in general because it showed that the hero can face consequences for his actions, and that not everyone is "safe". When they introduced Gwen for the movies, I did wonder if the studios would have the guts to go through with an adaptation of "The Night Gwen Stacy Died". Even with the telegraphing, it was still a punch to the gut to watch it for the first time in theatres. Really did help that of all the live-action Spidey couples, Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone easily had the best romantic chemistry. So when Gwen dies, regardless of what you think about the rest of the movie, the scene is super affecting and emotional.

The death of Gwen Stacy was one of the most shocking moments in comic book history. Never before had a hero failed that badly, except in their origin story. I disagree with that. I did not feel we needed a build up to the green goblin yet in this film. At that point Harry did not call himself the green gobin yet so I don’t think her death was force in. @jackcrofts-mullin4612 жыл бұрын
@@rtaylor7384 thing is, part of what made Gwen’s death so impactful in the comics WAS the history that Peter had with the Green Goblin. His and Norman’s rivalry had been burning for years, they knew each other’s identity, he’d nearly killed Peter a few times and this was the final spark where Norman went too far and Peter’s rage exploded. The movie’s version was the literally first time that Peter had met or fought GG, so there wasn’t any connection there it just felt rushed and forced in

Having read the comics, the minute I saw what Gwen was wearing in the trailer, I knew. That green coat, the boots, the purple skirt. It's what she wears when she dies in the comics, exactly like that (except off a bridge rather than a clock tower). Peter webs her, but the sudden stop snaps her neck. It haunts Peter for the rest of his life, and he always takes care when he's catching falling people to either catch and cradle them, cocoon them, or web them at multiple points on their body so there's not that sudden stop and snap. More than any other superhero, Spider-Man's life is defined by loss.

I think what is even worse that her just falling and dying is that Peter did catch her with his webs but nobody could've predicted her head would snap back like that and hit the ground. So, in a way, it seems even twice as bad and twice the guilt for him because it looked at first like he "saved" her but he did not in actuality. The more I see this movie, the more I love it. But, I will admit that there does still seem like a few conflicting tones in the movie and like there were too many cooks in the kitchen, so to speak, demanding their own ways and that led to inevitable complications that led to a not so seamless movie as it could've been. I think what happened with this movie is that the studio over-reacted a lot to the criticisms of the first movie. For example, I think I remember criticisms that the first movie was too serious and Peter was too snarky and sarcastic and so, this movie tried to lighten things up so much that it overcorrected. I think Electro and Rhino were a bit too corny and did not match the tone of Green Gobin. But I thought the complaints some fans were giving were too overblown and overexaggerated. I think just a few minor tweaks here and there would've made this an even better movie. There were plans for a Sinister Six movie after this. I think Harry was just there as the Green Goblin just so they could have a good enough reason to set up Gwen Stacy's death, which actually happens the same way in the actual comic books with the clocktower. But, ultimately, I think Harry turning into Green Goblin should've been reserved for the next movie. Do not get me wrong, I love the MCU Spider-Man too, but I would've LOVED to have gotten Amazing Spider-Man 3. Actually, I think even with all the fan hatred this sequel got at the time, what really hurt the movie at the time was so much money was spent to market this movie and so many trailers and TV spots came out for it at the time that it was spoiling a lot of the good parts of the movie and the costs just kept going up an up that the movie now had to make almost 4 x's its budget just to be profitable. The other problem that happened is that around this time when the movie came out is when Sony got hacked and so, they were facing a security problem and a PR problem with all the leaked emails that got exposed. Another problem to add to this perfect storm was Andrew Garfield made some comments about not liking how the movie was ultimately put together and how he had shot some scenes that were not in the movie. He said something about how proud he was of the movie, but the final product was ultimately not as good as what they filmed. That did not make Sony happy. It gets more and more easy for me to now see how the movies Venom and Morbius could take place in The Amazing Spider-Man's universe.

@hanziggy68622 жыл бұрын
@@rafdor5131 Interesting. Wow, I never heard that rumor. Honestly, that sounds like it would've been weird to see and not fit well (at least for me). I know there were some backup plans on what to do with that Civil War movie if Spider-Man and Black Panther could not have been in it. Of course, it's not like Spidey was integral to that movie anyway. But, I never heard the rumor about Garfield possibly being in Civil War. That's interesting. It really is interesting to ponder how different the MCU would've been if certain characters were or were not available to use. For example, if the X-Men could be used by the MCU back then, we may have never gotten a Guardians of the Galaxy and/or Dr. Strange, etc.

In all seriousness, I wonder if she still would've gotten whiplash and possibly broke her neck or at least severely hurt her neck even if she did not hit her head. Also, I think in the first movie, I'm guessing he probably knew how much webbing and length he needed to catch her, plus she was able to swing on it still a good distance away from the ground. Also, it looked to me like an almost simultaneous action where she was thrown out the window and attached to the web or no more than a few microseconds apart?? In this, however, she was already a good distance away from him before he fired his webbing. Plus, I'm guessing him also traveling towards her at the same time and maybe even same speed as she was falling may have played a part in all that too?? I'm guessing even if the webbing caught her in time a few second before, he would have had to stop himself from falling to anchor her. IDK, I'm just speculating here. I'm no scientist, LOL!

Actually, anyone that knows about fall prevention equipment knows that would happen. All that force had to go somewhere, and her head was unsupported. It's why cars have headrests, to prevent the head from going back over the seat in a rear end collision. It's why fall arrest harnesses have the lanyard attach in the center of the shoulder blades in the back. They used to just attach them to a belt, but too many people died exactly like this, or at the least, snapped their backs. Even if her head had not hit the ground, it was highly probable she would have snapped her spine, in a real life situation, of course.

TASM1 not only had the writer from SPIDERMAN 2, but also had a writer from the HARRY POTTER movies, and a writer from ZODIAC All because of LAURA ZISKIN TASM2 on the other hand, had the writers from TRANSFORMERS All because of AVI ARAD #IBlameAviArad

@@_ripVanWinkle_ No it wasn’t the only stuff we’ve seen before is really the Uncle Ben death. Especially the parent stuff none of the other Spider-Man movies mentions. What’s the problem with seeing it again we’ve seen it twice not everyone has seen the Tobey movies. The thing is I have seen newer fans confused about Spider-Man’s backstory if they didn’t see this or the original film because they only see Tom in the forefront which they don’t go into it

If Marc Webb doesn't return for TASM3, then Sony should let PHIL LORD and CHRIS MILLER in charge If they let them produce the movie as well, they could save it from AVI ARAD, just like they did with SPIDER-VERSE #LordMiller4TASM

I love this movie. I wrote an essay about it at uni and made a long video essay about it on my channel. It's OTT and cheesy but that isn't always a bad thing.

The sad part is, the reason why he was saying “stay with me” to Gwen at the end is because his spidey senses can feel and hear her heartbeat slowly fading away. And when he couldn’t feel it anymore that’s when he broke down even more.

You can't blame Spider-Man. The force snapped her back and her head hit the floor and passed away instantly. He tried his best to save her. But he knew he couldn't each her in time. So he shot his web. I've seen this so many times. And it still hard to watch

Never liked how some people don't see it properly when looking at Gwen's death. She doesn't break her back or her neck, her head hits the floor. Even the closed captions say [head thuds]. The nosebleed is even there to indicate her brain is mushed

Also, you guys know about the deleted scene after Gwen’s death where Peter’s father is alive and visits him at Gwen’s grave? There’s no one Peter needed more than him, and he tells him “with great power comes great responsibility.” I like to think that scene’s actually in the movie because I refuse to think otherwise

Has anyone listened to the Electro theme? In the scene with the screens, a whispering voice is heard in Max's head. Unreal cool. Кто-нибудь слушал тему Электро? В сцене с экранами слышен шёпот голосов в голове Макса. Нереально круто.

No matter what I still love this movie. No my favourite at all and nowhere close to perfect but still love it. The death of Gwen Stacy was so well adapted from the comics. I love the overall theme of the movie about Time. Peter keeps fighting time, even in the end literally in the end he is trying to stop time and when he can't everything falls apart. I think the Harry thing was very rushed but I feel like it could have been easily corrected with a "for some reason my father only started feeling this sympthoms (the trembling and the skin things) on his late 40s or 50s but I am already having them". THat way Harry would be more worried and more in a rush to find a solution to his problem. Also, there is a really cool deleted scene of Harry and Peter at Oscorp when Harry tells Peter he is dying wich is pretty good. Some of the cheesy Electro lines could have been cut as well but overall i like him as a villain since he is mostly like other spider-man villains. When they gain their powers they only become an extension of who they really are and that is why Max was the way he was. He was already mentally unstable from the beggining and the trauma of living an invisible life didn't help.

The reason I love this movie is that it had the guts to follow the comic book storyline. They killed gwen just like in the comics. When I saw it in theater, I was just speechless. Andrew really is amazing.

While it’s a great twist it never really worked with me because I agree with the idea that the whole love for Peter Parker is he is a random dorky kid with teen issues who just randomly got super powers from a spider one day like it can happen to any of us. The twist here kind of ruins that feeling. Andrew is still my favorite Spider-Man tho lol
