Ricster Diaries Episode 83 - South, West & East Yorkshire Stations | 02/04/2024

Filmed on 02/04/2024. Now, before we start on this journey, I would like to apologize for the lack on on board train travel rides. Sadly, this is due to an issue with the memory card which has resulted into corrupted files. It did record the journeys but getting them from the memory card onto the laptop caused the thing to crash. Never mind, have to make do with the footage we have. Anyway, will do a second take on the travel rides in the near future. Now, this day will see us travel to Yorkshire's main stations covering 3 out of 4 counties.
Starting the journey at Scarborough, we catch the 06:54 Northern service through to Sheffield via Hull. What makes this service interesting is during the weekday, it is one of very few services which calls at all stations between Scarborough and Hull then express through to Sheffield. A smooth but uneventful journey through to Sheffield. At Sheffield, busy as always with plenty of passenger variety and also with the daily freight working. But, on long term loan from Freightliner to GBRF class 70 is seen working on empty tanker working. East Midlands Railway has been doing their best to put on as much compacity on their Liverpool to Norwich services by having their former ScotRail pairing 170's on them recently.
Next, we then caught the 11:57 Northern service through to the second station in the same county of South Yorkshire, Doncaster. Plenty of 170's for the Scarborough to Sheffield services. Before we get into filming the variety at Doncaster, we managed to get an hours worth of automated announcements which has been modified to play all announcements from all platforms rather than switching platforms. Once we got started, a welcome surprise as we see The Midland Pullman HST set which was seen preparing to work ECS to Crewe as the day before, it ran a special from Hull to Paignton.
Moving onwards to the second county of West Yorkshire and to Leeds, we caught the 15:24 Northern class 331/0 service to Leeds all stations. For those who are not aware, the 331/1's have all been transferred across to the North West region working on services across in: Blackpool, Greater Manchester and Merseyside. In exchange, the 331/0 will all cascade across to West Yorkshire. At Leeds, we managed to sign in without any problems at all and for a busy evening rush hour session. Transpennine Express on this day were running a limited diverted services along the Calder Valley via Hebden Bridge to get to Manchester Victoria. This is due to the Transpennine Route Upgrade works.
Finally, moving onwards to the third county of East Yorkshire. So, we catch the 17:54 Northern service through to Hull worked by pairing of class 158's Cummins engines. This is one of very few Northern services which between Selby and Hull runs express through to Brough and Hull. At Hull, we filmed just under an hour just before the day light faded away for just as busy as ever. Our journey home, we catch the 19:56 Northern service through to Bridlington. However, just north of Beverley, there has been trespassers along the line, this delayed the train by 16 minutes but somehow, the train made up the time of being 12 minutes late but are very key times to make up. And with massive thanks to relatives, we managed to make our connecting bus 21:05 Coaster 13 service through to Scarborough via the Holiday Camps.
