Honestly, his mother's approach to her teachings of him is not perfect. He's technically book and academic smart but not smart in anything basic needed for him to survive once he decides to go on his own in the outside world. She just cooped him up in his room studying, never letting him do anything than that. She also gets to decide everything for him. I really don't know if she sees her son as a human for the way she raise him. I'm surprised that Riddle is still capable of socializing by how he spends most of his life isolated to study and only talk with those who his mother pick for him to interact.

Reading about this, it honestly makes sense, his mom didn't even let him do anything but study, study study. Just because your academic & book smart doesn't mean you are really smart, since Riddle seems to lack experience on some basic needs & experience to live independently & on your own despite reading about it. Having knowledge in things comes from experiencing it after all His mother's teaching is lacking and imperfect

I have to agree that her teaching was lacking in many areas, but not to such an extreme degree. Riddle has recounted experiences in school before NRC, there he would have had to socialize with his fellow students. He mentioned that he was often selected as leader-likely due to his academic skills-but his capabilities would have been decided by his ability to guide his classmates/group members. His level of strictness back then is debatable since Heartslabyul has decidedly more rules and we don’t know if his old school allowed the use of magic on other students, but we have seen that as a leader he always involves the other students and explains their ‘wrongdoings.’ Furthermore, his parents decided against having him skip grades which allowed him more opportunities to interact with his age mates back then & now. In Lost in the Book with Stitch, Riddle also mentioned being excited for a summer camp his mother suggested, as opposed to studying at home. Additionally he is skilled in practical activities conducive to independent living (cleaning, basic to intermediate medical care, setting appointments, organising daily living purchases, applied magic, etc.). While not proficient in cooking he is not ignorant of the importance of a balanced meal and despite having Lilia as his teacher he managed to make a ‘not bad’ pot of soup. And though he is still a high school student he is gaining practical experiences miles away from home at NRC-a ‘controlled’ and ‘safe’ (😬) environment.

I believe Riddle has the potential to be a great chef, but cooking just isn’t explained in a way he understands. For one thing I have those measuring spoons for dash, pinch, etc. and every time I see him struggle with those terms I just want to buy him a set. A scale and more detailed explanations beforehand would also go a long way, in the end cooking (especially baking) tend to lean more towards science. A perfect teacher for him would be Kent from Amnesia!

technicalllyy cooking is a form of chemistry; honestly if someone could just logically explain that to the twst characters like Riddle and Lilia maybe they wouldn't struggle with cooking so much lol..

I’m not too sure about Lilia ‘cause I think he just doesn’t care to follow cooking instructions-Bro doesn’t struggle he terrorises 🤣🤣 Riddle though, expects greater precision and detail than people are willing to entertain. He’d probably do well if he just researches terms and standard practices/expectations like any other topic. *I’m still surprised that emulsification stumped him since it’s just as present in chemistry as it is in cooking.

Riddle's mom kind of made this happen if you ask me. She only ever let him study, she didn't teach him things that he would need to use for the outside world like cooking, and she never let him make choices for himself. She helicoptered him and treated him like a project rather than a son. It makes me feel really bad for Riddle. She's also traumatized this poor child to the point of him being a perfectionist and created his need for others to follow the rules since if you look into the Episode of Heartslabyul manga she takes Riddle with her when she is scolding and yelling at Trey's parents in their bakery as well as bringing the then 8 year old Riddle to tears by scolding him so terribly (we see some of this in the game proper but we don't see her scolding Trey's parents in the game we just hear about that if I recall). I feel if given the chance and explanation in a way that Riddle understands, he can excel. He does so in way of schoolwork. I think he could be good at things like cooking if it is explained properly so he can understand.
