R53 owner here, great purchase. I would recommend to anybody considering the last 2 years of that generation 05-06 if you can, avoid earlier years like this one unless really cheap like this example . Also avoid the R56 S with the N14 turbo engine (07 to 11) at all cost!

A B A B Please read the threads on NAM (North American Motoring.com). I’ve never met an R56 owner without issues unfortunately. Granted the R53 has its own issues (Power steering fan, coolant expansion reservoir, valve cover gasket, front lower bushings, cheaply made oil dipstick) but all relatively minor compared to the oil starvation/carbon buildup issues often found with the N14 Peugeot Prince engine. Again, don’t take my word for it, please do yourself a favour and go on NAM and read the extensive owners write ups on that issue.

@@monsieurdiecasts3393 my R55 was a nightmare, sadly I was already into the car for 10k buying it when I thought I got a deal at 60K miles and clean car fax history, that engine took a 5k dump on me Leaking turbo, leaking injectors, bad cat from all the fuel and oil dumping into the system. I am still thinking i might have a small leak in my head gasket but I am not seeing the signs of it, from a pressure test and coolant test. so now into the R55 n14 for 15k, 6k more then the value of the car currently.

Tricks.. 1. Hold down the open button on the keyfob, windows go down and sunroof opens to cool the car down in hot weather before you get in. 2. Hold the lock button and the windows and sunroof close 3. Glove box is air conditioned, acts like a fridge for drinks 4. Zero torque steer - if it is then something is wrong. 5. At 220km an hour (136 MPH) it sucks the ground and drives like you are doing 80km..

Great deal for a fun little car. No matter what you buy if it is used you will have to put some money onto the car to get it perfect. That is why used cars with cheap repair parts are the best ones, if you don't mind getting your hands dirty you will save a lot of money. I do hear the Mini is a pain to work on and the parts are not very cheap however but for less that $1500, it's a steal.

So finally is it a good car worth it to give in 2019 5000$ for a mini cooper s 2006 good condition???Is there any possibility to be lucky and avoid easy damages ?or is a pain in the ass?
@TaylorSmithAutomotiveChannel5 жыл бұрын
I ended up selling mine for $3,900. If the 2006 you are thinking about is a lower mileage example with a good maintenance history, I would say $5,000 would be fair. Mine had 154,000 miles and was neglected pretty badly, which is why I basically had to bring it back from the dead. All in all, I really liked the car and would recommend one to anybody looking for a small performance car on a budget. I have seen many examples of these R53 Minis going well over 200,000 miles when maintained properly. If you are mechanically inclined, you shouldn't have many costly repair expenses. However, if you don't do your own work, I would anticipate spending quite a bit of money on repairs with a good european mechanic. A local shop quoted me $1,600 to replace the clutch in mine. Needless to say, that is why I did it myself.

Interior rattles drove me insane too! as did the steering wheel controls (they put them behind the wheel so you can't see them - it's all by touch) the amount of "Common Faults" is not good on these either, but they are that cheap now, if you know your way around cars, these little cars are a whole heap of fun on a budget :)

You realize that the BMW MINI is actually made in Oxford England just as it has always been for the past 60 years. The only difference is that BMW invested 900million in making the factory almost fully robotic. The MINI brand is very different from the BMW brand and until recently did not use BMW german made engines.(the F series uses BMW made engines)
@realMaverickBuckley5 жыл бұрын
The Tritec was also built by Rover with BMW consultancy. Rover suggested using an updated and supercharged version of the legendary K series engine which made more power than the tritec/Triton engine and was a twin cam. But BMW wanted an 'all new' engine. Kind of a shame but the engine us pretty bloody bomb proof. Bang a 20% pulley in there, cat cam, airtec stage 3 intercooler, water injection and a remap and you've got 240+ BHP and many torques for not alot.
