to you guys asking why a fire truck went and why firefighters would go on a medical call.. its because in los angeles county most firefighter are also paramedics and the ambulance is provided by a private company and its staffed with emts which can not handle all medical calls. the engine carries all the ALS gear on it. most cities in socal dont have there own ambulances they just contract a company.

+jim smith Same where I live in Arizona. We have AMR, which has EMTs so a fire engine goes to the call, and when the ambulance transports, a firefighter rides with the ambulance to the hospital.

To get a ride along it is easy when your above the certain age, all you need to go to the station, ring the door bell, and ask. If you under there ride along age limit then you need your parents to sign a waver and you get to get on a truck for a ride along. Also, in the this departments and other departments have contracted EMS ambulances to come so we send a Engine company to get there faster. LACoFD sends there engine for man power and get them prepped for transport even faster than having only 2 guys.

Nostalgia....the ridealong I ever did was with LACoFD Station 73 when I was in Fire Science classes at COC. Then I was hired as a firefighter/EMT in Arizona. Thanks for the video.

Not too often you see a modern truck with a manual transmission. LACoFD ran sticks well into the 90s.....even on the tilt cab rigs like this.

Holy crap, I grew up there! Flying down San Fernando Rd....blowing by Lyons Ave...past the Metro Link station and Newhall Hardware, then back onto San Fernando past Hart Park heading down to the 14! I drove that exact route every day...what a nostalgia trip :) SCV forever, Baby! Oh, and those SCV LACoFD Firefighters are BEAST! It's around 95-105 degrees everyday from July-October in Newhall and they get a LOT of brush fire calls!

Most fire departments and police departments will let civilians "ride along" with them for a day or a shift. You just spend time with the crew or officer and respond to the calls like its a normal day. You dont assist them in anyway you just ride along.

LAFD operates ONLY in the CITY of Los Angeles. This is NOT Los Angeles, it's the city of Santa Clarita. LACoFD operates in unincorporated areas of LA County and cities without their own fire departments like West Hollywood, Santa Clarita, Carson etc.. LAFD and LACoFD are two completely different agencies.

Du fragst das FD einfach an. Manche haben schon extra Formulare mit denen du dich anmelden kannst. Meistens wird dem Chief der Wache oder dem Wachleiter für den Tag das vorgelegt und der entscheidet dann. Solange keine Regeln dagegen sprechen (z. B. du darfst nur mitfahren wenn du in der Region wohnst) sind die auch für alles offen ;D Die FD's in' USA sind echt klasse und richtig gut drauf :) Wenn ich nächstes Jahr 18 bin kann ich auch endlich in Page, AZ, mitfahren :D

Es fährt auch nicht jeder mit.. Solche ride alongs sind ne nette Sache, an denen ist nichts schlimmes. Zudem geht das bei viele FD's mit (auf behördendeutsch gesagt) Antrag stellen und bei einigen dürfen nur Leute mit, die in der Stadt oder Umgebung auch den Wohnsitz haben.

Das US-System weicht deutlich vom deutschen ab. Zum einen gibt's Engines etc. als first responder zum anderen als (teils ALS) rigs die zu schwereren Notfällen mit rausfahren oder zu leicht übergewichtigen Patienten. Somit mehr Hände zudem sind die meisten ff mind. EMT ist. -Mehr Hände für die Versorgung. Allerdings kann auch ein 2. ALS or BLS ambulance mit hingesandt werden. Was in D. das NEF ist, ist dort 2. amb, fly car or engine, etc.. Und das ist kein bisschen schlechter.

Is this a structure call.. NO, it's a MEDICAL call. My comment was based on the medical call viewed here, did you watch the video ? Or do you just read the comments and make up your own notions on what the video is about ? Three units to a medical call is waste of resources. Again, I work for the ambulance service in the UK as part of a rapid response (by my self) one unit is sufficient unless back up is required. Structure fires we respond the same way all near by stations are alerted.
