Very nice! I don't often cycle in the countryside, but everytime I do I find it quite calming. You've done a couple videos in Tilburg, What do you think of the city? Obviously the bike infrastructure isn't as good as it is in some other places, but I think people kind of overreact with how bad it is. Sure there are alot of cars in Tilburg, but cycling is a perfectly viable way of getting anywhere in the city in my opinion. (also, unrelated to cycling, but people always say Tilburg is ugly, and although I can't fully disagree, I feel it's unfair. I find it quite unique compared to other cities! sometimes positively, sometimes negatively)

Did you see the the small streetsweepers in the beginning of the video, with the brushes up front? Every municipality in the Netherlands has them! With a army of workers to sweep debry in front of them, especially with Carnaval, Football matches or any other parties. The unsung heroes of our country, they keep our country need and tidy, well paid and loved. They also trim the hedges and trees and do the upkeep of public gardens. The Netherlands isn't clean by chance, we employe ppl and give them a livable wage. So tourists can say: Die Niederlände ist so geplegt/Le Pays bas c'est tellement engagé/The Lowlands are so well taken care of. Grafitti is removed and a layer of easily removable paint is applied. Except for places where 'Art is encouraged'. This doesn't happen by circumstance ppl! We make it happen😏

General questions: - when pedestrians use the cycle path, is it the rule/law to walk on the left side (onto incoming traffic)? - who is supposed to yield… I’m assuming the cyclist?
@ChristiaanHW9 ай бұрын
there are no official rules about these things, it's all up to the people and circumstances. but yes the safer way is to walk on the "wrong" side of the road, into oncoming (cycling) traffic. this way you're able to see them coming and you don't get "ambushed" by someone coming up behind you. about the yielding: it's customary for the cyclist to slow down a bit (depends on how much space there is between the cyclist and the pedestrian, if there is plenty of space the cyclist might not even have to slow down). but if one of the 2 has to make room, it's easier for the pedestrian to take a step to the side than for the cyclist to have to go off-road or come to a complete stop. most of cycling etiquette depends on circumstances. and because cycling is low speed both the cyclist and other people around have the time to judge the situation and figure out how to act. most of this interaction is done non-verbal, so by looking at each other and maybe by hand signals. but often just looking at each other is enough for cyclist to know how the situation is going to play out.

@@shm5547 depends on the cycleway (separated). Some are designated by signage as bicycle and moped cycleway, others only allow bibycles and light (blue plated) mopeds. Bicycles, ebikes, electric cargo bicycles, robo taxis and escooters are great options for last mile, short distance travel. Reduced transportation costs and fossil fuels free transportation. Cities need to do more to encourage people to ride bicycles by providing SAFE, PROTECTED BIKE LANES and trails. Every adult and child should own a bicycle and ride it regularly. Bicycles are healthy exercise and fossil fuels free transportation. Electric bicycles are bringing many older adults back to cycling. Ride to work, ride to school, ride for health or ride for fun. Children should be able to ride a bicycle to school without having to dodge cars and trucks. Separated and protected bike lanes are required. It will also make the roads safer for automobile drivers. Transportation planners and elected officials need to encourage people to walk, bike and take public transportation. Healthy exercise and fossil fuels free transportation. In the future cities will be redesigned for people not cars. Crazy big parking lots will be transformed with solar canopies generating free energy from the sun.

They are allowed but are supposed to go only 25 or 40 km an hour. However, people from 16/20 years mostly ride these things and the coolest thing is to have one that goes much faster. I used to have one myself which could go 80. 100% illegal and i was probably a danger to people on the road but i was 16. It was fun to work on it and make it go faster. Kids do not always make the best decisions.
@moraes_m61879 ай бұрын
@@dramtoet1809 Thank you for your answer, but what I mean is WHY are they allowed?
@dramtoet18099 ай бұрын
@@moraes_m6187There are 2 types of mopeds. One that goes max 25 km hour, no helmet required, can ride on the bike line. Others 40 km hour, with helmet, have to ride with cars most of the time. Unless the speed is above 50 km for the road they also go on the bike lane. However, the bike lines are usually sort cuts so sometimes people on fast mopeds ride them although they are not allowed.

is it a rule in that part of the country to have very low hedges....
@lws73949 ай бұрын
They are boundaries or like fences, but not like a wall ! Why would you build a 2mtr wall around your garden . With the small garden that gives a feeling of claustrofobia. The outside world does not equal danger. For a private seating they'll have a back garden. High hedges block the light and views, are hard to maintain and to have higher ones along the road might be bad for visability safety ... anymore reasons ? And no it is not a rule.
@caelorum9 ай бұрын
Well for corner properties the corners need to be kept below a certain height so that traffic can see each other. Other than that: more eyes on public space equals less crime. There is a well researched inverse correlation between crime and eyes watching.
