Ride on a Northern Rail Class 142 Pacer Train 1/8/18

In this video we take a ride on a Northern Rail Class 142 Pacer Train (142013) on a service from Rose Hill to Manchester Piccadilly.
These trains are known as Britain's Most Hated Train due to their Noise levels , Ride Quality and Comfort this is mainly due to their design which is a Leyland National Bus Body on a Railway Freight Wagon Underframe the trains entered service in 1985 and were built by BREL.
All Northern Class 142 Pacer Trains are due to be withdrawn in 2020.
So sit back relax and enjoy this Loud , Bouncy and Rattly Ride on one of the Unpopular & Hated Class 142 Pacer Trains.
I personally like these trains from my experience of the pacer I think they are fun to travel on

My guess is that if you had to ride one of these every day to/from work, often in crowded conditions, without climate control, you may not like them so much. It is loud and squeaky...you can still enjoy the sounds of a Diesel engine without feeling like you are in the engine compartment! Oh, and Dec 2019 doesn’t look like it will the end of Northern’s Pacers. My guess is summer 2020.

I'm sure heritage railways could buy a few & sell trips for the Pacer experience - rocking & rattling along - at a premium. The one really good thing is the user-operated windows, I miss them these days

This is the best pacer ride video out there, good sound quality, authentic experience. Sorry to see these trains go, something nostalgic about them. Modern trains just don't have the same character, and they have more cramped saloons.

The seats look like they're straight from a bus from the 1970s... there's a reason for that I guess :-)

I remember riding one once to go up to Windermere and a passenger was walking between the two cars and the train bounced at that second and he went flying forwards. The guard came rushing out in a state of panic. Old clunky trains these are.

In terms of Health And Safety, these Pacer trains are the biggest threat not just to its passengers but actually to British Rail.

Even the Leyland National Bus was noisy inside, mainly due to that underfloor and unreliable horizontal Leyland 510 Engine, which was once described as sounding like a tin of marbles banging about under the floor. Even on the Mk. II Nationals with their newly introduced Engine options were still noisy, now with added vibration if a 'Gardner' or Cummins Engine was fitted.

I don’t mind these trains it’s the horrible noise it makes when braking that annoys me it’s so loud and cringy.

The squealing sound pacers make is due to them having fixed axles instead of bogies, built on the cheap bus conversion.

03:11 I’ve narrow boated my way to Manchester across that aqueduct. It took a lot longer, and was a bit of a workout, but it was considerably more fun than the Pacer!

A pacer sounds like a bloody bus I hate it it sucks do u know why? The toilets suck everything is moving to side to side and a the seats are like so uncomfortable don't hate on me its a opinion
