Why did almost all VLA types (ALX400) have loud cooling fans activated on route 123?

No idea, loud cooling fans was usually associated with a fault and/or bad design on Volvo buses

Why did AR bus garage get rid of their VLAs from 76-98 in late 2015 and got the older VLAs from Norwood?

Sorry, no idea, perhaps the newer ones could be refurbished and sent to other Arriva depots outside of London, and the older ones would be used until withdrawal and scrap? I'm only speculating.
