This is the kind of post I look forward to watching more than once because of Tim narrating so much interesting detail along the way. Discovering this channel and a couple of aviation channels I subscribe to has made my hobby-interests-life more interesting and educational but less productive in keeping-up with the honey-do list LOL. At age 76, so be it.

I enjoy watching your videos, especially the northeast corridor and the Raritan valley line. You certainly know your CNJ history very well. They had some of the most beautiful stations. My father worked for the CNJ and on the day before the Aldene plan took effect we took the train to Jersey City to ride the ferry one last time. Keep up the good work!

Netherwood is also in Plainfield, so 2 out of 4 Plainfield stations are still in use. Right before the old Queen tower (or right after it going the other way) you cross over Richmond Street. That's the street I grew up on. Edit: The old armory was just east of Netherwood, one block south of the tracks at Leland Avenue and 7th Street. It's a charter school now.

I will be happy to see them bring back service via the old Reading Railroad to West Trenton and hopefully bring back service to Easton and Philipsburg

I have to see the rest of the line from Raritan to Highbridge - on another video there was an old F-7 locomotive stored on a siding somewhere past Raritan - don't know if it is still there.

@@3985uprr I will look into that one - thanks ! Correction- the locomotive was an F-3 ( I saw the chicken wire grills on the sides )

Do you know when that new span of the Portal Draw Bridge is due to be completed? I think that bridge is what members of Congress even from Colorado are referring to when they mention the disaster for rail commerce/passenger service that would occur if it became stuck/inoperable.

I believe one of the tracks will open by 2025 and then full open in 2026.

'Did a round-trip on the Philipsburg to Newark trains. You can blame my fellow Pennsylvanians at least partially for the route truncation. The last stop for the trains was Philipsburg (without a platform). However, the trains tied up at Allentown yard. NJ transit needed an "avoidable costs" subsidy to legally stop at Easton, Bethlehem, and Allentown. It amounted to what a used car might cost today. Neither LANTA (Lehigh and Northampton Transportation Authority), nor PENNDOT was interested in providing this subsidy. The political winds had changed. Service from the Lehigh Valley and Newark to Philadelphia also stopped. SEPTA hadn't added ventilation to the new Center City Commuter tunnel; and they also refused permission for NJ Transit to run above ground from West Trenton to 30th Street.

**UPDATE Y’ALL** Tomorrow 4/4/23, I will be taking this train (That is of course RARV Train 5175) in its entirety from PSNY to High Bridge. I do have a “scheduled” Virtual 5K and I wanted to find some awesome scenery for it. High Bridge, although very hilly, is indeed a very scenic area to compete virtually at. This 5K race is for an event happening Saturday, April 29, in-person in Milford, Michigan. This event is called “Prove It 10K & 5K,” and it will be held at General Motors Proving Ground in Milford. I compete ahead of the in-person participants due to other stuff in my schedule for that weekend. I signed up for the virtual Double, where I compete virtually in both the 5K and 10K. The 10K will be done at “home” in my university 2 weeks after tomorrow so no need to worry about mass transit conditions.

My understanding was that gauntlet tracks were provided so that brakemen hanging off the sides of freight cars wouldn’t lose a couple of toes to station platforms.

It's hard to find direct service from High Bridge to New York Penn after midday. If you miss Train 5746, it's over for you; maybe you'll need to find an Uber or something along those lines

The line west of Raritan is single tracked, so during PM rush and late evenings they only run outbound trains to High Bridge. They can’t store them at High Bridge though so I guess they deadhead them back to Raritan so they can get out of the single tracked part sooner. I’ve never actually ridden all the way out there so I’m not sure.

Bound Brook, sadly, is now strictly off limits to rail enthusiasts. The local crowd there ruined it for everyone. My friend confirmed this with me.

Conrail reroutes through the Cranford and Westfield stations? No issues with clearance there being they don’t have gauntlet tracks?

I took a peek at the union and roselle park stations via google maps. When I zoomed in, both tracks at union have gauntlets but at roselle park only the eastbound track does. Interesting…
