front and rear diff look to be different ratio... cheap fix is different size tires front to rear. looked like the front was underdriven so a slightly taller tire out front would fix the binding issue that is causing heat. new sub here.

Thanks for the sub! We’re gonna go back to stock internals maybe with some upgrades and roll with it. Maybe save up for one of the hill killer diffs. They seem to be legit!

Haha you just gotta give them a minute to get it out of there system then it’s all good! From talking to a good friend grimrzr he reminded me that the Hilliard diff has to be a different ratio than the trans in order for the 4wd to engage and work the way it does. We got to drink some wobbly pops and hangout with good people that night though. Always fun at the off-road park!

The spool binds everything. The gear ratio in the front of all Polaris is different in the front than the rear
@CrashCitySxS Жыл бұрын
Yup that’s what we’ve been finding out. Everything points to spool bad lol. Thanks for sharing the info! We’re kinda not surprised though. Just wanted to try it with the hydro steer. Live and learn
@BJ-fi7mx Жыл бұрын
Yes sir anytime and I’m sure u have already seen why they do the gear ratios that way
@WhiskeyTangoFoxtrotOffRoad Жыл бұрын
@@CrashCitySxS They're just not meant for roads and extended driving. Main reason I'm not going that route. However, I know the spool has to feel smooth with the hydro.
@genebond Жыл бұрын
As I understand the Polaris Front 'Diff', it is geared 20% lower than the rear. That way, on hard surfaces the Hilliard clutches act like a one-way bearing, and are over-driven, thus free-wheeling. When the rear slips 20%, the front catches, and starts to pull. So, if you lock up the front, the rear is trying to push the front around, and something has to give. But, I'm not sure what you modified, so maybe it's supposed to handle the over-driven issue with one-way bearings, or some other magic.
@CrashCitySxS Жыл бұрын
Hydro is soooo smoooooth. It’s nice. Ya we check the miles from dtf to past the campground and back. It was like 1.1 or something like that. Spool definitely doesn’t need to see any road at all lol. We’re taking it out

@derekmiller8705 Жыл бұрын
The style and design of the diff is overdriven on all the machines . So I think your theory is to why it’s failing prolly lines up but mainly the fact of it being spooled so driving down the road or any high speed driving over driven is taking a tole on that driveline. If you could go in and out of 4 wheel drive it shouldn’t be an issue being it’s locked anything that’s faster riding is gonna be strain. Good thinking guys
@CrashCitySxS Жыл бұрын
Yup you nailed it. Grim rzr reminded me that they are overdriven by design so that the Hilliard diff stays engaged. So add the full spool in there and it’s not designed to handle that
@derekmiller8705 Жыл бұрын
Or yeah tweaked shaft at the yolk. That could for sure cause it imo
@CrashCitySxS Жыл бұрын
Yokes we’re good after we welded them by hand lol. Got lucky with no wobble and after a half mile ride on the road the ujoint got hot spit out the grease and you couldn’t hold you hand on the yokes. I think it was getting hot on the hard pack trails too. Trail was perfect no dust hardly at all but I’d look in the mirrors and swore she was kicking up way more dust than anyone else. Almost thinking I was seeing smoke or steam. Wish we would’ve had a camera to show the liquid metal dripping out the joint in the dark. It was quite a sight for a rzr lol
@derekmiller8705 Жыл бұрын

Drive line wind up is no joke i've seen it happen on trucks as well it probably would have been fine in the dirt but no good on hard surfaces
@CrashCitySxS Жыл бұрын
Kinda got the feeling it’s causing problems on the dirt too. Earlier this year when the ujoint gave up the yoke on the diff actually bent enough just to left the joint fall out. Never seen one bend that much. Kinda figuring heat had something to do with it. No road riding that day

@@CrashCitySxS after seeing your video about the gearing in the Turbo R trans, do you think Polaris had to change the gearing in the front diff for it ?, Edit, I just checked the IPL and the 22 Turbo R and the 22 Pro XP have different part number
@CrashCitySxS Жыл бұрын
Hahaha. I think it’s possible to launch the clutch kits maybe possibly keeping my fingers crossed by the end of the week.
@CrashCitySxS Жыл бұрын
Idk I haven’t gone that far down the rabbit hole on the turbo r yet. That just all depends on what they have beyond the stage two gearsets. They always like to change the pinion/output/ring gear and not give any tooth counts. Did learn something interesting from grimrzr while go on the phone with him. The diff and trans are slightly out of whack by design so that the Hilliard diff works the way it does. Makes a lot of sense because the rear has to slip to engage the diff. Being spooled up locks it all together and stresses the driveline
