These two underrated legends got a great late-career western masterpiece, directed by none other than Sam Peckinpah. This is one of the best Westerns ever made, in my opinion! I have read the single most fake detail in westerns, besides the fast draw, was only having one horse. Going anywhere without at least a couple animals was not done I guess.

kind of dumb standoff in the end; nice of the good guys to stand right next to each other for easy targets, at least the pistol shooting was somewhat authenic as. they were never accurate like the usual gun slinger movies show.

Oh really ? His range was very limited. True of a few others too. Guy Maddison, Dana Andrews. Yul Brynner , Rory Calhoun, Lee Van Cleef etc.

I wonder if anyone but me realizes that the 'old' Virginian (Mccrae) and the 'new' Virginian (James Drury) shot and killed each other in this movie..very very very strange indeed+
