Use screws unless you're not worried about how tough the quarter pipe needs to be. And remember to drill pilot holes for the screw unless you want to crack your 2by4

Screws take longer than a nail gun, but are better for multiple reasons. Mainly, if you ever want to make changes or repurpose the wood the takedown is a lot easier, and you won't have to pound out all the nails.

2x4's crowned up are just FINE but i can see why you use 2x6's for long term heavy duty use but as far as a budget goes if you use 3/4'' plywood the seperation between studs if every 8'' is plenty with a 2x4'.

Question is how many plywood and 2x4 do you need to build one quarter??

Very sharp carpentry skills there Jonah Owings! If someone wanted to build one of these (for younger kids) and make it a 5 or 6 ft wide ramp instead of 8ft, do you think 2x3's would be sufficient instead of 2x4's ? I'm thinking of making a 3ft high ramp for my 9 y/o and doing just that since I've already got a bunch of 2x3's. (Lumber is expensive here in Canada). I would still space them every 8" and use 3/4 inch plywood for the tranny's. It would also make the ramp lighter for easy displacement to and from the driveway. Your opinion? Those with trash talk can abstain from commenting.

yeah, usually you'd have a flat bit in between the 2 quarter pipes as well

if you wanted a halfpipe, would you just made x2 of the quater pipe?

rednut416 yes but you would have to add a ground otherwise you would just stop between the 2 quarters
