I picked up an LS2 Explorer and I've been very happy with it. Outstanding value for the price with fiberglass construction, adjustable peak, very well ventilated, ECE, and lightweight. Peak is actually aerodynamic enough to keep on for highway riding which was a nice surprise.

I also got the LS2 carbon Explorer. I'm not a fan of it. Shell way to big in size. Came with rust on inside components. The black flip down visor broke on the first ride. The lower foam parts regularly come loose. I rate this helmet as pure trash

After watching a lot of helmet reviews, I couldn't help but notice that people always love the most expensive helmets. So, now I am curious if they don't actually love them but actually feel like they have to love them because they were so expensive. I'm digging the Klims but really like the flip down shade.

Old comment I know, but once you wear an expensive helmet like an Arai, the quality is apparent. If you have the cash it's worth it. If not, you'll be just fine with a cheaper helmet.

@@RiggadonDan there are plenty of expensive helmets that have lower safety ratings that their inexpensive counterparts. It's all about the research because these companies can be really sneaky with there certifications. I found an HJC helmet for under $300 that outperformed thousand dollar helmets in the Snell tests.

Yes and no. Sometimes companies try to sneak cheap materials into premium helmets but this is rare. However as with most premium products it's a game of diminishing returns. That said, u wear thing for several hundreds of thousands of hours... At that point price becomes less of an issue imo

I am currently wearing a Nolan N70-2 X, medium but I have been eyeing the Scorpion EXO-AT950. I am just shy of 5'10", 205lbs, 30" inseam. In the right boots I can just flat foot either of my bikes but it's a stretch. I ride a 2016 Concours 14 and a 2021 Honda CB500X. I put 5,000 miles on the CB500X this summer touring the Western U.S. States and National Parks with my family. I added the small puig clip-on windscreen to the oem windscreen in it's raised position. Rain protection is minimal but buffeting is not an issue for me.

Scorpion EXO AT950 here. I am a 62YO male rider at 5'6" with a 32-inch inseam. I ride a BMW R1200GSA Low and Honda CRF250L Rally - both with stock windscreens. Compared to my Shoei Neotec II road helmet, the Scorpion EXO AT950 adv helmet has a bit more buffeting while riding either bike. I eventually got used to it just by riding more and getting movement-specific muscles around my neck a little stronger. One thing I would add: Off-the-bike "land drills" become even more important (i.e. strength and flexibility exercises) as you age and become a more "mature" rider. Cheers! P.S. The Scorpion EXO AT950 runs small, so I ordered a size up. I believe the shell sizes from L to 3XL are all the same, so you can make adjustments by ordering the appropriate liner that fits you the best.

Previously using Scorpion for about 2 years. Removed the peak due to vibration in highway ride. Love the internal dark visor. Now using Arai. It fits perfectly after removing the 5mm liner. Been using it a year for city ride and highway ride. Good ventilation and great aerodynamic without vibration at highway speed using the peak. Tested on bikes with and without windscreen. I've had my Shoei Hornet X2 for about 6 years now. I love it. It is incredible for anything on the road, and for all but technical off roading. The sound proofing works really well, the fit is very comfortable, the peak design is rather ingenious and doesn't catch wind unless you turn your head sharply. One of the only downsides is it doesn't move much air. It's fine if you're bombing along, but if youre do more technical, slow speed stuff, especially when it gets warm... you'll be soaked. It's also rather heavy, which is good for bombing along, but not so good if you're getting technical and looking down to plan your line, your neck will be sore. Overall 9.5/10, I love mine and the pure white looks sharp and catches the eye! I ended up buying the Bell on this video as well for when it is hot out.

I rock the Bell MIPS on my T7 (stock screen). 6'1" 165lbs If I am sitting normal and get on the freeway, my brain is shaking. If I scrunch down a little, no buffeting. So, if you are under 6' with that setup, smooth sailing.

I agree . I am 6' but have a long torso and shorter legs . At 40mph the buffeting starts and gets worse as you go . I swapped out the stock screen on my Tenere 700 for the Touratech tall windscreen and it's made a big difference . Still wear the ear plugs though , deaf enough as it is . How'd you like the T7 ? I am coming from a DR650 that I bought new in 2018 and that was my first motorcycle . After 2 years but not that many miles on it I knew it was just not enough for longer stretches of highway time but I sure miss how light it felt compared to my Tenere .

I have the same helmet and bike. I live in the Deep South, USA. The helmet doesn’t flow enough air in the blistering heat and humidity down here. It’s fine when the temperature is 70 degrees F or cooler. My only other gripe is that my ears get very sore after a long day of riding from the pressure from the helmet. Mine is fitted with a Cardo comms system. That isn’t what’s making my ears hurt though. My ears hurt the same before the Cardo was installed. It feels like the ring of padding around the speakers are to thick and start putting pressure on the tops and back of my ear lobes after about the 5-6 hour mark. It’s not unbearable but it hurts like the devil when I go to take the helmet off. It’s a very comfortable helmet otherwise. I thought the weight would be a problem due to a bulging disc in my neck from being rear ended by an idiot driving while surfing FaceBook on his phone. It has not been an issue for me and I just drove the bike 850 miles in a two day trip. I also love the bayonet style or whatever it’s called buckle system on the Shoei. It’s fast and easy to use unlike the double D-rings used on a lot of other brands. I tried a Krios Pro but the sizing apparently runs kinda small on them. I wear an XL in the Shoei but the Klim was painfully tight in the same size. It’s a super high quality helmet and super light. It just didn’t fit me and they didn’t have a 2xl for me to try on. The magnetic latch thing is a thing of beauty. I love my GSA. It’s just a spectacular bike.

I have a high spot in the center of my head that has caused discomfort in some of my helmets. It didn't occur to me to slightly depress the eps foam; what I did instead was use some half inch wide window sealing foam strips, foam with tape on one side, and put a 3 inch length on the eps liner on either side of my high spot. Now my high spot fits between the two foam strips, and with it between the comfort liner and the eps, I can't even tell anything is there.

This is my second season with the Scorpion. Riding a T7, 5'8', 30" inseam standard seat, stock windshield. A fair bit of buffeting at speeds higher than 40mph. The issue mentioned about it affecting vision became part of this buffeting at about 60mph. I installed a kit to allow raising the windshield higher and that resolved it. I use earplugs most of the time but the noise isn't bad now that the buffeting issue is resolved. Definitely not the coolest or lightest helmet offroad but I agree with the bang-for-buck point of view.

Two riding seasons ago, I grabbed two helmets.. 1 was an O'Neal Sierra II [More for Off-road riding] 2 was the Scorpion EXO AT-950 [More for On/Off-road riding] Both KILLER lids! Both Extremely comfortable! Both Great Quality-to-cost-ratio also! I will say this.. The Sierra visor Will Catch Wind and BADLY! Enough to bobble your head.. The EXO vents the air/wind away/through the visor better, so no high speed head bobbles.. The Sierra is a bit more comfortable [for Me anyways] but I LOVE the modular front and the dual exterior/interior shields on the EXO. My biggest and only gripe w/ the EXO is that it's a bit of a pain to install 'extras'. "Extras" in my case - Gopro w/ Audio adapter & Mic [Due to the flippable front/chin section] [I almost grabbed another EXO yesterday - just a different color - And probably Still Will] Great review as always dude!! Sam - PS: Additional info - Since it was brought up in the video: I'm about 6ft tall, and used these helmets w/ 3 bike setups: Yamaha TW200 Yamaha WR250R Honda NC700X The Yamahas really don't have much if anything as far as a front fairing.. The Honda has the OEM windscreen + a clip-on added to the top.. [No Buffeting when sitting] **I do a Lot of stand-up-riding though, so my rambling was based on that.. One last thing - More of a heads up: The Scorpions are said to run a bit [too] narrow. [If/when that's the case, you'll probably want to go with the next size up from normal] As someone w/ a narrow/thin head, I went w/ my usual size, and it fit tight/perfectly.. Tight - as in the Cheek-Pads. But they'll mush in, and eventually form, for flawless fit.

6' 1" and 250 lbs (34 in inseam), riding a T7 with the taller wind screen from Rally Raid (huge improvement in wind noise)! Helmet is a modular style, HJC in size L. Snug, but well fitting helmet with a drop-down sun screen. Two complaints, sizing charts are not even close, need to go up at least one size, if not two. Second is that the cheek pieces are too snug even with the proper head size. There again, need cheek pieces from helmets two sizes up, and I do not have over-sized cheeks! This helmet is a great budget option....would benefit from the addition of a sun visor! Great video, team!

I went with the Klim Krios Pro ADV helmet . Could not be more satisfied . Fits a dream and my noggin is a 2XL . One issue that I knew was there but it didn't bother me until this late winter was that the visor didn't close all the way . There's a quarter inch gap and some water got in on a foggy drizzly day and drops went in my eye . I was dumbfounded , had been in rain a few times and nothing happened then ? Called Klim and they emailed me an easy adjustment that I can do . Have a Tenere 700 and with the stock windscreen I was getting buffeting and too much noise above 40mph . I have a long torso and shorter legs for being 6' . Had to have the bike lowered but when I got the Motoz Tractionator ADV tires they brought the bike back up that 3/4" . Really like those tires just need more dirt time and sure could use a training course or 2 . I changed the stock windscreen to a Touratech tall windscreen that adds 4" to the height and that stopped the buffeting but I will still use the ear plugs . If anyone goes with that Touratech tall windscreen just be ready to be very impatient at the least or furious that it's such a bitch getting that clear hard rubbery bead liner thing on the edge of the windscreen . That took me 40 minutes and my thumb and index finger hated it , 20 minutes in they were numb . That dang thing better stay on . I hope to never need the impact protection it helps to provide . Right now I am kinda dreading the install of the Cyclops Aurora kit I got for the Tenere . Just don't like the idea of piercing any wire on my one and only bike and I can't seem to find the install video that I know I watched a few months ago . Can't wait to have those extra lights on and the fact that they turn with the forks is mandatory for any bike a own , have to be able to see what's coming before I get there us anything to improve safety is fine by me .

Rocky Mountain ATV/MC has Thumper Jockey pod lights and I had them on my DR650 , indispensable an absolute must for the pos headlight on that bike . Wondering if I should have just got another set of those and just made or buy some bracket for those instead . Those are super easy to install and they are great at lighting up the road or trail . Once I take a look at the instructions for those Cyclops Aurora lights I will do my best at not screwing up , lol .

Helmet: Shoei Hornet X2 Medium (w/ cheap foam earplugs) Bike: Yamaha T7 (SC Low Comfort seat w/ OEM screen) Height: 5'9" Weight: 155lbs Inseam: 28ish" I just returned from a trip from MO to NC and I had to remove my peak after the first 4 hours on the way out due to taking roads that were 70MPH speed limit. I own my Bell MX-9 ADV MIPS S size, It blocks most of the noise either from the machine (KTM DUKE 390cc 2014 model) and the surrounding noise from cars passing by, it’s pretty good I can say, and the best thing is value for money 152.66£ including the shopping fee).

Great video as always. My favorite KZbin channel! I use a Caberg Tourmax on a Royal Enfield Himalayan, standard windscreen with an aftermarket extension. What I love in this helmet: it’s modular, dark shield inside activated with either hand (the switch is on top), fresh. It’s the best rated modular helmet in Sharp test, including the resistance to open in case of a crash. It’s cheaper than most of the helmets you show there, and already includes a Pinlock from factory. The only drawback is it’s noisier than no modular helmets, but I use earplugs or IEM Shure SE215 wired phones to my gps (hate to charge more things) so when using any of them noise is not a problem. Safety, features, comfort! You should check it out. Best regards

Aprilia Tuareg 660, 5’10”, 32” inseam. Helmets: Bell MX9 - love the look, quality for the price, speaker pockets are too shallow, noisy, can’t close vents; Scorpion AT950 - love the modular feature, a little heavy, speaker pockets are too shallow, average noise, good ventilation; my Tuareg provides good wind coverage, but a highway speeds I can get buffeting around the top and sides of my helmet. Added a height adjustable clip on visor and it solved my problem. I think all ADV bikes should come with adjustable height windscreens.

I always wear a large Shoei helmet. They just fit me like glove. Decades ago as pro Flat Tracker I wore Bell Star helmets. A slogan that Bell coined, “If you have $10 head wear and $10 helmet, otherwise wear a Bell”. That Philosophy has driven to always wear darn good helmets. I wear the Hornet X2 sitting on a Triumph Tiger 1200 with stock windshield.

I have the Shoei Hornet in a large, and ride a 2020 Africa Twin AS. I have the same thought about Shoei, that helmet just fits perfect very little wind noise. And with the way they designed it to flow wind it never jerks my head around even on really windy days. I have a Shoei dirt bike helmet also there just the best in my book. I did try the Bell when I first got my ATAS and it fit nice but the liner wore out pretty fast and the vents rattled and was super loud! the Face shield never really sealed up very well ether.

I’m 6’4” tall, more torso than legs. Ride a KLR 650 with a V Stream aftermarket windshield, also a Super Tenere with a Puig aftermarket windshield. Recently purchased the EXO AT950. Previous helmets have all been Shoei, as Eric says “they just fit”. Found the AT950 not to be my head shape size, which is round oval. Helmet is more of an oval, or so it seems to me. Shoei size for me is XL. Bought the AT950 in an XL as well. Experienced pressure points on the forehead and at back of head. While helmet has nice features I found the drop down sun visor optics to be less than optimal. Overall a good helmet for the price, just not a good fit for me.

I've been using the Bell for a little over a year now (bought it at the same time I bought my XR650L). Outside of the cheek pads being installed backwards from the factory, it has been a trouble free helmet. I can verify the chart's claim that the Bell is noisy. After using a Shoei GT Air for nearly five years, putting the MX-9 Adventure on was a shock in noise level! The peak does catch the air when turning my head to check the blind spot before changing lanes (above 45-50mph), but no issues at about 20 degrees left or right of center at highway speeds. Low speed airflow is very good; great when it is warm outside, not so great when the air is cold! I have worn it for 6-8 hour days, five days in a row (Mid-Atlantic BDR) and not had any comfort problems (after fixing the previously mentioned cheek pad issue). The XR650L has been modified to be a long distance adventurer (big gas tank, luggage racks), but still has the stock headlight shroud. Bike has a XR's Only pipe, re-jetted carb, foam air filter, and smog block-off. I always wear ear plugs. 5'11", 32" inseam.

What's wrong with that besides no beak? Do adventure lightweights really need an adventure-specific helmet if they have a full-faced, modular conventional helmet?

I have been using Scorpion ADX-1 (that's how the AT-950 is called in Europe) for over 2 years now. One of the chin bar pins got loose, so the flip-up chin bar is not closing as securely as it was brand new. Chin bar around the puller to flip the chin up is cracking. Overall for me helmet is comfortable, has speaker cut-outs, can mount intercom systems no problem, but the built quality could be better.

I have the EXO AT950 and yes, I chose it for the ideal price and being a modular type, since I wear eye glasses now as I don’t need to take off my glasses to remove the helmet. Also as you said it’s easier to talk to people when they see your face and eat/drink with the helmet on. My first modular was a Nolan (N92?) A nice helmet with great aerodynamics and lightweight was the LS2 pioneer but it had the fixed chin bar. Modulates also tend to be more roundish and so with its face. shield which likes to accumulate the rain in your vision plain, unlike the LS2 (or other fixed chin bar) helmets which have sharper ‘leading edge’ The EXO AT950 I have has a problem securing/locking due to a pin that works lose, apparently occurs with others who have the EXO (from talking to them) I am 5’10” with a 32 inseam and regular torso to leg distribution. I ride an 2018 Africa Twin now with great weather protection but had a Husky TR650 strada and a KTM 640 adventure which I gave up on when I turned 60 (lookin for comfort) due to the lack of weather (windshield) protection. So I don’t know about buffeting differences as my previous bikes had zero protection. First full face helmet was a Bell Star and a Simpson for MX/trail riding (80’s-90’s)

After testing quite a lot of different dual sport helmets I ended up with the Scorpion ADX-1 (European version of EXO-AT950) because it had the sun visor which was a NEED to have for me. At the time I had a KTM 690 - the main noise on this bike was from the exhaust and air filter going right up into the helmet. This year I bought a Yamaha Tenere 700 on this bike when i do more than 70-80kph (~45mph) I get buffeting behind the windscreen - about same noise as in the lousiest commercial airplane on the worst spot you can imagine. I bought the windscreen adjuster kit but it makes it worse so I went ahead and removed windscreen and after that it's great riding. Also on extra feature which you did not mention is that the Scorpion helmet comes with a kit to remove what you call visor and make it into a street helmet... at least in the European version. I'm about 182 cm and 32" inseam.

I have the Klim Krios, considering upgrading to the pro. I have a 2020 Africa Twin Adv Sports, and I’m 6’3. The stock windshield on my Africa twin in the high position (which is where I have it on the highway at higher speeds) perfectly shoots the wind over the visor of my Klim helmet! In the low position I get some buffeting but I usually only have it low when I’m just cruising around town or off-road

Previously rode with a Scorpion for 1 year and upgraded to a KLIM Krios (non- pro version) carbon. The weight saving is amazing in the KLIM and love the fit and feel of the helmet. After 3 years of wearing, I cannot find a downside to the helmet. The ventilation is excellent, my neck doesn't get fatigued after long rides do to the light weight of the helmet. The Scorpion was a tad on the heavy side and received vibration at high speeds.

Three years now with a krios pro, I love it despite it being a tad narrow front to back on the fitment. Wind noise is an issue with all helmets but I mitigate that with ear plug style wired ear buds that connect me to a Cardo coms system allowing me to listen to music and chat on group rides with others. 100% would buy again. Love the scorpion 950s too. Use them at work.

Excellent video, as always. A couple of other helmets I'd like to see reviewed are the Icon Airflite Jewel with MIPS and the LS2 Explorer Carbon. The Airflite Jewel has MIPS, a detachable peak, and internal flip-down sunshade. The only negative is that you can use the windscreen OR the peak, but not at the same time. The LS2 Explorer Carbon has a quick-release chin strap, an internal flip-down sunshade, and a pin-lock windscreen. I think both of these helmets offer a lot of value.

My first Modular Helmet was A Shark EVO 1-2. When a pickup truck hit me at around 40 mph and as I was thrown off the bike my head hit the pavment bouncing I decided to retire it and bought Scorpion EXO-AT950 (I bought it around 3 years ago). Both the those helmets were really too heavy in that they gave me neck pain if not the same day of riding definitly extreme neck pain the next day. Recently I bought two new helmets, the Aria XD4 and the AGV Sport Modular Helmet. Not sure which one I prefer yet since it has been cold, like mostly 20-35 Degrees +/-, where I live, so not done any riding much yet with those two helmets Though those two helmets fit me like a glove and are light enough to not cause me any neck pain (as of yet). The Arai does not have an interior drop down/up sun shade (kinda of disappointed that the feature is not inside the Arai, but the AVG does have it but no Sun visor sigh ...). The Klim Krios Pro has caught my interest due to its light weight claim and it is modular with a transitional face shield. So it might be the next helmet I will purchase. just saying
