By far the best and most comprehensive review of this bench power supply. Thank you for making these video’s!

Your video helped me solve an earth leakage problem on my newly assembled RD6066. My casing also read 64 volts caused by one the screws holding the power supply in position. In fact the exact screw position. Many thanks

Just to clarify for those who consider buying the RD6006: The RD6006 and the case are made by Riden (aka RD Tech aka Ruiden). Riden doesn’t sell power supplies. They must be bought separately from a manufacturer of your own choosing. Riden recommends a few.

Fantastic video, build the same units, used MeanWell power supplies, and had the same screw issues, worked out well in the end - I found the leading 0 before the F can be ommited

Has you tested this power supply with very low currents ? such as small electronic circuits. How accurate is the current measurement in the 0 to 10 mA range ? I have a RockSeed RS305P and the current does not register until 8mA, it could be a fault or maybe the current measurement is just inaccurate, it measures correctly with a multimeter so I dont see why power supply should not be able to manage it. Thinking of returning the RS305P to Amazon and getting a Riden unit instead.

Would connecting case to each other decrease the noise? Very nicely done testing of it, thanks very much.

My RD6006 seems to be working as expected with an exception, the wifi. The wifi card is installed and it blink twice in rapid succession once the unit is powered on. I then load the phone app. select the option "Network Distribution", press the Initialization button; and after all of that the RD6006's screen show the same ip address as the one shown in the phone. Subsequently, I select the checkbox "Device display Server IP" on my the phone's app and click on the button "Confirm". A new windows pops up on my phone asking to wait, after a while a news message window appears saying that "The distribution network failed...". All along in the RD6006, besides the IP address showing on, nothing else happens (it is stuck with "Connecting wifi...")

Thkxs for such a comprehensive and clear review. However i have one remark.. on 12:58/38:38 you start talking about a potential problem with the output staying on when selecting another M setting. While showing this effect you actually don't change the memory setting but you store the current setting (twice). So the behauviour of the supply looks to me as harmless. Could you do repeat this part of your review while actually choosing another M setting ? Looking very much forward to your response. Thkxs again.

As I show in this and other videos the supply can be set to turn on the output when a memory is selected. It does not matter which memory you select (select and Not store). The output will also stay on if it is already on. This can be changed in the menu But the warning can also be turned off. This means that it is possible to set up the supply to change from (for exmple) 5V @ 0.1A to 60V @ 6A with just 2 key preses and no warning. This also changes the OVP and OCP at the same time. Some people like this feature but my point is that it needs to be known about as the menu does not make the settings clear and in my opinion (only my opinion) this leaves the supply in a dangerous state.

Can you spin off that GOD AWEFUL and misleading GREEN banana plug or is it locked to the post? I have some replacement ones that look nearly identical and would want to make it red or yellow, just so I don't mistakenly plug in a jumper thinking it is mains ground. Good lord. On that note, has anyone attempted to plumb a true mains earth ground connector into this to make it not a floating output if you so choose (just via a patch cable on some usages)?
@JerryWalker001
@JerryWalker001 4 жыл бұрын
No its captive. I know exactly what you mean and I totally agree. The designers tried to include a function that is not really needed (as it does not have the required capabilities). A true ground terminal would have been better. It would be fairly easy to turn it into a ground reference connector, see my tear down video.

@@JerryWalker001 Thanks...yes, I've seen that, and was thinking similar. I would like to rather than discard the BATT charger and rip all that circuitry off, just provide a nice point for earth mains true green output. Fundamentally, there is no good reason to have to even bring earth mains into the front panel, since it is just to external patch it into referencing for the floating outputs (if I bought two of these, I can easily make a +/-30v supply with the common node between, but they are technically still "floating" relative to earth ground and I would like to add that in). It is simply baffling that they could have made such a "good" supply with very good specs, and had the outputs fully floating/issolated, and NOT added in a way for earth mains. Likely because it isn't / shouldn't be a part of the control panel design, and really just needs a nice easy / accessible terminal output on the front of the case somehow, or just a blind pass through of a true green earth mains on the front of the panel would have been ideal (and quickly made them realize they need to change the color on the BATT terminal to yellow, red or orange or something other than black/green).

@Jerry Walker Hi, I have assembled the new Riden 6006P with the s4000-65 power supply like you. I've measured V+ and V- output of the switching supply and surprisingly discovered that V+ is connected to Earth and V- is at -65V! (I had no screws between case and switching supply during those measurements). Do you think I missed something?
@davideiotti9725
@davideiotti9725 2 жыл бұрын
Just solved it... the problem was a component in contact with the case. It was wrogly tightened inside the power supply!

I’m lost. Where does the mains earth connector go? If the case was hot, why didn’t circuit protection trip? Does this thing actually float the metal case work? If so, it’s non-compliant in the US. At least for the insurance on our shop, that means our coverage is shot.
@JerryWalker001
@JerryWalker001 3 жыл бұрын
The short was from the DC rail to ground so this would not trip the mains protection unless the current flowed from one of the mains lines to ground. The DC supply is isolated from the mains input. However current will of course flow if the DC rail is shorted. The metal case is grounded.

13:00 - saving value to memory isn't that dangerous when output stays on.
@JerryWalker001
@JerryWalker001 4 жыл бұрын
True, but having the output stay on when selecting a different memory can be a problem. Accidentally selecting a memory with 60V instead of 6V can really ruin your day.

You show save there but talk about reading :) MEM + 8 = [Store current setting data] pop up I got your point only after watching part 3.
@JerryWalker001
@JerryWalker001 4 жыл бұрын
The danger is if you acidentally select a memory with the wrong voltage. In the video I show that the 'warning' can be turned off and so a memory can be selected without any warning. This means that the supply can be configured to allow selection of a memory setting which may cause damage to your circuit because you would only see the selected voltage 'After' it had been selected (and destroyed your circuit). If the output turned off when a new memory was selected then you would 'see' the new setting before it was applied to your circuit. Sorry for any confusion.
@techstuffguy8230
@techstuffguy8230 4 жыл бұрын
This is true but I was thinking here why you don't show at 13:00 what happens when you select that memory with dangerous settings. You show store function. MEM + 8 = Store... and talk about read. You overwrite your M8... M7 dangerous settings with current one in use at this point. There is no reading action and things were bit unclear to understand. SHIFT + 8 was for reading settings from memory M8, right?

I have just posted a new video which should clarify my point. The initial testing which I edited into the videos took almost 7 hours and the video was a 'summary'. I discussed the 'danger' separately and not during the memory save part of the video but hopefully the new video will clarify it. Thanks for the comment, it is useful to get feedback when something is unclear as trying to keep the videos to a reasonable length can mean that some points are glossed over.

(It is not my place to advertise for other people and I do not have permission to use other peoples names. This often results in community strikes and it has nothing to do with respect. There are many sellers for these items as I clearly stated in the videos if anyone is interested in getting one for themselves.)
