Recent acts of violence on public transit have riders concerned over their safety

This incident is a thing that should be taken seriously and to make it safe for everyone who rides the muni is the responsibility of the mayor and the board to put in place a policy for things like this.. This is why I haven’t taken the muni anywhere at all.

I do not feel safe on MUNI or BART. I do not feel safe in SF in general. I think the problem is multi-faceted, poverty, lack of parental guidance, bad schools, permissive society.

The reality is that we have been neglecting public safety for a very long time now. Originally the solution was for the whites to just move to the suburbs and drive everywhere. If you avoid most human contact, you can't be victimized as easily. The black population, at least the poorer part, was just left behind at the mercy of the local gangs. If you were caught in a dicey situation it was your own problem for being in an "inner city neighborhood" in the first place. But since we refused to build any housing in the safer neighborhoods and we ran out of commute-distance suburban land (su-2 hours in commute traffic), more and more people now live in the city. We just need to start dealing with the public safety situation that we started neglecting back in the 60s and 70s. We need European-style on-foot police patrols. We need more security guards and more cameras. We need more rapid response teams.

I don’t feel safe riding on Muni. This is why I rather work at home instead of going into the office. I hate riding muni With homeless and rowdy kids. No more respect to each other anymore. I don’t see young people give up their seats for seniors anymore instead me a senior give up my seat for people who are more mature than me.

Some Muni routes and San Francisco neighborhoods are more dangerous than others. But yeah, random acts of violence can happen anywhere. Definitely stay on your toes when riding Muni and BART!

Growing problem? I grew up in East Oakland in the 80s. This stuff was happening back THEN. Go back and see the old video news reports from those days. In high school I personally witnessed a few fights (among teenage boys) onboard the AC Transit buses I rode each day.

There should be more cops riding MUNI along with the Fare Inspectors on a regular basis. It's been done before, but sparingly. There also should be more cops walking the beat.
