Curious, why negative on track use with an 800SS? Air cooled, yes, but for at least early track learning, I've heard they are great platforms. Not going to hold off any modern 600's on the straight, but if bike track days are anything like good car HPDE environments, on the straight, we point by the lower-powered cars that we've been holding up on the rest of the course..

Pretty much everything about the 800ss sucks. It rides like an old 996m. The suspension sucks. The seating and the bars suck. Then the engine makes no power. An SV650S is a better bike. The older 900ss was a much better bike.

The reason Ducati’s can get away with car oil is because of the dry clutch setup. Most bikes have wet clutches, as a result some of the oil additives in car oil deteriorate wet clutches. So most motorcycles can’t do car oil, Ducati’s can (if it’s a dry clutch)

RRRRRRRRRRRR... Wrong answer! Ducati 800ss has a wet clutch, just like all modern Ducati's.

@@RideWNC oh shit! I didn’t know that! Just got my first one (900ss) and I heard they were all dry clutches. Thank you for the heads up!

Nice video, Mike. I just dragged (literally) my 2008 Ducati Multistrada 1100S out of my garage for the first time in 6+ years and I'm going to attempt to do an oil change myself before attempting to start it. I bought some Mobil 1 15W50 synthetic oil for it...do you think that will be OK? There was some untreated gas left in the tank 6 years ago when it was put in the garage and I haven't checked the tank yet, but I'm assuming it has all evaporated (probably leaving "crap" behind?) How do you think I should deal with that? Thanks.

If the fuel pump and filter are in the tank, take it out and clean up everything.

2,9l after having drained all the oil well with the change and running the engine for 5 minutes. Manual says 3.3. How much did you fill?
@RideWNC2 жыл бұрын
2.9 is before starting it. Once it runs for five minutes and sits for fifteen minutes, you will need more to bring the level to the top line.

@@RideWNC I used 2.95l after driving a few kilometers and the door is totally full when the bike is upright. Thanks for the answer and the video was very useful to me.

I have an s2r1000 and it’s slightly leaking from the gauze filter area is there an o ring in there by chance?

Figures... I did not do a video for the S2R and I just don't want to walk down to the shop to look at one. If it is on the side of the engine, there is not. The plug kind of seals to the end of the filter. You can loosen the filter a little. If is is under the engine and you remove four hex bolts and a square cover, there is not and it gets a very light coat of black RVT around the edge of the cover at install.

I just looked at my S2R. My filter is behind the oil pressure switch. There is a crush washer. If yours is the same, you might get lucky by just tightening the cap.

So you changed the oil and what else did you drain?
@RideWNC4 жыл бұрын
Gause filter. Most Ducati's have two filters. Oil Filter to clean the oil and the gause filter to catch all of the metal chunks.

Ducati filter, might be the original if it's low miles.....................
