Don't even bother buying this game physical, wait for the Ultimate Edition to go on sale on the Playstation Store. Either way, I would recommend the PSP game over this one since it has a lot more content, but if you've already played that one then this is a pretty fun game that's worth your time.

It is a sad excuse for a game, ESPECIALLY given the number of tracks and cars available, even after purchasing DLC. Alas, I was stupid enough to listen to your recommendation "as a long-time fan of the series." I have nothing but scorn for this game. It runs like crap, the cars all handling the same is thoroughly disappointing, and the lack of tracks leaves a veteran of the series feeling unfulfilled. The last game [Unbounded was NOT a RR game!], on the PSP, had a ton of tracks, boatloads of cars that all felt different, with differing power levels and handling characteristics, and an amazing music selection. Also [this is purely Ridge Racer elitism], why on earth would you set your cars to MILD? Ick! That almost defeats the purpose of playing Ridge Racer. [Edit: I acknowledge that the prior two sentences are a "gatekeepy," and I apologize for that] I have no ill will toward you [as if it matters, since I'm just some douche commenting on a KZbin video, lol], and still liked the video, but I feel that you should play the PSP games [especially the second, released only in Japan and Europe], then come back to this game and give it a more informed review. This game has awesome presentation I bought it on release day physical. I bought all dlc and I belive the songs are free. You can always bump your own song tracks if you download them on your vita. I go back and forth between this and psp's version whenever I have free time. I'm going to try and get a copy for 3ds it should be good I hope. The frame rate did have me put the vita version down but as I played and almost completed psp's version I've kinda gotten over it. Wish sega released daytona USA or sega rally championship 95' on vita one day. Awesome review.

Yeah, I think this game gets a bad rep because it hardly came with any content upon released but other than that, if you have the complete version of the game with the dlc, it's a solid ridge racer game. I agree with you on the frame rate. It wasn't terrible but definitely could've been better.

RIIIIIIIIIIDGE RACER! Sorry, I mean HELLO! I've recently become aware of Ridge Racer 2 being available on the PS5 and have been thinking of getting it, but then learnt that it's a port of the PSP game, so then I thought that it might be better to get it on my PSVITA💕🤗😂 which I still love but have been neglecting. But then I saw that the PSP game is not available on the Vita, but this one is, and there's the Ultimate Edition now which includes all the DLC at 19.99. So now I'm torn between either getting RR2 on the PS5 or Ridge Racer Ultimate on the Vita. My only previous experience with Ridge Racer is Ridge Racer 3D on the 3DS, and that might be my favourite racing game of all time because it's such an enjoyably arcadey experience of the kind they don't make any more. I've been looking at videos of RR2 and it seems kind of drab compared to how vibrant and exciting RRU on the Vita looks, yet the consensus seems to be that RR2 is the better game. But I'm thinking that Ridge Racer on my Vita might be more fun than playing a PSP game blown up to 4K on my PS5. I really don't want to be a mug by buying both, so which would you recommend I go for?

I actually have the perfect recommendation. Have you played the first Ridge Racer that was released on PSP? Well, you can download that on the vita and play it on there. The game looks and plays great on the vita screen. That way you won't have a blown up image on a 4k screen and you still can enjoy great gameplay on the small handheld screen.

I doubt you can download anything for the game now. I wish they made a new Ridge Racer in the same way as the previous games like Ridge Racer 7 or the PSP versions, but for PS4/5 and even the Switch. That would be awesome.

Yeah, although I feel like Ridge Racer 8 would be best managed if they focused on developing it only for PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, and then the Switch could get a remaster of a previous game, let's say Ridge Racer 7 for this case. That way, Bandai Namco Studios is given the opportunity to make the new entry be as visually impressive as possible while also keeping a stable 60 frames per second without having to worry about porting it to a much less powerful console, which would likely result in a buggy and inconsistent mess on the Switch. Meanwhile, Switch owners are given one of the most content-rich entries in the series at their fingertips with improved visuals, (possibly) brand new in-game content, and the ability to play the game on the go, along with online multiplayer between both Switch players and veterans who are still playing on the PS3. Everyone wins!

I could always use a bigger memory card but I already have a 32 and a 16 but not sure of the 64, because of how expensive they are and lots of reports of them not lasting as long as the lesser memory cards, I am a little leery. RR Vita can be really something but you can see they had like 6 months to put it out, same with Vitas CoD. RR 3DS - yes it got content but the gameplay is much, much worse than RR Vita. In RR 3DS there is the worst AI catch-up I´ve ever seen in a racing game. Pass the leading opponent "too soon" and watch the ride - he´ll get sudden giga-ultra turbo to catch you in 2 seconds since your overtake and if AI hits your back (or you block his overtake) you´ll be flying forward with it with speed exceeding anything you can do with any nitrous. This just won´t happen in RR Vita, if you´re good, you are good.

Yeah I notice a lot of racing games that have rubber banding issue where the guys in the back are always able to catch up no matter no well you drive. I think RR on the psp was the best.

I'm giving my 2 cents here. PSP's Ridge Racer 1 and 2 are no different actually. I don't get how content is the content since we are getting 9 normal cars and a few special cars, and each of the 9 cars are divided into 3 levels, and 2 versions. I mean, 3 cars of 3 levels, ie. the amount of NOS in each different car (really, that's the so-called content?), and normal version and race version, are not going to do any good, but if Namco wants to add ultimate charge or at least different models instead of doing useless NOS upgrades to the cars in the same class, I'd be much obliged to take it. PSP's Ridge Racer 2 is basically the first one with added tracks only, and a few more special cars, that's it. Namco could actually just make the second one as the first and the second one being a new concept. Also, if some complain about the game being sold as a demo for a high price and DLC and all sorts, then why would they be able to buy other games at around the same price? Yeah, I do agree that a demo with DLC is going to mess up the gaming experience, but I'm sure that there are some other games which are more expensive than this sum-up. If people are able to buy a PS3 or PS4 game at around 70 USD, then they shouldn't complain about this. Take another irrelevant example, iPhone is way more expensive, but somehow it can be purchased at its price tag. But this game? Plus the DLC? All the hassle? Come on man, iPhone or Ridge Racer Vita + DLC, which is cheaper? Get the point? I got tired of playing PSP Ridge Racer series simply because it wasn't challenging. I do like the Opus series but what's the point if Opus races are not in quick races? It would be much fun if we can select this mode and choose race tracks to our liking, but no. Unless some genius has the cwcheat to tweak the AI to Opus difficulty, else it gets boring after a long time.

Ridge Racer 2 PSP isn't challenging as the old ones. A solid downpoint. Drifting is ultra easy too, you slide during the entire race. But is a waaaaay better experience than the Vita one.

Ridge Racer PSP plays fine, especially when RR Slipstream is only playable on Android 6 highest, and mine is 8.1 Oreo, no chance, pretty sad, but like I said, the cars are just 9 models with two versions. FIrst time I unlocked a Class 4 car, I was pretty excited to see what kind of model I would get, and I got a modified Kamata Fiera (bummer). Then the 6 empty blocks which need unlocking further down the career mode? An upgraded version of the Fiera, with more NOS amount (God why). Content aside, I do have to agree that PSP Ridge Racer plays better than the Vita one. However, since I'm a long time Ridge Racer fan, and I like Ridge Racer 7 a lot, even play it via RPCS3 emulator on my lappie, I'm going to get a Vita next Monday from my friend as a second-hand sale. First thing? RR Vita of course, since it shares some similarities with RR7, and I'm not going to bring my lappie everywhere just to enjoy RR, that's energy-breaking.

@@SuperJumpReviews The graphics on that game impress me to this day (other than the resolution). The game felt like something out of this world when i played it first. The atmosphere and everything. Playing the World Tour while in the airport omg it was beautiful. In fact the psp, ps2 and even the vita were just so ahead of their time. Shame that Sony is more profit oriented now than back in the day..

I did like how detailed your video was on it, unfortunately, since most of the game is payed dlc, it turned me away from it. @@SuperJumpReviews So I got it, played 2 races. Its fun. I like the unique sorta charm it has to it that makes it different from other games I have played. It reminds me of arcade machine racers and I quite enjoy that.

The DLC is the last of the game’s problems, the use of levelling and upgrades is honestly abhorrent in an arcade racer like this, since levels are tied to car speed. A skilled player won’t stand a chance against an unskilled player who is of a higher level, turning the game into a massive grind until you’re at a high enough level to actually compete with other players. It’s not really a solid arcade racing game because of the terrible balancing…but it also doesn’t help either how half of the six DLC courses are ports from Ridge Racer 3DS with graphical downgrades. Ocean Front Cruiseway is missing reflections in the tunnel, the water you splash through in the canyon level has been removed entirely. RR Vita doesn’t come close to the best games in the series, let alone the two PSP games. One of the biggest disappointments of 2011, and the Vita. It could have been so much more.

I just came here out of nostalgia to remind myself why I hated the Vita version so much. The PSP version was my first ever game for that device and I absolutely loved it, to the point that it’s in my top 5 ever games. Between the 10,000 pieces of DLC that had to be individually downloaded and the pervy lady character lying down across the main menu, the Vita release was terrible. 🤢

Cellius flopped so hard with this, and rightfully so. The only thing they ever developed was this game, and fake arcade game screenshot collections of 3 games (which never came out/most likely fake screens). They even betrayed their own mission statement which was to show off the power of "The Cell" processor on the Playstation 3, yet they only produced a single PS VITA game which doesn't even have a "Cell" processor.

Hm...Not sure if it's 100 dollars I bought the gold pass and that was like20-30 I think so probably it's closer to 50 dollars. But yeah still expensive. My advice just buy the psp version and play it on the vita.
