Thats because back in the day you were probably watching it on an old CRT box tv with a smaller screen. In that case your memory is actually mostly correct it looks alot clearer on a CRT, all these games look like crap on modern LCD tvs/monitors. If you still have a ps1 and your old tv give it a try you'll be quite amazed how clear it looks (for an older game anyway)

@@EggiTheShadow Even modern games can look great on old high-end CRTs. DFretro did a video a while back about playing Control on an old CRT but disabling pretty much all the post-processing, and turning down the resolution and it looked great and had the bonus of a steady high framerate.

After all these years and watching this intro countless times I've finally understood it. Basically the intro shows the events that transpired immediately before you, the user, gets in there. In other words, it shows everyone's commute to work, as in the starter chick broke her heels on the way to work and caught a ride from a racer who was also going to the same place as a race driver.

It's the camera movement - it looks like someone is struggling to keep the car in shot. Took a long time for people to start treating CGI viewports as if they were real cameras operated by real people (who aren't perfect) and the difference it makes is... Well, this.

I hope Namco still have the original software and assets for this render. I don't know what they actually rendered it on and It would be entirely pointless but I would cram the render through a modern PC in 4K resolution and then post the video up. Would be fantastic to have a super high quality one. Actually if they had a high quality version they should put it as a theme/live background for PS4 or something. I would pay for it, instantly.....
