I've been searching for 8 years...finally I was reunited with this game!
So this time, I play "Ridge Racer V: Arcade Battle"!
The arcade version of "Ridge Racer V", and it's a very Very VERY rare racing game!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In this video, I chose Rivelta Solare. An Hard-level, Drift-type car.
Also my favorite car in PS2 version :)
But I was disappointed, because lose a lot of speed while drifting...
And also control is more difficult than PS2 version. So I've made a lot of mistakes...
- This is not an Emulator. It's actual one! -

Iirc the PS2 Ridge Racer V did not support a steering wheel... I could be wrong but that kind of played a role in lower sales of RRV in relative terms compared to previous PS1 Ridge Racer games.

Looks like a few things were tweaked from RRV. Like, its harder to break your momentum if you accidentally hit a wall.

Many people were disappointed when Namco replaced Reiko with Ai Fukami but anyways the game is fun and the graphics look good.
@apollosungod2819
@apollosungod2819 14 күн бұрын
Although some people were disappointed, that didn't really matter because Reiko was just to show the potential of real time CGi rendering using Sony PS2 hardware as a tech demo... the other girl made more sense for RRV and technically the real issue was the lack of steering wheel play and how most PS1 gamers and Ridge Racer players were used to the Dual Shock pad instead of trying to get the Namco pad or a steering wheel because this is the Arcade version where it features a steering wheel with force feedback which makes the cars that seem difficult to control just much easier in relative terms.
@apollosungod2819
@apollosungod2819 14 күн бұрын
The other issue was that eventually a PS2 designed RR VI could have been made for PS2 and the arcade version of PS2 hardware (which is the same but obviously for business use so storage is different) but iirc RRV had some low sales relative to the massive first year PS2 sales purchased by mostly hardcore PlayStation fans built up over the last five or six years and casuals... The other problem preventing another Ridge Racer sequel on PS2 is that the movie Fast and Furious decided to use "nitrous" in what was essentially a JDM stock or slightly modded import JDM scene that didn't use nitrous at all if some did use it, it was very few for obvious reasons... as usual movie makers love to exaggerate things so they promoted nitrous and this somehow affected racing games minus Gran Turismo which excluded nitrous unless the race allowed it. The final reason for no Ridge Racer sequel on PS2 is Microsoft going around money hatting or trucking 3rd parties in an effort to force multi platform Shenanigans to basically devalue the exclusivity scene that Sega, Nintendo and Sony created... while also holding on to their own exclusives. Basically many games that became genuinely popular word of mouth sellers on old Sega, new Sony, revamped Nintendo were somewhat dimished by Microsoft trying to get most third parties to agree to make multi platform even though traditionally multi platform didn't magically happen unless the console maker really sold a certain number of units by a certain time... Therefore Ridge Racer 7 became the last Namco Arcade racer on PS3 and arcades but fewer of the cabinets reached north America and the game centered on nitrous gameplay mechanics that's very different to core Ridge Racer gameplay as experienced in RRV which is basically the ultimate physics possible for Ridge Racer games.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!!!!!!!!!!!! I simply cannot believe someone actually found this game and played it IRL! I was starting to think the arcade version of RRV was simply a myth....like Bigfoot, or the Lochness monster! It's awesome and crazy that you found this bro! Anyway, since you uploaded this wonderful vid, please allow me to ask a few questions.... 1)I know it's been almost three years since you uploaded this video, so I'm assuming you haven't played the game since then? But....from what you can recall, how was playing the game with a steering wheel? Does the wheel have any force feedback effects? If so, how does the FFB compare to say, Daytona USA, Sega Rally, etc? Does the wheel throw a kick when you hit the other cars or the walls? Does it deliver any type of torque response while drifting or cornering? 2)How many players does the game support in multiplayer? I know for sure it's at least two, but can you connect more than two? Like maybe, up to four, or even six? 3)From what I'm seeing in this video, it appears that this version of the game runs a bit smoother than the PS2 version? I can get the PS2 version to run on my PC via PCSX2 emulator, but for some reason it doesn't look silky smooth. There are some weird framerate issues during gameplay and it seems to be either a native issue with the game itself, or perhaps an emulator issue. Did the arcade version exhibit this at all during your play time? Thanks and take care...you have a LOT of great content on your channel and I just subscribed! :)

Regarding your 3rd point, I’ve been playing RRV on my JP PS2 and it runs at a silky smooth 60fps 99.9% of the time. The only time there’s a frame rate dip is on one track when a helicopter flies overhead and it’s only for like 1/5th of a second.
@isamuu99
@isamuu99 Жыл бұрын
@@datfatpug Thanks for the reply man much appreciated. I have a feeling the emulation in PCSX2 is still suffering from odd frame rate issues. There are times when there appears to drop to around mid 30s to mid 40s fps. It just doesn't look as smooth as I remember it running on the real machine as well as on older versions of pcsx2. Well, at least there is good news...there is someone working on emulation RRV TAB on a differently emulator. Very preliminary but very encouraging :)

There is force feedback and the motor is the same as in the Wangan Midnight cabinet. Regarding multiplayer, I think that only 2 players are supported and that you cannot link up more machines.
