You can only tack the battery if you are in the distance of blue tooth. Now if they really put in tracking then they would have to add wireless or gps or GSM. I really want to know if you can go some where and leave your battery and then try to track it from about a mile away.

A lot of tech and features is a lot to go wrong. RIDGID batteries are covered by the LSA warranty but it can still take about 10 days to get a replacement. "Just because you can do it, doesn't mean you should". Last years L.A. Tech show featured a wi-fi toilet seat, but do I really need to be able to raise and lower my toilet seat with an app when I'm out of the country? The only feature that might be useful is the GPS tracking, especially if I could track my stolen truck if my RIDGID battery is in the truck, but it looks like the tracking is very limited to the bluetooth connection of 30 to 50 feet. Forget the features and lower the price of the batteries.

It’ll tell you where it was last seen, but Home Depot salesman are full of shit telling me I can shut it off and lock it if it gets stolen. You can lock it and make it a brick until you unlock it again, but not once it is out of range. If it’s not in range of Bluetooth, all of this does not work at all. So don’t let Home Depot sales people tell you you can track it down. You cannot track it down.

I just bought an new Octane 9Ah battery marked down from $187.00 to $99.00 at Home Depot. I had no need for another battery but I just couldn't pass this up because it was a 9Ah. It's MASSIVE so that may be why it was on sale. It's way too big to use for most tools simply because it is so big. It will work - it just makes the tool that much heavier. The main reason I bought it was to use with my Ridgid X4 cordless Vac which sucks the juice on a battery. My concern was if it would fit in the compartment. To my delight.... It fits perfectly. So now I am happy I did not pass up that deal. Only bad thing is - the warranty is only a 3 year. HOT TIP: I personally never buy just the batteries because of the warranty. I always buy them in a "tool kit" because then you get LIFETIME warranty on the batteries too. When you purchase only the batteries (by themselves) you only get a 3 year warranty. So unfortunately this will only have the 3 yr warranty. Oh well!
@ToolReviewZone5 жыл бұрын
Yeah it definitely is a larger battery, but works great with the mega max and 7" grinder. Should be good for the new circular saw too I would think. Awesome deal though

@jcfms6 жыл бұрын
Only if it's in the Bluetooth range of your phone.
@scottdrouin93575 жыл бұрын
The tracking is completely useless. You can only track it and lock it when you're connected to it. So once you are further than your Bluetooth range, unless you previously locked your battery, its fair game.
@autonomous445 жыл бұрын
You've got to lock your batteries BEFORE they are stolen. They cannot be tracked down once stolen, and cannot connect to your phone when out of range. They can tell you their last location ONLY! Keep that in mind! So lock it first, you cannot track them down, you cannot lock it, you can only do it BEFORE the theft occurs. Greets bro!

The tracker goes off of the GPS on your phone. Like many trackers, they may have crowd location capability, but those require other people to have the app on in the background. Since there are so many people using other brands tools, the chance of that is pretty slim. It would help identify if you left your tools at a jobsite though. Even if you were able to use it to locate the battery, 99% of police departments wont bother going to retreive it for you because it still requires a warrant and there is too much risk in the unknown. The internal temp and charge count are good to know, but lithium batteries typically have more problems with the electronics that enable them internally than capacity, so I think its better to avoid the Bluetooth system.

First off I own ridgid tools, many of them, great tools, I use them daily as a contractor and they make me money. However the ONLY difference between these new batteries and the regular batteries, is the bluetooth capabilty which is basically a toy, thats it, thats all thats fact a bluetooth app to play with, Inside all these batts octane or not are Samsung cells in there just as the regular, they are not more powerful or somehow magical, they are exactly the same battery, one is a 6 amp hour batt and one is a 5 amp hour batt, only difference ! so please people dont get caught up 9n that part of the hype ! the 5ah batts are just as strong and powerful as these octane batteries ! Any contractor working on the job every day doesnt have time and isnt going to monitor there battery while working on a ladder demoing a roof lol ! I write my initial on my batts by the way, simple..No contractor plays with phone apps while making a living. Just dont get caught up n this, batteries are batteries

Billy Nolan it's not a toy when you can locate your 130 dollar battery from someone who robbed it... Thugs and lazybones been stealing out of hard working people. I know how it feels. I wish my whole Makita set had this kind on tech but oh well

Eden you obviously don't know what this battery does do you? If you're a child I can understand your belief in being able to locate this battery after it's stolen. And I've never seen anyone spend THIS much time just TRYING to tell everyone what this battery is all about.
@davidwatson81426 жыл бұрын
The battery does provide more power for hyper branded tools. Your statement would be correct for standard line of tools.
@diarrheadan80885 жыл бұрын
It depends on the chip that's inside of the tools or batteries. If the chip has an indicator that says I need less power for this and more for that then it'll save you battery life. I do monitor my battery life and make sure my batteries are working properly. The rigid app allows you to see which ones are used too much and how many times they've been charged. All the tool needs is a regulator chip and it'll preform depending on the load. I'm assuming that's what they did with the octane tools.

What in the flying ** does a battery need bluetooth for... Absolutely pointless and a total gimmick imo. And don't tell me it can be used to "track" or prevent theft, because UNLESS it automatically locks itself when disconnected from your phone's bluetooth, it's not going to do jack all to prevent theft. You're talking Bluetooth, not GPS so if someone takes it, unless they are still within shouting distance of you, you won't be tracking anyone down. Don't buy into the extra power nonsense either, it's the same voltage as the non octane batteries so it's up to the tool to draw that power potential, not the battery. It's just a fancy stat tracker, which is actually kind of cool, but still useless and not worth the extra cost.
@autonomous445 жыл бұрын
You wouldn't say that if you had them, these batteries are awesome. Although, it's a preemptive security, as I just commented "You've got to lock your batteries BEFORE they are stolen. They cannot be tracked down once stolen, and cannot connect to your phone when out of range. They can tell you their last location ONLY! Keep that in mind! So lock it first, you cannot track them down, you cannot lock it, you can only do it BEFORE the theft occurs." And yes, they WILL deliver more power when needed WHEN PAIRED WITH OCTANE TOOLS. They will not sag as badly as normal batteries. Cost is not even that different from the other batteries. Always buy as a kit, do not buy the batteries by themselves. Then it's cheaper than single batteries BY A LONG SHOT, and, they are lifetime replacement eligible when registered, which is way easier to do than people online make it sound.
@kameljoe216 жыл бұрын
The only bad thing I see about this is that it is Bluetooth. Limited range. Plus all of those things are just a waste of battery life. I am betting on that your only real usable ah is 5 and not 6 because it would still need to hold a charge for all of those things.
@ToolReviewZone6 жыл бұрын
Hey William, not really. The recip only uses the power from the battery that it needs, so it will reserve a lot off power for only when needed. This alone allows for much longer run times even with the app
