/ @ajrestoration Welcome back ladies and Gentlemen, We have here a rusted pipe cutter made by the company Ridgid. I got this beauty at my favorite place, the metal recycling yard, I saved it...
I hope you enjoy the video.

Some history on the company.
The Ridge Tool Company is an American manufacturing company that makes and distributes hand tools under the Ridgid brand name. The company was founded in 1923 in North Ridgeville, Ohio. In 1943, it relocated to its current location in Elyria, Ohio, and in 1966, it became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Emerson Electric.
Ridgid tools are targeted at the plumbing, pipefitting, construction, and HVAC trades. The brand is best known for its distinctive red pipe wrenches, but the company manufactures over 300 different types of tools. The company also sells power tools, largely made by TTI, and wet/dry vacs, made by parent company Emerson.
Ridgid produced a pinup calendar from 1935 until 2016. Early renditions featured the work of American pin-up artist George Petty. Models that have appeared on the calendar include Raquel Welch and Brooke Burke. #ASMR

I have one sitting in an electrolysis bath. Am afraid to take it out as it will just start to rust again if I don't get all the water out. I liked seeing all the techniques you use that don't involve water.

Very nice restoration. I just picked up two of these exact same RIDGID pipe cutters at an estate sale ($10/each). They are both very dirty & rusty but still function, so, it's time to bring them back to life. BTW, orange is the correct color, NOT red. Once again, nice job. Cheers!

Great video. If you powder coat something and you missed a spot or the powder comes off can you put a little powder and heat it? Can you touch up powder coating?
@garymucher9590
@garymucher9590 2 жыл бұрын
Actually until you bake it, yes, you can spray on more powder. After it is baked and cured, you really need to sand off the area really well before respraying again. But it does also work well.
@AJRestoration
@AJRestoration 2 жыл бұрын
I did try to do touch ups on another project and if you re powder it after it has been cured the second coat leaves a really bad texture. SO its best to sandblast it again and start over. Unless there is a technique I don't know of.

Funny thing, that particular pipe cutter is usually a greyish silver colour. They are sold in stores here. Makes them distinctive from regular other brands which are usually red. Never seen a rigid pipe wrench but they do make one of the best pipe flaring tools. Their ballpoint tool is good but there is a ton of knockoffs of it sadly.

Very nice restoration. A tip for masking for powder coating. Get Kapton tape with silicon adhesive. It's good to at least 500°F. Pricy, though. $36US for 1" x 36yds. And if you get 3M, you help out my town as we make it here in Indiana.
