The one really good aspect of this machine is that the pressure from the tapped line can not thrust the drill rod back out of the machine once penetrated like most tapping machines. It can only be withdrawn by turning the body backwards.

I use this very machine all the time. It has its good points and its bad points. The seals or O rings dont last long and the way it is made lets the chips pile up indie the barrel which messes up the threads on the drill shafts and Im guessing that also is affecting the longevity of the seals. The only way to avoid that would be to have the test port valve open the entire time to flush them out but that isnt always practical.

In what scenarios do you use this ? I work in NYC doing commercial repairs/re-modeling/sprinkler work. The chief engineers of the buildings we service would tell us to get the fuck out if we drill through a live pipe.

this is a two man job.

Yes it is a two man job with this machine even as small as the larger version is. Up in the air on a ladder or lift it is very difficult for one man to drill and support and operate the tapping machine.
