This is indeed how it goes. People don’t usually cheat their way to the top. To get away with cheating, one first has to understand the game intimately. Rather, people get to the top and start cheating to get an edge. People justify it to themselves because they feel “Well I’ve worked hard. I got to where I am through legitimate effort and skill, so I’ve earned this” They feel they are capable of achieving the feat without cheating and cheating is just getting them to their ‘rightful place’ a little faster.

Unfortunately the few successful accusations have self-justified his behavior, continuing this destructive methodology.

@@user-vt4hd8hb4v what do you suggest people do? Seriously. What is something that will prevent cheating in chess? What Kramnik is doing is not preventing cheating. It’s not helping. All he’s doing is asking people silly questions and then not accepting any answers to those questions. For example, “Where are you looking?”. This one is especially silly because Kramnik is on vudeo looking away from his screen during a game! In fact a lot of GM’s glance off into the distance when they’re thinking, even during OTB games! The fact that these GM’s also glance off during online games is not as suspicious as Kramnik makes it out to be. Hell, I glance off into the distance when I’m studying. According to Kramnik this must mean I have an answer key somewhere in the direction I’m looking (even if I get an answer wrong). Other than asking silly questions he post “statistics”. It’s been proven many times by real statisticians that Kramnik doesn’t know what the heck he’s talking about with these “statistics”. Even so these “just asking questions” & posting of “statistics” isn’t doing anything to solve the problem. It’s just making Kramnik look silly. It’s actually hurtful to the situation. Now if anyone has suspicions about a player they’re just being a Kramnik. This means people cannot voice their suspicions without fear of being labeled another Kramnik.

At approximately 26:20 Caruana praises the security measures adopted by the Saint Louis club. However, this same club questioned the reputation of Hans Newman in the match in which this player, playing as black, beat Magnus Carlsen. Carlsen abandoned the tournament like a spoiled child and began to pressure Hans N. to be put in limbo in the chess world. The Saint Louis Club was one of those that adhered to Magnus' wishes and began to ignore Hans N., even though they had nothing concrete against this player, even though their security system never indicated any cheating in that match by Hans N. Definitely a shame that tarnished the history of the Saint Louis Club.

For eg: Nepo is a sore loser and his insinuations against Hikaru/Danya (Nepo and Kramnik)/Gukesh (Nepo and Grischuk) are troubling. for those of you wondering why or if Fabi should be making these comments during a tournament he is currently participating in...usually this is something you would wait to do until the end of the tournament... my two cents is that Fabi still has more long term goals. the U.S. open is one of many many tournaments he will be participating in and therefore has a grasp on not letting the short term drama affect him while keeping focused on the long term. I still think Fabi has his eyes on the greater goal of being world champ... which he knows, at 32 years of age at the time of this video, is a ticking clock in the back of his mind. and that clock is what keeps him focused.

There is a gigantic difference between these two statements: - In 50% of online games there is a cheater on the other side. - 50% of players with an active online chess account have cheated in online chess at least once in their lives. Assuming (unrealistically) that all cheaters only ever cheated once and every person played a total of 1000 games, the difference would be a factor of 1000. For all discussants it is paramount to say exactly what you mean when you talk about these things.

Talking about the "best" method of cheating is a bit pointless, since it is almost impossible to be spotted from the outside by definition. What I did learn from the coverage of other cheating scandals and true crime stories is that cheaters get sucked into their new behavioral pattern. If this cheating case is real, I would assume that Shevchenko cheated many times before with less risk and just got used to a) the success of it and b) not being caught. Like a thief who keeps taking more at higher risks after not being caught - until finally he looks very silly when caught.

Yoo had finished round 5 before the incident, why doesn't that make it in the 2nd half of the tournament?

Seems there is conflicting info, why don't they simply release the surveillance video of Yoo's interactions in the security room. people say he "punched" a woman. in my mind that conjures up a very specific image. but sources such as Fox News say he "pushed" a videographer. there is a huge diff between a punch and a push. and context is needed, like, was he trying to get past people and pushed his way through, or did he lash out with a fisted strike at someone's back. if his chess career hangs in the balance why don't they show the video?
@flipina2 ай бұрын
Possibly because he is a minor. It was a female videographer involved. There are rules in releasing surveillance videos if there is a police investigation too
@michaelblankenau65982 ай бұрын
Perhaps because the legal implications come into play .

It can also be hard to get the video..
@Kasparovwannabe2 ай бұрын
Everyone says he walked up to her and deliberately struck her. Not one person who's seen the video said it was a push. There's no uncertainty. We even have GM's like Levon, who saw the video, saying he's getting off easy because it's just that bad. Even his parents admit the punishment is fair. Like...the police were called, he was charged. Game over. It's now a legal matter involving a minor and the footage isn't going to be given out willy nilly.

Calling Clarissas performance historical and comparing it to Fishers performance is straight up outrageous. It is the women's section which has an average of 2400 rating. A plus score in any open tournament is a better feat than that.

Carissa’s 8/8 is currently a performance rating of over 3100. Obviously it isn’t quite the same as fischer but trying to downplay it is ridiculous. 11/11 would absolutely be historical.

@@evanmuir6586 it's a greet performance but you cannot compare it with open feats as her opponents are literally on an IM level which is nothing compared to GMs or even top GMs. When will you understand that it is all about politics.
