Do I have too many saddle pads? Some would say yes. Well, I'd say no lol. Let me try to justify how many I have and give some sort of perspective since I feel I didn't do a very good job of saying it in the video: I've been collecting pads for actually over 14 years now. I'm an eventer so I must have dressage and jump cut pads. I also have at-home schooling pads, and nice, white show pads. My horses are athletes. I only buy the best quality pads to put on their backs. Believe it or not, saddle pads can make a huge difference in the well being of your horse as well as muscle development. I buy high quality that will last me for multiple years ( case in point- a lot of these are olddd). I also buy pads that are contoured at the top spine and have some sort of wicking material on the underside (I'm not a huge fan of plain cotton pads). But buying high quality pads isn't only about getting the best for my horses; it also brings me joy ( I had a Marie Kondo moment after filming lol). Somedays, a pretty saddle pad sparks joy (yes I said it haha) and makes my day that much brighter! I also ride anywhere from 1-3 horses a day in my saddle pads (the rest of the client horses have their own pads). I will not put a dirty pad on my horse's back so I go though a lot of washing quickly. cleanliness is key to a happy and healthy horse in any aspect of their care. One of the more important things to remember is that you don't need to spend an arm and a leg on good quality saddle pads. I've maybe paid full price and 4 of these pads. Another 6 were gifted to me by friends and family over the years. The rest, I've purchased when on a good sale or better yet, clearance out. I buy when prices are much lower than retail. A lot of my ogilvys are super old too- I believe the regular price of those have gone up quite bit over the past few years. My point is, I don't go out and buy pads because I love them. I will wait until it goes on sale before buying. That may be a month or a year I'd have to wait. And sometimes, I miss out on a cool pad because I waited too long until there were none left and no sale. In regards to Marie Kondo, I now have a pile of 11 saddle pads that are going to soon be washed and sold because they no longer spark joy for me. AKA let me know if you're interested in any of the pads I mentioned may be for sale. The bottom line is this: different things bring joy to different people. I probably will get many comments from people appalled at the sheer amount of pads I have amassed. Saddle pads bring me joy and they have the added bonus of physically benefiting my horses. I won't apologize for that, nor will I stop buying saddle pads. Enjoy this ridiculously long saddle pad video or simply congrats if you've made it this far. Q: What's something that brings you joy?
