You may be asking yourself, what are PRELOADERS?
PRELOADERS:
Subscribers to this channel who are dedicated to being proficient in slow speed motorcycle operation.
What does PRELOAD mean?
PRELOAD:
Engaging the throttle to raise the RPM’s (revolutions per minute) above idle and holding the throttle there, with the clutch pulled in (no power to the rear wheel, “in reserve” “PRELOADED”). This process will make power to the rear wheel available to the rider immediately when the clutch is opened up. There’s no need for the rider to be concerned with twisting the throttle for power because it’s already PRELOADED.

I'm late to the game, but I'm glad to be here now. Fantastic Video Robert! I sent this to my girl while I'm on the clock. She is brand new to bikes and riding & riding two up and she loves it. I just recently made the transition from Super Sport to RGS bagger. I was the boss on my Super Sport and felt comfortable, confident, in control and consistent. When she showed an interest and the excitement of going on a ride I was happy to share my passion with her. So we started off nice and easy around our block and a near by parking lot with her on the back. Till she and I both got a feel and clear communication. Now with the bagger she is sooo ready to ride, but I had to drag the brake till I've had more practice time in the saddle. So this video and your content was found at the perfect time. Keep paying it forward Brother. Each one teach one. To bad we're in So. Cal and so far out to get some practice in with Y'all.

Thanks for the videos, 10 years ago I lost my left leg in a motorcycle wreck that was unavoidable with a car passing another car on a hill and zero room for me to maneuver without going off a embankment. That much said I have difficulty holding the left side when I’m 2 up but I’m smooth enough with the right foot to raise at the same time as my left when the bike moves. And refuse to go 2 up on windy days that could put the wind blowing me to the left. In time I’m sure I can strengthen the left leg enough to easily hold 2 up against the wind. Before the accident I rode 20 years no incidents but now realize I was only skilled at curves and straight roads, not slow speed and u turns. Your videos are a great help on areas I need to work on.

Wonderful and useful video. After watching this I went to a parking lot and practiced for one hour the left foot down and right foot on rear brake. I can't believe I did not learn this before. I've been putting both feet down and then accelerating from the stop. So lesson one and the slow turns were good to do. Getting better! Thank you!!

I commute to work on my bike (K1600 GA) everyday (weather permitting). I also practice solo pretty much every weekend at the local parking lot. But before my wife and I go on a motorcycle trip (2-up), we go to the park and practice 2-up. There is a difference in handling, especially braking distance.

Hadn't rode for 10 years and that was a crotch rocket. When I purchased my 2020 SGS last year, I told my wife exactly that. I told her it was a much heavier bike and to let me get more comfortable with it before I put her on it!! No shame in my game.

I don't foresee myself ever having a pillion passenger, but I haven't even bought my first motorcycle yet. I have my eye on a Yamaha R3, that's at a dealership really close to home. So far, I've only actually ridden a Honda Trail 70 mini bike, way back in like 2000, and a Yamaha TW 200 this past weekend at the basic motorcycle course. I only weigh about 120 lb, and I've been doing cardio and lifting weights every day since about this past September. That's why I'm hoping an R3 will be powerful enough for my first bike, but also it will be difficult to even find a potential pillion passenger that weighs less than I do, and that would shift the center of gravity for sure. I'm just hoping to get myself a motorcycle in the near future, and to get myself some better safety gear, like motorcycle boots and a protective upper body item, and protective lower body item too. I'm going to start out just driving the motorcycle around the neighborhood, and then to a parking lot where I can practice U turns and other maneuvers, and then gradually go farther, until I can ride my motorcycle to work, and show it to my coworkers. I've been really depressed this past year. It's coming up on the anniversary of my dad's death, and I'm still so sad about that and also my fiance leaving me a couple weeks later, and then I got fired from my job I'd had for almost five years the next week. I was really tempted to relapse on fentanyl; there were times that I wanted to get high so bad, but I believe that my dad would be proud that I've been clean from hard drugs for 4 years and 7 months today. The last time I shot up was December 17, 2018, and I overdosed and almost died. The main thing that helped me was that I started working out and lifting weights. I was hoping that riding a motorcycle would help cheer me up and to finally move on from my ex. Just riding the motorcycle at the class this past weekend was amazing, and I can't wait to do it again, so now I just have to buy my own motorcycle. I'm sorry for the super long comment. Like I said, it's coming up on the first anniversary of my dad's death, and I'm still so messed up about it. I still break down crying every single day. I still have trouble sleeping most of the time, and barely have any appetite. Getting into working out just let me use my ability to get lean to my advantage, but I just haven't had an appetite in a long time, and I just don't really have the enthusiasm. Plus, my teeth are pretty messed up from my time as an active junkie, so it's literally difficult for me to chew. Anyway, I'm just excited about having a new hobby, and it's nice to be excited about anything. All that shit happening at once last summer just broke me. I guess time heals all wounds.

I had to come back and find this video. Put the GF on the bike for the first time this season and almost went down slow turning-rolling into a parking space. Stopped with bars almost full lock left. Robert thank goodness I am in the gym daily!! For a split second I thought OK it's going down and then realized my GF would go with it. Took everything I had but I kept that monster up (She has no idea). I put a Brake tech brake pedal on, lowers the stock pedal. I think you might like it but 2-up riding, it is a different balance when stopping. The pedal angle is pressing straight down rather than pivoting your heal on the floorboard. Thanks for the instruction.
@BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle
@BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle 2 жыл бұрын
Yes that brake pedal is definitely something I need to get for Violet. As far as your session with your girlfriend, make sure you’re comfortable and smooth on your starts and stops and turns by yourself first. If you are, whatever techniques you’re applying are still relevant with your girlfriend on the back, just as it would be with a bunch of luggage. Preload!!! And Keep It Loaded!!!! © 👍🏾

Hi Robert, Excellent video and instruction. If you have to raise your foot off the floorboard, you should consider an extended brake pedal. I'm 6'3" and it's a must have option if you're tall. I even have a Mustang seat that sits me back 1.75". Softbrake is a very good brand. I have their +3" extended brake lever. Check it out..... some of your students may find it helps with your slow riding techniques. Always good to see the Queen!!

Coming up to the 35 years of riding and started with a 50cc Honda and moved my way up spent 10 years farming riding trail bikes often hard and at that point I was probably the best rider iv ever been..now I'm older iv got a big Harley street Bob and it's heavy, before I put my wife on I got a new twin seat the big one and a sissy bar .Iv got these parts and fitted them but due to not riding as much as I used to I want toget my confidence up .who is going to do the cooking if we both get hurt, its been 20 years since I lived on a bike and riding to work in the summer does not5 maintain my skill level to two were it once was ..I think I need some time in the park with the dog chasing and barking at slow speeds. Don't kid yourselves. With a passenger you're NOT in control, the passenger is. If the passenger scratches their knee, you'll feel it. If your passenger want's to get of at the next exit, then you're getting off at that exit. If the passenger doesn't know what (not) to do, you're fu*****. No matter what skills you have.

I finally took my wife for a ride today about 40 miles in town and interstate too... after almost 2 yrs of building up my confidence and skills . It went better then I actually thought. The main thing i told her is don't fidget and move around at slow speeds and in slow turns to throw me off balance . And it went well... super glad, and my wife loved it too. Still have lot to learn and riding 2 up is definitely whole another ball game but thank you for your teachings ...

I have searched for this video for some time. Been riding about 9 years, and just upgraded from a 2003 Vstar Classic 1100 to a 2013 Street Glide. I'm in LOVE. I also wanted to start getting my wife out on rides, but I'm the type of guy that likes to research everything. But now this video has certainly helped add some comfort to this process. My wife eventually will be riding her own bike, but in the meantime I want to get her some wind therapy, too! Thanks for all the videos, Robert. You're a huge asset to all of us riders that look to KZbin for advice! Cheers from Canada!

I got so much out of this video (really all of yours that I watch) that I have to donate some money. I’ll be doing that right after this comment is added. One thing though Robert, I didn’t see you introduce your wife. Is she camera shy or did you mess up, lol. Great video, I want to ride with my wife as a passenger, but I’m not there yet. I’m not the boss of my motorcycle yet. Still learning, but I’ll be ready soon.

Hey Robert, I have a question for you. I have a front engine guard and no saddlebag guard, and my bike is lying really low to the ground on the back. So what would be the best way to get my bike back up, especially on the left side when down? All videos and comments are very essential, as I am a senior 65 years old and don't have the strength that I used to have. Thanks very much sir. Love your videos and teachings!!!

Great vid! I haven't ridden by myself or with my wife in 13 years. I just picked up an Ultra Limited. My wife was disappointed when i told her i needed time with the bike before she got on it. She understood. My confidence is up after practice and riding. Great idea to run thru the practice with her in a parking lot first.

I can ride it but not with the feet up takes more leaning and also tends to push more at a slow speed and want to take turns wider looking for any tips I can use to practice most of my experience is more on sport and dirt bikes which in comparison turns like butter at slow speeds
