I've been riding motorcycles since I was 16. I'm 56 now. I finally signed up and took the beginner riding course to get my endorsement when I moved to Washington state many years ago. I was shocked at how much I had been doing wrong for years and years. I was 40 when I took that class. I own my own set of cones. I keep them in my tour pack and practice whenever I have a free moment. I would absolutely fly to Georgia just to take a private class from this gentleman. It would be money well spent. I just wish I owned a bike in Georgia .😂

Needless to say I am absolutely stunned by everything that you spoke on!!! You are a fantastic motorcycle rider and an AMAZING human being! I couldn't help but to subscribe!!!

If your going to buy the buy the ones from Amazon I bought about 50+ cones well worth it. At NYPD Highway Patrol Wheel School which is located in Brooklyn, New York we used the big cones and it happens to be a Certified Air Strip so we had plenty of room. Robert, you are amazing. I started riding in 1971, but i had a 20 year lapse. Starting back again on an ADV bike, I realize how badly I taught myself. You are definitely going to make me a better and safer rider.
don't worry about repeating yourself. drilling repetition into my brain has been a colossal help. i've been riding on and off for years with no issues because i could muscle my smaller bike around. i just bought a 550 pound ducati 1260 mulitstrada enduro that is 34 inches tall. whoa.....what a difference! i dropped it 4 times in the first week and had to go back to school on slow speed maneuvers. i've learned so so so much here about combining the throttle, friction zone, and rear break as a "team". i'm in the parking lot practicing your lessons and i'm a lot, lot, lot more confident and on my way to controlling this beast. can't thank you enough for your instruction!!!!!!

Thank you for putting these videos out there for guys like me. Today I went to my church parking lot and practiced. Started off with the start and stop with just my left foot down when stopping. Kept my right foot covering the brake and went on to some turns after I did that for a while. I gotta say It felt good turning and remembering that when I felt like I was falling to release the clutch more to get power to the rear wheel. That was a confidence builder. I appreciate you passing on your knowledge to us.

Hey Robert high respect for you brother for wearing the uniform and now putting in time now to help riders out there with your knowledge and experience! I’ve been applying some of theses slow riding techniques and feel really good about them. Now o have my wife in a parking lot and worked with her two days for roughly a few hours. I have to mention she had never operated a motorcycle with a clutch before ever abs she never thought she could do it and neither did I to be honest but I was determined to teach her some of the skills you’ve shown and others like you on KZbin. First day was getting a feel for the bike and finding the friction zone of the clutch and then got her to start walking with the bike until speed increased enough for her to release clutch all the way then come to stop and repeated for about an half hour or more. Long story short had her taking off using friction zone and a little throttle first day and no herky jerky at the end but smooth. Thanks for everything you do brother!
As always excellent video. And thanks for mentioning us. We also use the left foot down on all stops and right turns. In that video what I failed to mention that some people do it both ways. Great video Rob...

love the video, bro!!! specially the way to break down each step and explain the ins and outs . I'm so impressed I subbed your channel. when I took the MSF bike class the instructor made it clear to do the exercise SLOW, he said anybody can ride fast because it's easy but riding slow takes skill and practice, that's why I practice in parking lots just like what you show here. I want to be a SAFE rider as well as a GOOD rider, . My wife of 39 years wasn't to crazy about me getting a bike at my age but after I brought her to the parking lot with me to see me practice her worries went away, I also bought safety gear, ,helmet, jacket, boots, gloves, etc. now she's cool with it and help me pick out stuff for my bike. my son is grown and out the house now it's time for me to do something special for me, bought a 2021 Honda rebel 300 , thank you for using your time to help and instruct all of us watching how to be a better biker, it's much appreciated, gonna practice real early in the morning before I go to work when it's peaceful and quiet outside. I work at a national fitness gym chain and also been working out since I was a teenager which helps me handle and hold the bike up at times when it started to lean.

Before that I had a 55 pan hard tail. I’m going for a glide as soon as I’m able. I’m really looking forward to setting up my own course. I’m in NC. Thanks again!

Just back from a 200-mile loop from Phoenix through Superior and back. Kept hearing "this is the slow-ride exercise" or "stop to tight left turn" in my head as I was riding with 5 others. Everything is practice. Some NYPD LT once said that (but I think he was wearing Crocs and socks when he said it so it was hard to listen.)

People watching don't realize how hard that is what you were doing in the parking lot at the beginning. I had a KZ 1000 back in 1977 and I thought it was a big bike I think 525 lbs. I parked it in a barn for about 35 years and just bought a 2020 street glide special it's a beast. The experience I had I may as well forget I ever had a motorcycle and start over. Can I do the u turns and the cone course, no not without scratching up my saddle bags. I've put about 250 miles on it and now it's winter. I am going to take a riding course as soon as the weather breaks and probably the advance course as well. Thanks for showing this stuff main thing I've learned from watching you is to stop using the front brake so much.

Great video brother I have dropped my street glide one time but it was all my fault I took a safety riding course at harley davidson in joplin mo an I pulled in to a gas station at slow speed had my handle bars turned so I could back up to a parking spot an hit my front brake with my bars turned an down she went but I practice practice practice thanks for all you video's an keep up the good work brother

Thanks Ben! That's actually a good mistake to make. Why? Because you know what you did wrong so it can be easily corrected and you were in a gas station. Keep up the practicing brother!👍🏾😊

Excellent video as usual. Very good point on discussing the weight of the bike. My bike is well over 800 lbs and sometimes I will use my bike for several days in a row riding a couple of hours each day for work and not using a car at all. Somewhere on or about day two I will notice that I am throwing the bike around in traffic much easier and smoother and the weight is not noticeable. It’s all about practice and is a perishable skill as you state regularly. Somewhere in one of your videos I thought I heard you say that the distance between the cones when doing the right and left turns was 6 feet, so that is what I have been practicing. Hard to do but I did it several times out of about 30 attempts! I see that the distance is 9 feet but I never would have attempted something like that in the past so thank you for your instruction and encouragement. Hope to meet you in person sometime this year.
@BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle3 жыл бұрын
Hey Larry. Thank you very much!👍🏾 I'm very glad you realized that because that helps a lot with your confidence. The actual distance that they are turning into is 7.5', but if you're doing it in 6', that's excellent!! Keep it there.👍🏾 Hope to meet you as well.👍🏾😊

What a great attitude and understanding of teaching. You are truly a leader and although you say you're not teaching, you really are. And in a positive and constructive way. Some un-named KZbin motorcycle "experts" have a very dismissive, insulting way how they go about "instructing" or critiquing. They are sarcastic and judgmental, as if they have all the answers. No one has all the answers. We're all on a spectrum of experience, trying to advance further.

And I'll keep provlaiming... I wish I came across you prior to my MSF course. I had issue with turns in tight angles from a stop. Was afraid of falling. Was never told about preloading, which makes an abundance of sense. Balancing between clutch and brake while preloaded, and keeping it loaded. The way you teach is clear. My mind can visualize what you relay, and it is as if you answer my questions which I generate while you speak. Much thanks again!

I have watched your videos for a week now, and practicing. I bought my first Harley Davidson, and it's a Electra Glide Classic. I have riding experience, but still alot to learn! I have dropped it twice now, with my wife on with me, Embarrassing? YES, But I'm learning from it, And I Keep Practicing, I am getting better at it. My major fear is dropping it and not being able to get it fixed, money doesn't come easy , some have asked, If I can't afford it, Why did I buy it, Well, Just Like Lots of others, I Love To Ride! Like you said, the weight of the motorcycle doesn't matter! I bought my first bike at 16, i was Immediately Hooked, Now I'm 55, I Still Love It! Long story short, I'm enjoying your videos, and learning, I live in Florida and if I could ride up and practice with you I would! In the mean time. I'll keep watching your videos. Thank you

Get some Pro Guards for your engine and saddle bag guards. Also there are motorcycledropguards which have an added piece to protect your primary. I found out about these from Robin The Lady Biker. Also check out Jerry Palladino’s Ride Like A Pro channel. He shows you how to install them.

@@karenshoucairmcgray4902 Thanks Karen, I appreciate it, I'm not too concerned with the saddlebag guards rite now, I'm eventually going to get a set of saddlebag guard eliminators when I get confident enough that I won't drop it again. But I will check into the primary protector, and I remember seeing him show other guards for a few other places on the bike, I'll check into it, Thank you..

Hooked on these videos. Been riding off and on for over 40 years, but took a long hiatus and realize I have lost a fair amount of the skills I had. Guys PLEASE practice this skill if you’re new to riding. When i was starting out I made a right into traffic and didn’t have this skill locked down. Because I didn’t know how to lean properly my bike ended up into the middle lane instead of the right lane- i was a foot away from being hit, almost was, and it was a miracle the driver was paying attention and saved my ass. Don’t be like me, practice- I now practice fundamentals 15 min 3 times a week in a controlled environment (emergency braking, figure eights, etc). Stay safe out there
