We ride our 700cc 2 Stroke Dirt Bike on track for the very first time! It's been a wild journey to get to this point but our monster motorcycle build project is finally complete and ready to shred. 70 horse power + is a lot to handle on a motocross circuit so we've drafted in former 500cc GP racer Ed Bradley to help us tame the Megalodon. This is the moment we've all be waiting for, so sit back, relax and enjoying the feeding frenzy! ;-D
I'm so happy with the out come of this build project, but this story certainly ain't over yet. The Megalodon will return in 2022 as we continue our mission to develop the worlds fastest two stroke MX machine!
A massive thanks goes to everyone that has watched and supported the Project 700 series this year. Hopefully you've enjoyed watching as much as I've enjoyed creating these episodes.
As i always say this project wouldn't have been possible without the support of our awesome sponsors, so remember to show Muc-Off some love for helping us out with the build and giving me the confidence to pull the trigger on the Megalodon! They've got products to clean, lube and protect your bike. Next time you need to stock up on your cleaning essentials, be sure to give them a shout -
muc-off.com/co...
Become a member of the Megalodon family by grabbing some of this exclusive merch! We are only selling 700 units across the entire range so be quick about it :-) All money raised from merch sales will be ploughed back into the project to make sure that the Megalodon is the best damn 700cc 2 Stroke in the whole wide world!

"Pretty lame track" That is an awesome track. As stated in the video he couldn't go above 1/2 throttle. Trust me I ride my buddies KX500 in the desert its hard to get out of 3rd gear because huge mountains are coming at you quick and you have to shut it down. On a track forget it. My 300 is plenty the 500's went away for a reason. I actually switched over to Electric I am faster on it because it doesn't make huge noise the perception of speed is weird. When your bike is screaming you feel fast like a mental block telling me to slow down I am going to get hurt. Now I am.smoking my gas buddies that I used to follow.

Would LOVE to see a pro ride that on a track with doubles and triples as well as a long whoop section - running around in second gear with a couple table tops seems like the brakes got more of a workout than the throttle.

First of all open class two stroke motorcycles take a completely different strategy to be able to turn fast times on a motocross track compared to a 250cc 2-stroke compared to a 125cc 2-stroke And like they say if I have to explain it you'll never understand. But I will try as no one has ever really explained it to me. As we know usually an Open class two stroke will weigh in a few more pounds than a 250 but it doesn't really seem like that much more until you hit the throttle and for a moment the 500 are open class bike in this case a 685 CC will hook up momentarily now you've got a lot of momentum unless you have to bring to a momentarily stop to square off a berm and then wfo on the throttle instantaneously that will pull your stomach muscles into Knots and Charlie horses have you haven't worked out in the gym lately... So basically from my experience while you're jamming the throttle wide open and you're concentrating as exactly the last second to jam on the brakes for a half a second and then jam the throttle back on and the 20 are so pounds extra over a 250 feels heavy... So again from my experience when you're traveling and accelerating and turning the track times of a 250 or faster you begin to feel the inertia and the g-forces that just a few pounds there over a 250 seems like a lot as you find your upper body shoulders and muscles becoming extremely tired faster than they would on a 250 so again physical shape of the person riding has a lot to do with turning fast times on an opening class bike.... I don't remember the German company's name that makes these engines... Not sure if it was Maico who first use them or it might have been ATK but they both use these engines in their motorcycles as it was years ago there was some old footage of a 700 Maico (685cc) on a dyno producing 90 rear wheel horsepower stock no mods ... And after all the tuning on this bike in this video looks like mostly diminishing returns... You can still buy stock 2018 Maico 700 in Street legal, supermoto, and Motocross trim. All three motorcycles have exactly the same engine... As the one with street legal lights is your Enduro model.. top end is well over 100 mph... The supermoto has a smaller front wheel I'm not sure what size, comes with supermoto tires for asphalt only. It's all black with carbon fiber fenders side plates I think but looks really sharp... In certain countries in Europe they still race sidecar Motocross and mostly what the Maico 700 was all about...and before you tell me about Maico breako ,I am the original author of that slogan to discouraged new buyers as I was asked to come up with something to bash Maico'$ forever ... Requested of me one day by the original USA importer regional sales and service representative and Maico Factory team rider for the United States... His name was Brad lake who I had known since we were about 13 years old and in 1976 Brad said to me Chucky think of something quick we got to discourage people from ever owning or buying one of these bikes as at that time Brad lake was about second or third in the nation in outdoor motocross as Brad had a factory works of only one that was similar to the WR 400 that came out in production two years later and Brad was unstoppable on the WR prototype and didn't give a s*** if he sold one pennies worth of motorcycles as his dad had bought the franchise and gave it to him to keep him out of trouble

Maico 700 two strokes have been raced for last 7 years during the Australian Finke Desert races where Maico has brought over modified 'works' editions of the 700cc to compete against the KTM500 EXE F ridden by world champion Toby Price. Toby has ridden one and said it has way way more power than the factory 500 EXC Fs. They before arriving in Australia have in the past been dyno tested to make up to 79hp standard and the factory bikes can make up to 87hp at 12 degrees C running VP race fuel. They go similar to this one of yours but they do have significantly more power and these Maicos would be regarded as being THE most powerful two stroke dirt bikes...BUT one thing that you guys can take claim for is that you guys have built such a bike without any factory backing, which is just as impressive. Great work guys.

The 490 is a special beast for starting. With no reed valve and no advance-retard ignition, they're on a complete next level from CR500s and stuff. I don't hear many people talk about shearing their kickstart lever clean in half from their CR kicking back; I've seen a Maico do that twice in one season when the timing was off by a hair. It took me ages to get my 440 to start reliably, but now that it's got the magic carb settings it's become quite easy. 2 seconds with the screwdriver and you could make it impossible. Such great bikes though.

I grew up in the Coachella valley. Sea level, three to five years zero precipitation. One of the best place in the world to grow up on a motorcycle. Where the country clubs are now, there were once magnificent sand dunes. Had to have, and open class two stroke, to keep up with my friends. Who are all armed with air-cooled, Big bore, motocrossers. The RM, and the YZ, we're both 465 back then. Honda had the CR 480, macio had the 390, an ATK had 401. Killer bees of Indio hills. You could go out riding all day, and never see another soul. You can order a 700 Maico from Koestler ktm /Maico. Zabel helped the factory Maico design there water cooled cylinder. In 1984. Zabel was a German side car racer and builder. He adopted the Maico 500 bottom end and designed a 700 barrel to compete against the big 4 strokes. Koestler and Zabel still offers many size Maico 2/Strokes. It appears someone bought one and engraved there name in it. Long story short. It’s a Maico! Long live the mighty MAICO 👍🏻

Max, I can't begin to imagine what that thing would do if you really opened it up and let it eat! It sounds like you are merely puttsing around just of an idle, yet both Ed and you say it is blooming fast. At half throttle you aren't even getting into the powerband on a two-stroke yet. If you were to get it into its sweet-spot, it is going to be like trying to moto-X a cruise missile with a rodeo saddle on it LMAO! I have ridden some very gnarly 500 2T bikes that were way overkill power wise, but they needed to be 3/4 throttle or more to be making their power. That 700 makes it look and sound totally casual to be that fast. Color me impressed and jealous. I love to live on the brink of insanity; the best high in the world, IMO, is the smell of 2T race exhaust and the adrenaline rush created by the symphony of pissed-off pinging when the engine is on the pipe and trying to rip your limbs out of their sockets. I am knocking on the door of 50 and still appreciate a good rip on a well tuned big bore 2T MXR. To date, my greatest thrill was on a Service Honda 500AF that was pushing 75hp at the wheel. The gentleman that had it built spared no expense and had well over 25k in the bike. It was insanely light and a blip of the throttle had the front wheel headed for the heavens and the back wheel spitting softballs at anyone behind you. 3 laps around the track was enough to let you know that you were further out of shape than you realized; the wrist and shoulder pump was unreal, your heart was pumping like a top fuel dragster, and you were nearly numb from head to toe, but the adolescent speed junky in you did not want to get off the machine. It was saddening to have to return it to its owner but was the pinnacle of rides for me and a better experience than taking a podium the first time as a kid. Be safe!

@@999lazer I wish that OEM companies would move to fuel injection with 2 strokes and bring back the big bore bikes because 4 stroke tech is not the same. While 450s are great all around bikes maintaining one is far more expensive for the trade off of not ha ing to mix your fuel and while they have tons of grunt they do not have that blistering surge of "OMFG!" Everyone saying they want to see a pro on it with more power is right. That would be insane on the right track, but damn you're going to have to find someone crazy enough on a track with some big climbs to actually open it up. If I remember right, back in the day Villopoto ran MX Des Nations on a 250 competing with 450s. He was with Kawi at the time and they built a high 70's hp 250f to compete, and literally had their fingers crossed that the motor would hold together. I've ridden a full mod 450 and full mod 250 with built to the hilt Pro Circuit Kawasaki engines and suspension. They were actually terrifying when I rode them at 15 years old and 105 pounds with my gear. They made insane power and were set up for tighter outdoor tracks at the time so the power out of the corners was complete madness. I ran an 07 rmz-250 at the time with an exhaust and could easily run back to back 30 minute motos. I think I got two laps in on the 450 after I got slightly comfortable with it and my arms and legs were dead. Maybe four or five laps on the 250? Those bikes were just too much to hang onto for me. I can't imagine what a 700 is like, but I'd sure like to ride the Maico 700 someday.

Based on how much power it has (1hp/L), I'm guessing it doesn't have much of a powerband kick at all. My old Maico is right around that ratio (45hp, 440cc) and it's just butter from the bottom to the top. Most of the big-bores were torque monsters that had almost none of that 2-stroke madness that the lower classes had. That did eventually change when you started seeing 60hp+ from the 500s, which is right about the time everyone got scared and stopped riding them (funny how that works). Whenever someone went for broke on big-bore horsepower (TM400 Cyclone, 1985 CR500, etc) the bikes tended to put people in the hospital. The good ones were always big mild kitty cats that dug trenches in the most relaxing way.

That bike should be turned into a desert racer! It deserves to be! Match made in heaven. Even a pro big bore rider can hardly get it wrung to half throttle on a MX track. Lol. They even had to take down the early 500's to be effective for MX. Still cool though! I live next to an old baron railroad bed and it would be fun to do a straight rythm through there with this bikes for sure!
@worldssickestmedia2713
@worldssickestmedia2713 2 жыл бұрын
Lugged it around the entire track. Never once got up in the high RPM power band. I'm not sure if there is a pro rider that could. What an absolute monster. Y'all need to find a crazy American or Australian pro to try it out. Or let Seth Enslow or Travis Pastrana long distance jump it.
@jeromejeffrey

Exactly what I was thinking. Never tapped all 70 horses, although that would likely cause the bike to loop out if the traction is there.
@worldssickestmedia2713
@worldssickestmedia2713 2 жыл бұрын
@@jeromejeffrey yeah. I think at a certain point the power far exceeds any riders ability. Like yeah you could have a 2 foot long pecker. But what in the hell are you gonna stick it in? You gonna be banging horses and elephants? Or the guys out in Sweden that built that GSXR1000 dirt bike. Like you didn't want to try the 600 or 750 first? Why not just go for the Busa or ZX14? Then you go out there and get smoked by Jet Lawrence or Hayden Deegan or some other kid on a 250f because it's to much power to control and you don't have near the skill those 2 kids have. But I have to admit it's cool as hell. It's just way way way overkill. Need a long flat straight mile or two stretch to open that bish up and to actually see what it can do. Bet it could do every inch of 125mph or more. Damn. Could you imagine 120+ on dirt? 6th gear pinned wide open on my yz125 is like holding on for dear life. Especially if it's just a little bumpy. That thing must be a terrifying ride on a moto track. Like woah.
