A quick video of riding a mantrip underground at a coal mine. A mantrip carries miners underground to their destination. It rides along tracks and is operated by the miners.
Check out the updated 4K version here: • Riding a mantrip in an...
Video shot with Nikon D810 and AF-S NIKKOR 24-120mm f/4G ED VR Lens.
Quick note: The camera was not padded and is sitting on the frame of the mantrip. It was an impromptu shot, next time I'll try this with some padding between the camera and mantrip to see if it helps with vibrations.

I want down the pit in 1975, I was 16 years old, it was before all the health and safety rules, I spent 14 years on the coal face, and even though i lost 2 fingers in a accident, I never thought of it as dangerous, I look back now, and it actually scares me, the things we did. God bless all miners.

One colored set of ribbons shows this is the primary escape route which is also the main fresh air intake (air is being blown into the mines by large ventilation fans on the surface). Another set shows shows doorways while other colors shows things like first aid supplies. The little signs are numbered telling the driver how far in he or she is. Also each track that turns off is also labeled with a number or name. Other signs shows where underground phones are located and where methane monitors are and so on.
@adamkarolewics9530
@adamkarolewics9530 5 жыл бұрын
All those signs tell him where doors are for other tunnels on the haulage, where self rescuers are, fire fighting equipment, different track crossovers and any other information pertaining to things of that nature in the mine. Then you have your escapeway lifeline hanging along the side of the rib as well telling you how to get out in case of an emergency.

I worked for Murray for 6 years and was laid off when they went into bankruptcy protection. This is one of their West Virginia mines but I can't remember exactly which one. I would usually shoot video at the Ohio County and Harrison County mines and I believe this is their Ohio County operation.

@EssingtonCreative
@EssingtonCreative Жыл бұрын
@@MaddieMontana-pb8nr I actually worked for their parent company at the time but I do know some mines will allow visitors. The only thing is, a visitor must have an escort so it may not happen because that's someone taking their shift to escort you. But if like a safety person may be up for it. If you were to bring camera equipment underground, you would need to make a list of what you'd bring and have it submitted to MSHA for approval prior to visiting. The mines owned by the company I worked for did have equipment ready for visitors just in case. Are you local?

6,8,12&16 foot bolts. The holes are drilled as the coal is mined out. Mesh is set and once you’re ready to bolt Resin is pushed up with your bold and torqued down. There are a lot of variables but simply put, that’s how it’s done.

Yes they have specially designed filters and Exhaust to deal with Emissions. Although they still put out Gases from burning diesel but that's what the Constant air flow underground is for. Moving gasses and diluting them basically
