I grew up in Detroit and it's suburbs. Until I was 20. I now see the once beautiful, thriving city in ruins and it hurts me. I sometimes use the Wolverine from Chicago to Dearborn lately. Thank You for this video!

All so familiar to me. I've been in the new Dearborn Amtrak station, the old Michigan Central station, the Amtrak station that is still in use near Woodward and Grand Boulevard Streets, and the old Amtrak trailer which is now long gone. I even rode the old Turbo liner out of the Michigan Central Terminal, which is now under redevelopment by the Ford Motor Company. A lot of change, for sure.

I worked at Wayne yard when I started out with Conrail. Fun place to work! I would work ML441 to ELKHART, IN. or work Wayne 1 yard job.

I helped build the square white building at 2.33. Ghafari building 2. We hand unloaded those lightpoles in the snow!

Hey Nightwolf! (I do know a smattering of German) This is great stuff! I can see why they need to build a bigger station in Dearborn! Also, I have never been on this line, as the last time I was in Motown it still used the "Rose Street Trailer"

9:09 good view of the REAL Detriot train station the original Michigan Central station Amtrak was too cheap to use
@Robbi4964 жыл бұрын
too cheap? it was a financial albatross. Underutilized and somewhat under maintained!

was hoping to see the old Michigan Central Station at 16th street...we used to ride the Deluxe Motor Stages from Chicago because they would stop at 16th street saving us the trip from downtown. With the other bus company, we would have to go all the way downtown so we did not use them.

Dearborn... so this is where my city's biggest employer has it's headquarter.

This is the first time I've seen the Amtrak station in Detroit, and I find it absolutely baffling that a city that size has a central station that small and unassuming - barely room for 2 cars in a city of 700,000 people?! Really??? I mean given they closed Michigan Central in the 80s, I guess we should be thankful that there's any rail service to downtown at all, but still - a pretty parlous state of affairs. Sums up rail in the USA nowadays I guess. I hope and pray that one day they can restore Michigan Central and give the Motor City a terminus it deserves.

Michigan Central is indeed being restored, ironically Ford will be using the office building on top of it as their R&D headquarters for electric, alternative-fuel and autonomous vehicle research. The lower/terminal area will be used for the time being as event space, but the renovations will allow for potential future commuter rail and Amtrak use, so we'll see. Fingers crossed.

Why is the engine pushing instead of pulling
@normangeuder78065 жыл бұрын
Often Amtrak has an engine on each end. It made it easier to return on the return trip. The engine you saw there was coasting.
