Yes. I have a 2003 and 2004 model. My only complaint is the ABS system on the 2004. The ABS module failed late last summer. This appears to be a common problem and the replacement and repair is rather expensive. Too much for a bike that is 16 years old. So now I'm looking to bypass the unit to convert the bike to traditional manual brakes. Thanks for watching.

Great and fun bike. Very torquey and was a very easy transition coming from a 150cc and having to ride it for a few days while visiting family in the US. Miss that bike a lot. Great handling, great power and very easy to lift the front wheel in first gear;)

This is so funny, looking at buying a r1150r so I'm browsing through videos, stumble upon this video of the same roads i ride all the time. I live off beacon light and my go-to rides are either dry creek/cartright or eagle road to pearl!
@WheelStories5 жыл бұрын
The R1150R is a nice bike. I now own two of them. Black and Silver. They're a good value if you can find a used model that's been well maintained. I've been fortunate not to have any problems with the bikes. For short rides around Boise I like Dry Creek and Cartwright then over to Horseshoe Bend then down Black Creek Canyon to Emmett and back through Eagle. Thanks for watching and leaving the comment.

I am really enjoying your videos. I have been riding a Suzuki V-Strom for 12 years. It's a great bike, but I have always loved the looks of the BMW r1150r. I have the opportunity to purchase a 2004, silver, like your second one. It has 44k miles. I've never ridden one and wonder if it would make a great second bike.
@WheelStories Жыл бұрын
Choosing the right bike for you is a personal matter. If possible, I'd recommend that you sit on the BMW and take it for a ride. The R1150R may feel quite different than the V-Strom in terms of ergonomics and handling. Be mindful that the ABS braking systems are known to be problematic on the 2004 era BMW R1150R models. Mine failed and it took some effort to convert the bike to standard brakes. If it has ABS, the potential issue should be factored into the price. The BMW R1150R fits my needs and works for me. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

I never had a soft spot for BMW bikes and somehow avoided riding one over the years.. This year a buddy "convinced" me to have a test ride at the local AD. Eventually I rode a 1250 GS, a 1150 R and a 1200 RS. Okay, let's make it short. I already sold my Ténéré 700 and will buy a R 1200 R very soon..

When I first purchased a BMW I wondered whether I had made a good choice. The BMW was unlike any bike I had ridden before. After getting accustomed to the peculiarities of the bike, I had no regrets. I love the flat twin engine. Thanks for watching and posting the comment. Good luck with BMW.

Thank you so much! Video production is a craft that folks can study and learn. I probably spend more time at it than I should. I occasionally get tired and frustrated while shooting then pack up the cameras in the saddles bags and forget about it. Just enjoy the ride.

is it the one with the power brakes? Those are ridiculously strong.
@WheelStories4 жыл бұрын
No. The BMW featured in this video has standard brakes. I have another BMW that came factory equipped with the fully integrated ABS brake system but the pressure module failed a little over a year ago. I converted that bike to standard braking after the failure and documented the conversion in a video featured here on Wheel Stories. Thanks for watching.

Hi again. I have owned already a bike (Honda VTX 1300) but thinking about second one much lighter and i consider BMW 1150 R of 2001 (no ABS). In your opinion it is a good bike for easy, relaxing riding? Thx for your comments
@WheelStories5 жыл бұрын
I think the BMW R1150R is a well rounded bike good for many styles of riding. I find the bike easy and relaxing to ride. No ABS is a good option. The servo assisted ABS from that era of BMW can be troublesome. When the ABS module fails the repair is expensive. Many owners simply bypass the ABS instead. Thanks for watching and leaving the comments.

Hi, what tires so you recommend for a some smooth pavement ride with some grip on dirt? I've got the 04 R1150R 😊
@WheelStories3 жыл бұрын
I haven't used any tires intended for off road riding. I've used the Metzler Z6 and Z8 tire. I've also run Michelin Pilot Road GT tires. I can't say if I like one model better than the other. My off road riding is limited on the BMWs. If I had a GS, I'd likely hit more dirt and gravel.

Why the need for background music? Doesn't the exhaust make a good enough background sound? My R1150-RS certainly does... That section of broken pavement looked nasty. Hopefully they gave you a heads-up beforehand...
@WheelStories Жыл бұрын
Getting good sound from the engine through the camera mic is a challenge. I haven't found the perfect setup yet. Usually, more wind noise than engine sound with the camera mounted to my helmet or handlebars.

First off all, thats a beautiful bike !! Can i ask how tall u are ? Im 5 ft 7, i fear this bike is too tall for me. I have bmr r nine t, and its perfectly fine, but this one seems too tall.
@WheelStories2 жыл бұрын
I am 5 ft 10 in. I have an aftermarket seat that is taller than the original to give me some extra leg room. I would think the bike isn't too tall. The GS models, the ADV bikes, are tall. I test rode a GS and I was on the tip of my toes.
@__AF___2 жыл бұрын
Hi! I am 194 cm tall, in your opinion this bike fit me?
@WheelStories2 жыл бұрын
The bike may feel a bit small at your height with not enough leg room. The only way to know for sure is to sit on one and take a test ride. The BMW R1150GS is a bigger bike option.
@francorubio4 жыл бұрын
Maybe its a weird question but how tall are you? That bike is good for a 1:90 guy? Thankss! So good video! I think i will buy one 1150r 😍

I am 5 feet 10 inches tall. I have a custom seat on the bike that is about 1 inch taller than the standard unit. Plus I use a gel pad on top of the seat for longer rides. To give me a bit more leg room.
