We did part of your route this past September, we started Highway 12 from Kooskia heading east and camped at several campgrounds along the highway. We then explored the Elk Meadows Road loop from Highway 12 back to Highway 12. From 12, we drive south along 93 until North Fork when we went west along the Salmon River. We turned south on the Panther River Road. At the summit, it became the Morgan Creek Road. Just stunning scenery and there was little traffic. This was my favorite loop of our 35 day camping trip. Thanks for sharing so I could relive that part.

My favorite small towns were Darby and Challis. There is supposed to be a great pizza at an RV park along 93 before North Fork but they were closed on the Monday or Sunday we were there. We spent four fun days in the Boise area and when my wife flew home, I slowed the pace and rode up to Kooskia, then to Lolo and Kalispell for the night. This was at a much nicer pace. From Kalispell the next day it was the Going to the Sun Road through Great Falls and on to Glendive. The next day I returned home. US 12 was the the best. The Going to the Sun was fun, but I enjoyed the near solitude of 12 more. Great video, I enjoyed it thoroughly! Here's my video, but if I had it to do over, I'd narrate it rather than songs. Thank you so much for watching! That's a good idea - I'll put it up somewhere today and reply back.

I posted a Google map of the route here: tdnotion.com/links/ If in the area, also go see the Yankee Fork gold dredge and the ghost town of Custer. Well worth it!

@@troutdogadventures7751 Awesome, thanks. I've got a buddy in Hailey I'm planning to visit when I retire in 3 years. Looking forward to doing some exploring.

I'm surprised you didn't do the White Bird Grade old hwy 95. I've done this route a couple of times, it never gets old. For a great experience instead of staying in Lolo, try the Lolo Hot Springs.

I don't know how I didn't know about it. On the todo list now. Thanks!

This isn't the first video I watched in the last three months of a motorcycle going through the Idaho Mountain Highways. I don't know what peace it is supposed to bring me to follow a motorcycle down that road. Three months ago today, my sister died on that highway on her motorbike. She and her husband were on their motorbikes on US12. It was their second time driving their bikes in Idaho. They were just there last year. Last year she hit a deer and sustained road rash, this year, she hit a semi truck and died immediately... the accident report says it was about 38 miles east of Kamiah. You mentioned it being a bucket list item. Well maybe it was for her. I guess the only way I can understand her passion is to watch these videos and see her passion through someone else's experience. I don't know if I will ever get to Idaho to see the place where my sister died... but through videos like this I can see the last moments of her life through your eyes. So thank you. I'm so sorry. That's awful. It's hard to describe the motorcycle experience. I think about the danger every time, yet I'm still drawn to it. Thank you for watching.

@@troutdogadventures7751 I guess she was too. I could never understand it and never appreciated it... (even through she took me on rides when we were younger.) I don't want to sour anyone's experience if they still love their two wheeled aventures. I realize the same could happen to me in my four wheels. We can't stop living because of the things that can kill us. Some people die in their sleep... and we need to do that every day. We just need to keep living and appreciate every moment .

These folks sound like foreigners. Lolo is my turf. Another of my favorites is the White Pine Scenic Drive from Potlatch/Harvard up to St. Maries and Coeur d'Alene. You used to have a full canopy of trees over your head on the highway. Like driving through a tunnel of foliage.

I'll have to add that to my todo list!

Just found this great video. Thanks for sharing. I might do this exact ride this spring. Any idea about the best time of year for this?

I did it in July, which ended up being a bit warm. If you're not doing any of the BDR portions, I'd say mid June would be perfect. Stay (or at least do lunch) in Darby instead of Lolo. Endless possibilities. I need to go back. Thanks for watching! Here's a link to the exact ride: goo.gl/maps/bUngHNCyuH933Fmm9
