It’s interesting to see how Amelia is with her mother in this scene - running over to Fay and cuddling with her. Bev’s and Jason’s relationship is complicated not only cause Bev is a teen mom but because she has a habit of putting herself and her needs and dreams first, before her son, often without even realizing she does it.

This is one of the best most emotional scenes in the movie. I love it. Beverly being so honest with her best friend and faith giving it back. If she didn't love jason she wouldn't of saved him. The fact that she didn't think about herself at all jumping into that water says everything.

If you relate to drew in this, you might need to try and look at your parenting. If you think like this about your kid they’re gonna be damaged. My mom was like this towards me and it’s so hurtful, and I don’t think I’ll ever heal from it. And even if you feel guilty and constantly apologize like she does, that doesn’t make it okay either. In fact making yourself the victim and getting so upset just makes the child feel even worse.

clearly you dont have kids cause EVERY parent goes through this. Ps, I am a child and family therapist. Slide down off that high horse.
@maxfr1422 жыл бұрын
@@sarabobara8458 Just because most parents go through this, doesn’t mean they can treat their child as Beverly did. Jason is fucked up due to his mother... no one would have a chance if all parents acted as she did.
@Mariagabrielaromano11 ай бұрын
@@sarabobara8458my heart breaks for the kids sent to you. Parents can have this questions but that doesn’t justify projecting their pain in agressive ways to kids. If this happens commiting to learn healthier responses is important, otherwise the adult will be fueling a cicle where both parent and kid get more and more damaged. It’s clear some therapeutics approaches deepens long term harm just to help adults avoid uncomfortable feelings.

@Silvercentipede4 жыл бұрын

@dandanmanlyman4 жыл бұрын
That's the point. The movie is about her conflict of loving her child but resenting him for making her a mother before she was ready and when she really didn't want to be. It challenges the way we look at women as being "naturally maternal" and how women who aren't don't have a place in society. And then, how children are badly effected because of it.

What were the real reasons why Fay's parents didn't like Beverly? Her and Fay have a great friendship. Ok I see that Bev shouldn't of called Fay's mom an ice crotch, but the mom didn't have to punish Jason by not taking him to the movies. I actually feel sorry for him for what his mom did.
@runnersdialzero12443 жыл бұрын
I'm thinking they probably (incorrectly) assumed Bev was a bad influence and was a big part of the reason Fay got pregnant. Just my interpretation, though.
@Bella-Mae04223 жыл бұрын
They believed that Bev was a bad influence on Fay and watching Bev throughout the movie she wasn't exactly the most likeable person and the way she treated her son majority of the time, neglecting him emotionally, treating him like a burdon showed how cold and selfish she can be. Bev cared about her son in her own way but kept blaming him as for why she didn't get to go to college and live her dreams. And I think Fays mom didn't want to take Jason to the theater after her "ice crotch" comment bc she knew that would be exactly what Bev would want, to have someone else take her son for a bit out of her hair bc it was clear that Bev never enjoyed mothering Jason. And she probably never even knew about the "ice crotch" comment until just then when she brings it up to her but bc Bev was already rolling on ectasy she shared too much info. Fays mother wasn't personally attacking Jason but not gonna help Bev out either.

No I agree she was a terrible mother, you can see the hate in her eyes when she looks at her son. Ray with all his unforgivable faults, you could tell really loved and had a bond with the child. Pregnant at 15 or not it’s not the child’s fault. It’s just a shame cos you can tell she was never really supposed to be a mother, or at the very least be a mother at a much much later date. I know people who got pregnant young unexpectedly and they love the kid to death and wouldn’t change anything, you could tell Bev would change everything in a heartbeat. I can sympathise with her at times but there is no one I feel more sorry for in this film than the child. Pregnant at 15 or not it’s not the child’s fault.
