Wow.. this kind of reminds of the first time I got to ride my neighbour's 220 on a rainy day, coming from a humble P150. It's been over a year now, but I can still recall every single detail - the weight of the front end, the air circumscribing me, the wet and broken roads...all of these factors made me put a lot of effort. And, I was duly rewarded on that particular ride, more so, by the torque of the machine...absolutely brutal. I still remember laughing like a maniac upon experiencing the grunt :D

Please share your thoughts on riding on slippery road, especially in hilly terrain. There are cases where even ‘break’ doesn’t work. In NH 39 , due to heavy rain and landslide, riding is too hard on slopes . Rain and layer of eroded soil make it very hard .

This incident happened yesterday 3rd August 2024 I was riding to kamshet with 3 bikes and 6 people. For safe riding we have decided to ride with discipline and maintain good distance with each other. Due to its start raining after the talegaon toll plaza we have all came to halt and wear raincoats. Just after that one of my friend started leading, I was in the middle and the other one was behind. This is where the incident started, the friend which was too slow behind me (I was around 30-40 kmph speed waiting for him) i looked back and once was able to see i gave him gesture to join coz he was too slow and that's where I got distracted and my bike started going towards left and as soon as I see there upfront was a pothole ( at junction between highway and service road) and it was slight corner, my instincts made me hit the front brake and that's when my bike's front tyre lost traction and we fell from bike. Due to Hanuman Ji's grace no damage happened to both the bike and two riders. Learning - your safety comes first. Don't get distracted for someone else. Have abs in your bike and wear good riding gear.

Shumi has a ton of experience, riding 🙏. I am not an expert, but the below has helped me: 1. Wear good quality full bike gear (always, whether its wet or dry). 2. Make sure your motorcycle has soft-compound tires and the right air pressure. 3. See, Scan, Plan & be easy on throttle 4. See, Scan, Plan & be easy on the break 5. Use the engine breaking carefully to slowdown, especially during downhill (basically stay on a gear which automatically reduces your bike speed for a smooth downhill ride). Overall learning how to use engine breaking safely goes a long way to safely break. I am not an expert, but I am constantly learning this skill. 6. Choose safe speeds, especially when you can't see well. Always don't assume the things you don't see. Example: You might think the road ahead is smooth as it appears ok in rain, but you will run into a speed breaker which is on the same color as road. Or a pothole. The fall can be nasty and I have been through this myself. 7. Hopefully you ride on a bike which has dual-channel ABS. Don't assume that ABS will do everything, its important to follow steps 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 regardless of ABS. Personally, when its pouring crazily and if you still want to ride, sometimes you can't see a thing with your helmet visor. I have noticed myself slightly opening the visor by 1/2 cm to avoid fogging (Your warm breath might cause the fogging). If visibility is getting worse with heavy rains, STOP in a safe area. Additional Tip: Carry a small plastic bag on your riding jacket to put your mobile phones and then keep it inside water proof pocket of your jacket. So one less thing to worry when you really have to do rides during rain.

Another time, I rode more than 235 kms in almost continuous rainfall wearing raincoat, when I wanted to attend our school reunion, which I didn't want to miss.

Hi Shumi Sir … I ride a BMW G310 GS BS6, & started riding just 9 months ago, after a break of more than 15years. But after watching ur video, I feel U just shared my experience of riding my bike in the rain for the first time 2 days back. Each and every point from the fear of falling, skidding tyres & later finally to the success of enjoying the ride in a heavy rain were all too the point. I too was fearful 2 days ago when the time came for me to ride in rain, but I too kept my head cool, concentrated on my throttle , saw far up instead of just ahead of the road & finally anticipated moves of all the things ahead of me & kept safe breaking distance from them. Also intend of panic breaking I used Engine breaking to slow the bike. So watching this video just assured myself that all the things I did were correct. Now I am confident that I too now shall be able to ride more in the rains & njoy the beautiful rains. Thanks for ur assurance. Wish you a safe ride.

The helmet visor is very important, good ones have a rubber seal that prevents rain water from entering the inside of the visor. The outside of the visor however can be cleaned with the finger wiper! Always check for water tight visors when buying new helmets. Thankyou for the topic!!
@abhinavbanerjee96493 жыл бұрын
One of the major issues in rain is the visibility through the helmet visor and fogging inside. Pin locks help in overcoming the fog but how do you go around the wet droplets building up on the helmet at moderate speeds. High speeds tend to push the droplets away but slower speeds cause build up. I use an Axxis helmet and I feel the drop in visibility when I am braking towards an intersection or traffic. I literally need to wipe the outside if the visor with my gloves to move away the droplet build up. What would the PD Army suggest for this?
