I am Japanese. If you prefer to eat on the Shinkansen, I recommend a special lunch box called "EKIBEN" which is sold in the Shinkansen station. Japan is an island nation with a very long shape, so each place has its own specialty food.EKIBEN makes it easy to enjoy them. The price is also available for about US$8-10. For children, there is also a bento box shaped like a bullet train, and the empty box will be a souvenir for children after they finish eating. (Of course, adults can also purchase these, but the menu is geared toward children and the portions are relatively small.) If you are planning to travel by Shinkansen in Japan, I will be happy if it is helpful to you!

The great thing about Japan's Shinkansen is that it has had no accidents since it opened in 1964, and even during many major earthquakes, it automatically decelerates rapidly and has no accidents. China and South Korea also have high-speed trains running, but many accidents and troubles have occurred. The yellow Shinkansen [Doctor Yellow] runs in the middle of the night and inspects the train for millimeter-level deviations and damage, and runs non-stop every day, so you can ride with confidence.

Japan's Shinkansen has never had an accident since it opened in 1964. Even one minute late is considered late. In 2015, the Linear Shinkansen set a Guinness World Record for a top speed of 603km. Average speed 500km

Even before the operation in 1964. Shinkansen already knocked death 5 railway workers who were working on the track. Other accident, knocked car at the track, drag a 17 years old boy to death because door closed too fast in 1995 etc etc

@@Js136Thai ,it's meaningless to compare Japan with China for high speed rail operation, remember China operate about 7 or 8 times HSR trips every month if compare with Japan. If you want to compare, even China Vs the whole world also not fair, since China operate more HSR trips than the rest of the world combine. Imagine you compare the safety of a bus company which operates 160 trips a day with another bus company which operates only 20 bus trips a day. Does that make sense? Driver A drives his car every day, while driver B only drive once a week, you want to compare the two drivers?

@user-fu2fp2mj1x , those people who compare Japan HSR trips with China HSR trips are really ignorant of fact that China operate 7 or 8 times more HSR trips than Japan. They think a bus company which operates only 20 bus trips a day can compare with another bus company which operates 160 trips a day? Just to compare the planning n coordination of trips, China surely have a more complex process! In fact China operate more HSR trips than the rest of the world combine

6:22 You say the maximum speed is 320 km/h. The Shinkansen line between Osaka and Tokyo is called Tokaido Shinkansen. Unfortunately, it cannot go that fast due to many curves, so the maximum speed is limited to 285 km/h. The only Shinkansen that can reach a top speed of 320 km/h is the Tohoku Shinkansen (Tokyo to Aomori) on some sections.

Hi, just came back from japan. If you have the JR rail pass. You will have to ride Kodoma train which stops in every station and could possibly take about 4 hours to get to tokyo from osaka. You will have to purchase tickets which cost about 15000 yen per person to ride the Nozomi shinkansen which will take you to tokyo in about 2 and half hours. Also the train isn't crowded, so you can actually just sit anywhere in the non reserved part of the train.

from osaka to kyoto, it is better to take the local bus or local train. It is way cheaper and faster as well. Using Shinkansen from Osaka to Kyoto is a waste of money and time. We didn't know so we took the SHinkansen from Osaka to Kyoto. We end up wasting time going to Shin-Osaka to catch the Shinkansen. Then when arriving in Kyoto, we have to catch local train from Kyoto station to Nikko hotel. Total time was 90 minutes travel and wait time. My brother took some local train from Osaka and arrive to Nikko hotel in 65 minutes.

There are many comments pointing out inadequacies in Japanese, but please don't worry about it and enjoy your trip to Japan. However, from my point of view, if you talk loudly while filming a video in the car, the other passengers will feel uncomfortable. In Japan, it is polite to move to the deck space near the door when talking on the phone. So, if you want to have a loud conversation while filming KZbin, I think it's best to move near the door and talk.

Yeah, a shame we don’t. Just got back from Japan and took the Nozomi line (Shinkansen) from Tokyo station to Shin-Osaka station. It was fast, efficient, comfortable, clean, and quiet. Around a 2 hours 40 minutes or so for the whole trip. No trip to the airport, baggage claims, or any other airport hassles to deal with. In all, trips under 500 miles can be faster and more comfortable via HSR than flying. Perfect for commutes like San Francisco to LA, LA to Vegas, and so forth. I’d take the HSR vice flying for those trips every time! The U.S. could really learn from them. In my 2-weeks in Japan visiting three areas, never had to rent a car once. Rail and buses took us everywhere we needed to go and were efficiently ran, clean, and convenient.

@hoodhunter3262
@hoodhunter3262 Жыл бұрын
@@sua527 Nozomi train does not accept JR pass. Only difference between Nozomi train vs other train like Hikari or Kadama is that Nozomi make fewer stops. For example, from Tokyo Station to Kyoto, Nozomi will make 4 total stops. But if you take Hikari train it makes total 8 stops. And Kadama makes 12 stops. I don't remember exactly how many stops but you get the idea. The speeds of the trains are all the same, just that the more expensive ones make fewer stops, therefore you get to your destination quicker. I was told they recently raised price on JR pass by 70%? JR Pass is not worth if you you don't plan to go to at least 6 cities from east to west. If you plan to go from Tokyo to Kyoto and Osaka, just purchase the ticket as a la cart. Many tourists don't know JR Pass has limitations on which inner city trains are eligible with the pass. JR pass is only for convenience so you don't need to purchase single fare. Though you can get from district to district within Tokyo using JR Pass eligible trains, but the route you take to end up adding extra time to your traveling. Instead, to travel within Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, we prefer to purchase the Suica card (get the Welcome Suica version). The Welcome Suica card works like a bank debit card. Simply add money, scan when you take the innercity train, and it can be used at convenient stores to purchase anything. Tip, when taking the bullet train like Nozomi, don't waste your money to purchase the Green Car (First Class). Instead, just purchase the regular car (non-first class). I hate the First Class car because the foot rest is in the way to put my large luggage. Also, first class seats seems to be older than the non-first class. Weird! Regular car has plenty of room to fit any large size luggage and for your leg to relax. Tip 2), if you plan to go from Tokyo to Kyoto/Osaka, There are only 2 stations you can go from. Tokyo Station or Shinagawa station. Easier to go from Shinagawa station as the station is smaller and easier to navigate. Otherwise Tokyo Station is VERY VERY VERY big. So big that it is confusing and easily lost. Bullet train like Nozomi, Hikari, Kadama tickets can be purchased in advance at either Shinagawa or Tokyo station. Hope this help. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Or is it better to buy tickets from the station itself (face to face)? Also, how long does Kadama with the like 12 stops take as compared to Nozomi with lesser stops? @@sua527 from Tokyo to Osaka or Osaka to Tokyo, we took Nozomi because it gets there in the shortest amount of time. It took 2 hours 20 minutes from Shin-Osaka to Shinagawa station with 4 stops. From Tokyo to Osaka we took Nozomi as Reserved seating on Ordinary-Car. We were there in July, not sure how much price has been increased. Cost is per person 14,400 Yen ($100 US dollar). From Osaka to Tokyo, we also took Nozomi but riding Green-Car (First Class) for 19,000 Yen ($135 US dollar). Klook is good if you know exactly what date/time you plan to go. Otherwise, you can purchase on the same day at the kiosk at the station. Keep in mind there are no live person to assist with purchase Shinkansen. At least not for us. Maybe they didn't understand English. I tried and the person at the counter kept deferring me to use the Kiosk machine. The train with the most stops saves a little bit. I didn't bother looking at Kadama, but Nozomi and Hikari differ only like $2-3 US dollar I think. According to this site www.jrailpass.com/blog/tokyo-to-kyoto-and-osaka, Hikari makes 11 stops, Kadama makes 16 stops, Nozomi make 4 stops. When you are in Tokyo, there are many trains operated privately. JR Pass can use any train line that starts with JR. Though you can get from point A to point B using the JR network, but sometime it is not the fastest route. Maybe slightly longer by 5 minutes or so, depending where you go within Tokyo. At the bottom of this link shows you all the local trains affiliated with JR Pass for each city. www.jrailpass.com/the-japan-rail-pass. Calculator to tell you if the JR Pass is worth it or not: www.japan-guide.com/railpass/. Keep in mind, using local trains within Osaka/Tokyo/Kyoto are dirt cheap simply with Welcome Suica card. JR Pass is worth if you plan to go all over the entire country of Japan. Before you go, you got to download and install Google Maps and Google Translate. This is a must have to survive in Japan, especially with Google Maps. It tells you how to get from point A to point B and exactly what train to take and how much. Another tip, if possible have your hotel do luggage transfer for you to your new destination, check with them at least 24 hours in advance. I think it cost like $20-25 US dollar for each luggage. Better than to drag big luggages throughout the city. Japan is not a forgiving city to walk around with luggages. Too many people and crowded escalators. Elevators are often out of the way. One other thing with Shinkansen online purchase if you decided to use it, you download and install Smart Ex. One problem with this app or even to reserve through online. It requires registration and registration required selected credit card. in the USA, I know only American Express and Mastercard works. VISA card will NOT work. I tried and spend endless time talking to my Visa company as well as calling SmartEx to figure of why registration keep failing. Frustrated that SmartEx claim Visa works on their site, but the site is outdated. I found out it used to work many years ago. But Visa has updated their security backend to Visa 3-D Secure version 2.0 while most or all the merchant systems in Japan still uses 3D -Secure version 1.0. Because of this incompatibility, every merchant payment not updated to version 2.0 will fail during register verification process, including Universal Studio. . I found this out the hard way after digging into the security system behind Japan financial payments. (Keep in mind, only the register verification part fail, but my Visa credit still work as in I am able to purchase anything while in Japan)

I am grad to watch this video in which you enjoyed Shinkansen trip. I recognized that you were as quiet as you can in the train, however if you superimpose narration, it will be better because your narration is still noisy for other passenger in Japanese manner. I hope you enjoy rest of your trip.

This is not the fastest Shinkansen/Line in Japan. Hayabusa is the fastest train in Japan, reaching a maximum speed of 320 km/h (200 mph). There is a direct train connecting Tokyo to Shin-Aomori in just 189 minutes.

So much confusion between "metropolitan" and "city". Tokyo city has 13 mil (its 25 wards, the "real" inner Tokyo has 9 million) whereas Tokyo metro area has 35 mil. (Same goes for many other cities. For instance, Seoul city has 10 million but Seoul Metro has 26 million, NY city has 8 million but NY Metro has 30 mil, etc).

@@DelightfulTravellers That is what I meant exactly. If you go by "metropolitan" population, Tokyo is NOT the biggest city in the world. Shanghai metropolitan area for instance has 40 million people and there are other metropolitan areas that has more population than Tokyo metropolitan area.

It's great that you are traveling around but why stay in a place for only 1 or 3 days. You should have stayed in Tokyo for 2 weeks. You can't experience hardly anything staying in Tokyo for 2 days. Are you just trying to just check off boxes in visiting places just to say you went there? OK, saw it, let's go to the next city.
