I leave Sydney and head north west in search of the Bridle Track, a foot and horse trail created in the 1840's after having to navigate rain and fog through the blue mountains.

as always, I can never get enough of you and your himmy rides. I take my MSF course mid march and I plan on getting myself a 2023 himmy as well. It's such a gorgeous motorcycle despite being as spartan and utilitarian as it is. I hope to get a pine green himmy but none of the dealerships near me carry one, maybe i'll just buy replacement parts with the pine green parts and install them.

Hey there, Joe, well, another great video, one little bit of information that I have done with my tent. Every time I am gone on these long trips I will fill up my bathtub with warm water and put the whole skin in the tub and let it soak for a while, then hang it out and then set the tent up as though I am camping to let it air dry in the sun, seems to work really well, anyway, I love where you’re riding as I always do, such an awesome country hang in there and look forward to your next, as I always do, Rob from the US

Thanks mate, I am glad you are still enjoying the series. I did something similar with the tent, I put it in a big tub in hot water left it sit for over 24 hours, let it dry etc.... I have done it a few times after trip, maybe I just didn't do it straight away after the first long ones. I first used it when on foot on the Lake Tahoe Rim trail in California then the PCT. Anyway still works fine, just a new shade of brown, we'll call it character😂

Hi Joe Thanks for another great video I took your advise and downloaded "Gaia" Maps and made up a track in the Southern Flinders ranges It took us to this area that no one had been for a long time. Lots of big Billy Goats, Kangaroos and Emu"s The thing that impressed me about the "Gaia" maps was its accuracy the track was very hard to see because it was overgrown and we lost it. So we looked closley at the map and just rode untill we where on top of it and picked up the tarck again Very Impressive !

You wouldn't believe it but I just got back today from taking a couple of Bridle Track virgins for a 3 day run through there then off to Kangra Walls and back through Wombeyan Caves road with as much dirt as we could find. It's a pity people can't do Monaghans Bluff anymore. That was an interesting part of the track with not much room for error especially with the boulder on the track😂. So, what was your lap time on the track? I'll bet it was blistering! 🤣 Not exactly what our bikes are built for, but at least they’re brilliant on roads like the Bridal Track, what a beautiful area! I rode some dirty twisty bits last Sunday, as always the old tractor just chugged along, taking it all in stride. After hearing about the DRZ rider, I'm even more tempted to come to Oz.

@freewayproject
@freewayproject 7 ай бұрын
I would have a look on the GPX files on this website transaustraliatrail.com.au/tracks/mapview#content . There are trails west of Sydney and you can either go west (around the Tumult) or east of Sydney (deus national Park area). Then getting on Barry Way from Jindabyne. You can take a left from there to McKillops Bridge or take Limestone road towards Omeo, from Omeo you can get back onto the dirt to Dargo. Then there are a series of dirt roads and tracks towards Melbourne, The GPX files have all the details. Hope that helps.

Hey Joe great episode loved it. Re those soft paniers the rinowalk 24litre ones? How are they ? Do you prefer the soft now over the hard?
@freewayproject
@freewayproject 7 ай бұрын
thanks Lincoln, glad you enjoyed it. the Rinowalk 24 are great, no issue with them I have dropped the bike and dragged it and didn't damage them, everything has stayed dry, so far they are doing the job. Hard verses soft. if you are going to be doing long road sections, stopping in towns more then the hard ones are great as they are lockable in town and they are way easier to get in and out of and pull stuff in and out. If you are going to be more on dirt (rougher harder tracks) the soft ones are better due to them being lighter it is easier to ride the bike and you don't start with your suspension already compressed further. The soft ones do take longer to get in and out of and it's harder to find stuff and pull it out .

@freewayproject Thanks Joe for the detailed reply. You are a massive inspiration. I'm in tassie and can't wait to rise around my own state. I also loved your around Bali series and I'm doing that next trip there. Wifes from Java so we are planning to try Bali to Solo in Java where she is from and maybe on to Kalmantan. You should do Kalmantan it would be awesome. Sorry last question. Any feedback on the rinowalk rackless panniers? They are interesting because of the weight reduction but I'm scared there maybe be an issue with heat on the exhaust. Any feed back much appreciate, stay safe.

@@LincolnRandall-vy9nl one of the straps dropped onto the excuse as I hadn't put it through the tidy look properly and it came lose. I have had no other issues with the excused, it sit about 5cm above it and doesn't move. Well I am sure not too many people will read this far down, but I am currently in Indonesia doing some research, I am trying to see the logistics of getting from Wetar Island in the East all the way to Banda Aceh in the west along the island chain. (oh and I am here surfing). I have surfed the outer island of Sumatra a lot and islands to the east (lombok, Sumbawa, Sumba tip of Java) but If you have any information on Java Sumatra or any thing else in Indonesia, places to explore etc, I would love to hear. I am not sure if I can pull this off but I am at least going to do the research and try.

@freewayproject Awesome matey I m excited at the proposition of that trip and watching on youtube. I'm still a bit if nube so I doubt I can help you much. I have sufed some of the places you talked about when I was younger. I had an idea a while ago of riding across lombok then on to Bali then Java and then on to Kalmantan. I don't thing there is any issues with ferries on that trip. Kalmantan would be awesome as it's not as densly populated as Java or bali and has some amazing national parks. It has a larger river system running through the middle. My wife is keen and she said no problems with ferries and vechiles on that route. I'm not sure about other islands but generally in indonesia there is always a way if you have money 🤣. Best of luck and hope the surf is pumping.
