Taking a ride on a classic trolleybus has been on our "to do" list for some time, and a recent visit to the excellent East Anglia Transport Museum enabled us to do it.
The trolleybus in question is an ex- Derby Corporation Sunbeam from 1960, with Roe (Leeds) coachwork. Powered by electricity from overhead power cables, the ride was so smooth and quiet, such a contrast to the noise of a diesel-powered bus but without the flexibility of routes available with the latter, which led to the demise of the trolleybus. This example served until 1967 and is now preserved along with a number of other trolleybuses.
We highly recommend a visit to this transport museum, where rides on a trolleybus and on a tram are available. There are also numerous classic cars, commercial vehicles and related memorabilia on display, along with re-creations of garages, a taxi cab business, an old post office and shop, and much more besides. A video describing the museum as a whole has also been uploaded now: • Our visit to the EAST ...
It's located in Carlton Colville, close to Lowestoft in Suffolk, East Anglia, UK.
