This was our experience during the eye of Hurricane Ian at the height of the flooding. The wind blew from about 11:30am to past midnight. The flooding occurred between 2:30 and 6:30 and did not completely subside for two days.
We were incredibly lucky. Not everyone was as lucky. Please pray for the families less fortunate.
Our close neighbors had left so we knew we didn’t need to check on them. There were no reported injuries in our area.

I’m a Property Inspector in the UK & your coverage is really informative. I’m glad your property has come through it without any structural damage nor water inside. My friends in Daytona Beach had 3’ water through their house & everything ruined with foul water! Thankfully everyone I know & yourself have survived. We are hearing of tragic loss of life.

@@bobbygfl We live near the Yacht Club area of Cape Coral and had the very same experiences like yourselves as you so vividly show in your great video. In our case, the storm surge stopped just short of the level of the house floor, 5 inches to be exact. The garage was flooded with 1 inch of water though, no big deal. However, we lost a wooden fence and most of our surrounding bushes and trees, avocado and starfruit, plus one big old Royal Palm tree that came crashing down with the wind and missed our car by about 3 feet. Aggravating, but not critical of course, was the extended loss of electricity which spoilt a lot of good food in the fridge and separate freezer. Luckily, we were able to do some cooking by using an old propane camping stove. Can't do without your morning coffee! Our love and sympathy to all our fellow residents who were not as fortunate as us.

Not sure how he did. I'm in NW Cape, and we got the fuck out of there. Our whole yard got ripped to shreds but we have all our infrastructure (power, clean water, internet) back. Our soffet is badly damaged though and I don't know if that will cause structural damage as it has rained since. Anxiously waiting for the moisture test tomorrow morning

Since it’s already installed you could as a last resort use Quick Dam products to build up a temporary wall around it, maybe lay down a double wall then as a just in case put a small sump pump next to it with the cord running into a nearby cracked window to plug in/cut on as needed to pump out any water that might still build up from rain and leakage.

I rode it out here in Cape Coral too, as I had hurricane Irma. The storm surge came right up to my home before it stopped rising. The power went out just after 4:00 pm, and was out for over a week, just came back on Friday morning at 9:20, and I got internet back about an hour ago. I lost nothing in this storm, and I know others who lost everything. I cooked and made coffee for my neighbors on a propane camp stove for a week, and a great neighbor got us generator power until LCEC got the power back on. God help all those who were not so lucky as me and my neighbors here.

Your house is lovely and well built. Thank you for sharing your experience. I'm an hour or so inland. It was dark when Ian's eye went over the house. No storm surge or flooding but powerful and LOUD wind that shook the house. It was amazing the next morning to see a hummingbird feeding on the still blooming mimosa and flowers on the bent over trellis. Life goes on.

Thank you for sharing your families experience in Hurricane Ian. Whether on the clean side or the dirty side of the Hurricane and the right side is always the dirty side. That being said being in the eye of the Hurricane is nothing to sneeze at. It was a serious Hurricane that your kids can tell their kids and you can tell your grandkids in later years! It's amazing the power of a Hurricane now the second round of Ian is the flooding and many of the folks got caught in again. Sadly people in mobile homes got hit extremely hard as well as many one story houses. I think raising the A/C and Generators on to more concrete block may be a good thing to consider. Theres the chance that you will never deal with a Hurricane again and we hope not!!! But living in Florida is part of life when we were living in the Keys Hurricane Wilma was a major hurricane in 2005, wind and flooding but that is expected in the Keys due to the location of the Keys. We evacuated due to flooding and damage to cars was the norm. Again thank you for sharing your families experience during Hurricane Ian that will go down in the history books as the most catastrophic Hurricane in Florida history, for now!!! God Bless you and your family and all that were in the path that lost all their stuff. And sadly those that lost their life in the Hurricane!!!

Love your GSP's! I lived through Ivan in '03 while in the Cayman Islands. My GSP, Tessie Tomas (RIP), was traumatized for months afterward. I think all the stuff on the ground that shouldn't have been there and the smell of all the dead birds, animals and foliage made a profoundly negative, lasting mark on her. We went out by bicycle the day after Ivan passed through. Total devastation, just like what is being experienced in Ft. Myers, Cape Coral, Sanibel, etc. now. I saw the flat tail on your boy at 16:00. It was a million dollar experience I wouldn't have paid a nickel for. Best wishes to you , your family, your property and YOUR DOGS!!

We're experiencing 'climate change' in Iowa now; It was summer up until a couple weeks ago and now the climate is changing into Autumn. Soon, our climate will change once again...to Winter! How About That? Who Knew?!

No more, major hurricanes now than the past 100 years. Climate change? But very nice comments.. I like how you mentioned the lessons you caught from the video. That’s important. Floridians thank you…

Hey I live in Monterey and grew up in Louisiana and spent a lot of time in Florida. The only time I felt scared during a hurricane was Andrew in S. Florida, the wind was so strong I thought the roof would come off my apt building. I fortunately missed Katrina although had to go back for a couple funerals.

Wow!! I don't like flooding, too scary. I'm in NW Cape Coral on a canal and luckily didn't get any flooding. The wind was horrendous though and took about half of my roof shingles, my vinyl fencing torn down, 1 big palm tree uprooted, and my lanai torn down and in the swimming pool. All nothing compared to what other's have lost. 🙏🏻😇♥️😢

I feel for all of you south of us. I am in Plant City In eastern Hillsborough Co. We just got wind damage unless you live near one of the rivers like the Alafia river. That is causing severe flooding among many other inlet rivers in central Florida.. Being a life long Floridian, I can say that this one will go in the record books. One day at a time. Thanks for sharing all of this with us neighbor.

If the ocean 🌊 is in the front of your house surrounding your home, You should be evacuating your home, You are in the eye of the storm which is dangerous!! 🛑🛑 And you should be placing disclaimers on here. Wow what an ordeal! I'm up in Tampa and we prepped for this but you guys got it instead.. Great clear video too.. Here, our whole house generators, the ones who have them, in most areas near water they are up on stilts or whatever the correct word is..like the A/C units are as well in lower flood zones..looks like where you are by water they would have done the same.. Hope your beautiful home was not damaged too bad! Prayers for you guys!

That water was a bit too close. So glad your house (friends and family too!) survived and fared pretty well compared to others. I hope your neighbors came out ok too. It's gut wrenching to see the footage of the intense flooding and severe devastation that has taken place over there. Btw, no one was in the red car across the street, right? At one point it looked like the lights were on and I thought "oh please tell me there's no one in that car who needs help getting out!"
