Back in the 90s I had a road registered cr480 it was so loud! And off the mud and on to the tarmac the power was amazing used to beat everyone

Good video. Racing 80’s in 1981. Hopped on local pro raced his Honda cr450. Was 14 at time. Was able to start bike back then. Won the race with his bike. Remember that the first gear was faster than my third gear on the 80. 🇨🇦

Had and raced a 1983 CR-480 As well 87 CR-500 Unfortunately i sold both after I quit racing outta the two the 500 was a world's better bike to race but would rather have my old 480 back for simplicity purposes that and the LEFT SIDE KICK 💪😎 The fact that everyone compares the old BIG BORE TWO STROKES ie. CR-480's CR-500's to the modern day four-stroke 450's goes to show just how good and potent that they were back in the day !

The reason you have a hard time starting it , is because you are standing beside it instead of getting on it the way you are supposed to . I owned one from brand new in 83 , and never had any trouble starting it whatsoever from day one. My bike before it was an RM400 which was a right hand kickstart. No trouble starting that either, when I got the480 it was just kick through all the way with no fear and no problem. Kicking while standing beside it demonstrates fear , which is your problem. Anyone that wanted ride mine I made them start themselves, as many asked me to start it for them. The deal was you can’t start it , you can’t ride it.

My mate had one of these on his farm and another lad tried to start it one day and broke his leg, absolute death trap 😂

I had that new when i was 16 was 5'8" and 120lbs i had to bomb start it when it was cold. That was my favorite bike.

Yes, the 1983 CR480RD had the five speed, a welcome addition from the '82 four speed. Oddly the RD still had a left kick starter and a right side drive train but was still a good bike.

I had that bike. The key to starting it is to get a full swing on the kicker. Put only your toe tip on the kicker, this will allow your boot to go under the footpeg thereby allowing a full swing. The key to riding it fast is to shortshift it. In other words, stay off the pipe.

I had an 82 480 The only trouble I had with it was when it back fired while kicking it broke the stop smashing the left case and trying to make the rear tire last

My 1982 CR480 has amazing front a rear brakes to be honest can't tell the difference from them ,and Disk break

Needs a balanced crank. Bet I'd be super snappy. I hate engines that are like paint mixers. Bikes not dialed in I'll find somebody that knows how.

Your jetting is off, they need a much leaner needle and pilot, brakes must be fixed, double head gasket. It will start better and be faster

Maybe because of the custom blue seat. The original seat for the 82' was black with 480R logo.
