Great video Leslie. Brought back many happy memories. When I went I was in shirt sleeves on the Cumbres and Toltec and in the snow on the Georgetown loop.

Fantastic scenery and looks like there was hardly any straight track going up there. Why was the railway built

Built to access the mineral resources - silver, gold etc - it was part of the link to Durango from where the line to Silverton ran as per earlier video. There was a lot of serious competition to access these places by different roads.
