Hey man, most of what you rode on the slick rocks and washes are fine, but there is a biological soil crust that covers most of the soil in Sedona. That crust helps prevent erosion and sediment loading on Oak Creek, which runs through Sedona (and eventually makes its way into Phoenix's water system). It also helps prevent blow out of the trails around the area. When you ride through it off the trail and through the plants, it destroys the crust and it takes 50-250 years for that cryptobiotic soil to grow back. Please stay on the trail next time you ride down there, unless it is completely rock that you are riding on. It costs the forest service about $450,000 a year and a ton of volunteer hours to maintain all the trails around Sedona. You really have to watch out for erosion issues in AZ, the soil and surface water quality is different than back east. Cool vid though, Highline is definitely one of the best trails around Sedona. Also if you find yourself in Flagstaff at some point, the trails are honestly way better than Sedona with way more descending.
@JadonHale6 жыл бұрын
Agreed! Riding in Sedona, you can see the difference from normal soil to the cryptobiotic soil. And living up here in Flagstaff and hoping one of these youtubers will come up here and ride these trails.
One of the best days of my life. I'll never forget this day. Seeing you ride in person was mind-blowing. So much stoke on an amazing day.

Anyone else feel like a ride with Phil or Alex would be one the best rides you ever had just because of how high energy and excited they are while riding? The positive energy just radiates off them and their vocal about it too 😅

Love the new Logo and short intro. Upping your game! I hope people realize you were one of the pioneers of the KZbin craze, and not a "me too" Johnny come lately. I remember watching your "Skills with Phil" videos way before any of the newer stabilized POV stuff was coming out. In fact, I learned a LOT from watching your tutorials! You're still that "I'll hit it guy" on all of the cool stuff, and your riding is off the charts cool to watch. I'm glad to see more people getting on board with sponsoring you, and I think the sky is the limit on your videos. You and Seth...started it all as far as I'm concerned!

Great riding, but creating new lines through cryptobiotic soil scars the landscape. Please stay on the trail or at least solid rock.

Good day to you, Mr. Phil. As a native Arizonan, welcome to our wonderful state! Let's ride! 2:02 - "Arizona itself is pretty crazy," it's crazy but it's awesome. I'm sad to be leaving it. 4:39 - Dusty Betty! Hello Steven and Tess! 😎 (it is so cool when my favorite MTBers meet up with each other and we get to see the results on everyone's channels) 6:05 - Yes, we have attack plants here in the desert. Some are cool, like the Saguaro, but others are just plain nasty (like this one). Definitely watch out for the Cholla! 8:26 - All I can say is, "Wow!" Great video, Phil. I'm really glad Arizona has made a good impression on you. I do one day hope to get up to Sedona to ride (I'm about a 5 hour drive south of there). By the way, I really dig the music selection for this. And I like how you overlayed it with the regular audio. I may try that in my next video. And is that a new logo I see? Stay upright and keep the rubber side down. -Brian

Phil if you loved this, which you clearly did, you would love the trails near Vernal Utah. You can go 15 minutes in like 6 directions and find a trail head. The serendipity trail at McCoy Flats is seriously one of the funnest trails that exist. And we're out here miles away from civilization so hardly anyone comes here but it's so awesome!

Would you consider getting with a local in Sedona or Moab and doing a video on how to identify cryptobiotic soil and other sensitive areas and then stress the importance of staying off them? I'm not saying you did any harm in this video, but a lot of people from back east may have no idea that they can do serious damage riding off-trail in certain areas. Thanks!! Love your channel!

Nice video Phil. You really should update your description though and comment on what a few people mentioned below on how you should never go off the trail because of the soil type in the desert. Most people look in your description of the video but they don't read all the comments so they might think what you're doing is perfectly fine and they'll go there and do the same. You are pretty big KZbinr and lots of people watch your videos so it would be helpful for you to do that.
