Deer Island Times editor Tanner F. Riche was aboard the new Deer Island - Campobello, NB ferry (Hopper III) for a Canada Day run to report on the new vessel. Here is the raw footage that was captured during the crossing to and from Deer Island Point and Campobello ferry landings through the Passamaquoddy. East Coast Ferries built the new ferry barge after the previous one sunk off of a wharf where it was docked during December of 2017. There was no ferry for this run last year leaving Campobello isolated from its own country. The new barge provides a safer and easier ride across the passage and the ferry crew were thrilled to finally get the season out of way. The ferry runs annually from mid-June to late September, landing at Campobello on the hour. Crossing time is typically up to 30 minutes.
