Lovly memories. We made the trip 10 years ago. We rented a campingbus in Hamburg to avoid the horrible costs in Iceland. We made a 3 day stopover on the Faroe islands. That trip is one of our favorite holiday experiences.

What a great idea! Sounds like the best way to experience Iceland, too! May i ask what time of year you went, and did you have much of a problem with mosquitoes? I live in the American southeast and we have some ungodly bugs here (our giant roaches fly). My neighbors nephew was visiting from Iceland one summer, and the poor kid was flailing like a maniac everytime he went outside lol. That led me to believe Iceland is a place for me - bugless 😂. Bless,

It was nice to see Seydisfjordur again after more than 52 years. !n the summer of 1968 we, 3 of us, sailed in a 10 mtr sailboat from Delfzijl, Holland with destination Seydisfjordur. In the Northsea we had a force 8 Northwesterly on our way to Aberdeen and from there straight to the eastcoast of Iceland. Had pretty good weather and it took about 2 weeks to reach S. , flew to Reykjavik and visited the hotsprings. On our return trip the wind was bad and returned to Neskopstadur and waited for the storm to pass and set course to Thorshavn where the Dutch Consul invited us over for dinner and a nice hot bath and the next day of to Bergen, Norway and from there back ¨home¨. We had a bad storm along the way, but otherwise not bad. But many in Iceland told us the boat is too small for the North Atlantic, also they had never seen a sailboat in S. and everybody were driving Japanese Jeep type 4x4, as the area was secret testing grounds for Japenese 4x4s One day would like to take the ferry back to Seydisfjordur.

I was inspired to go to Iceland in Feb.2017 after watching the thriller made there called 'Trapped' and I believe much of it was filmed around the port of Seyðisfjörður and based much upon the fictitious characters of this ship. I wanted to travel this exact route next time, so very pleased for the upload. All I know it would be a hugely expensive trip all in from Scotland.

Prompted by this video I travelled on the Norröna on its Aug. 16-18, 2023 crossing from Hirtshals to Seyðisfjörður (delayed by a day owing to bad weather). It did not disappoint! No, it’s not like cruising with Viking or Carnival, but the old tub has a funky-friendly ambience that seems exactly appropriate to its workhorse duties. I was particularly taken with the bookshelves in the Deck 5 bar, where I spent a lot of time just sitting and looking out at the ocean. As in the video, the Faroes were the high point. Thanks for making me aware of this wonderfully unpretentious, down-to-earth treasure.

The Vikings were incredible seafarers. They were all over the North Atlantic. Scandinavia to Iceland, Greenland and the Canadian east coast, where they also had a settlement centuries before Columbus got anywhere near the Americas, is a well “plowed route”. The Vikings did this with sheer guts and ancient navigational tools. In those days seafarers new how to figure out latitude, but not longitude making navigation very difficult. It only became possible to calculate longitude after a British carpenter, John Harrison invented the marine chronometer in the 1730s.
@shannonwittman950
@shannonwittman950 4 жыл бұрын
@@julianneheindorf5757 ... Yes! The Vikings were remarkable seafarers, able and willing to venture out as far as weather and sea conditions would permit at any given season. And no doubt -- sailing among the massive snow-draped fjords -- its not hard to imagine that they could sense the reality of their ancient religion surrounding their day to day lives. I doubt they ever gave much thought to the idea of sailing too far and dropping off the edge of the earth.

I like this video it makes me feel safe and happy . It’s like being in the 1980’s again . I would like to go but out of season like this all rain and mist . Lorry drivers with walrus moustaches and hot frothy coffee . And cheese rolls

I did an Amtrak train trip from Seattle , Washington to Syracuse New York. Then from Syracuse New York to San Francisco California. That was in 1984. It was the most exciting experience in my whole stay in the US. That time it was called the California Zephyr, going to Los Angeles. Going to NY, i met several nice people, and introduced myself as a proud Filipino. I hope I can make another trip like that before I pass away.

Another fanatatic video from you - thank you very much for taking us aboard the Norröna with you. I really like the trip-report-style of your videos which makes them unique in terms of marine videos. Keep the great work up! Thumbs up and subscribed, of course. :-)

I would like to have seen the engine room. That to me is the heart of the ship.
