Loved your video. Could get along with you so easily. The women's perspective part was great. I drive Heavy vehicles in the Army and was 1 of 2 trainers. One was an old guy who yelled, freaked out, couldn't wait for someone to do something wrong. Whereas I stayed super calm and made it a step by step deal. Literally all the female soldier's requested, or did whatever they could to be in my course. The other guy wanted everyone to have a hard time, maybe even females the most. I'd make sure everyone learned & got their lisence. Anyway, to shorten this lengthy dramatic story: the female soldier is all told me similar stories to yours while driving. That sometimes they end up working harder because they're challenged or told they can't do something. While others found it annoying that everyone wanted to do things for them. Some straightforward, straight up, were happy to let males do their stuff for them & skate.

Hi Dani It’s so nice to see you chose the field of engineering. I also went to Piney point my class started with 39 and only 11 of us graduated so I know you’re tough.I went to sea for several years.As life would have it I meet a mermaid. I ended up switching over to the international union of operating engineers there nationwide they have a lot of jobs in high-rises, power plants, hospitals, state job ,county jobs and federal jobs had to get stationary steam engineers licenses I am glad I did it gave me other options l could work on the ships or land . Someday you might meet a Merman just letting you know you have options good luck to you you picked a great profession .

An Engineer and a Woman. Go get that License. I never cared about anything with the crew, white, black, male, female or anything else as long as your goal was the same as mine. Be on time, be sober (Do what you want ashore), be safe, respect your fellow crew, and go home with all your fingers and toes, and everything else. It is an awesome career path. Love the video!! Thank you so much for making this. I go for my physical for my MMC Friday (August 10th) it’s the last step before they assign me a class date for piney point. You broke daily ship life down perfectly for me. I’m torn between Deck and Engine department but I’m leaning towards engine. Zanda Williams i can answer that for you. First off there is no set pay, each ship is a different contract so the pay varies. And I’m going through the program because you gonna catch hell trying to get on a ship as a C card. You’re at the bottom of the totem pole so I personally recommend going thru piney point because they will get you your first job which is phase 4. I do know a few people that have shipped out as a c card so it’s possible especially in the summertime when a lot of jobs are vacant because a lot of sailors take time off in the summer.
@misterceo21686 жыл бұрын
Zanda Williams i would say yes 4-5k

Zanda Williams hey. I’m an Oiler. Not an AB. My first ship after training, I had a super low base pay from a particular ship out of Jacksonville. I was a wiper at the time. I believe my base wasn’t more than $3500 and I only worked like 2 or 3 hours of OT. It was pretty bad. But after upgrading and working for a different company, I was good. My apprentice pay was like $3 an hour. No joke. I was poor lmao.

@Dani_TheUnicorn5 жыл бұрын
Borigirl thank you for watching my video! Good luck with your application. The working environment depends solely on the crew. We depend on each other. There is no cleaning crew. We are the cleaning crew. There is no one to do laundry. We do our own laundry. Essentially, we all have to work together to maintain a healthy environment. Literally and figuratively.

Your videos have been very helpful, so I thank you for that! I do have a question though. How does the whole laundry system work on these ships? Do you clean your own clothes yourself or is it someone else's job to do that? Also, is there a schedule to follow when it comes to cleaning your stuff?
@Dani_TheUnicorn6 жыл бұрын
Jin Sun hey!! Thanks for watching my video!! Doing laundry on the ship is just like doing laundry at home. You do it on your own time. There’s a laundry room. Everyone uses it. Most of the time, officers will have a separate laundry room though.

Greta video! If you don't mind my asking, what is the pay rate for merchants? Do you all have ranks or does the pay just depend on the job you do? Thanks

Hi there! Firstly love your videos. They are amazing and very informative! I wanted to ask about special dietary needs on board. I’m vegetarian. Would I be able to maintain the diet with what’s already on board or do I need to bring my own frozen foods and such to store? Also there are a lot of entry level positions. Do you select your task? You were an Oiler but there are also cooks and such. Nothing wrong with that but I would like to do more than just be a ship cook.
@Dani_TheUnicorn6 жыл бұрын
The Mamarazzi: shelshotya hey!! Thanks for watching my video, first of all 🤗 Second, it may be tough to maintain your diet. Veggies are served with every meal, and there are always at least two meal options to choose from. But it’s kinda boring like sliced squash for a week straight. Also, there are not a lot of entry positions. There are like 3. Wiper, SA (steward assistant), and Whatever the entry level for deck is called. I forgot.

Your videos are pretty cool and informative. How many days/week do you work when onboard, 120 out of 120? How does time off work? If you work a ship you like, is there anyway to remain on it long term? Are schedules UTC or local time, and if the former, does that mean you might have breakfast at midnight after crossing enough timezones? It would be nice to see a video of your daily work, filmed with a bodycam that doesn't interfere with it,
@Dani_TheUnicorn5 жыл бұрын
femanvate hi! Yes 120 / 120. More than likely, you will be allowed to renew your contract and stay. I’ve seen some stay for over a year. I would never lol. With time changes, we gradually change. An hour change every night to try and get adjusted. It throws your sleep off, but you get used to it.

Are all ships 4 months can they be longer if you want extended time
@Dani_TheUnicorn6 жыл бұрын
Jhamani Marcel some are relief jobs like 45 days. Most are rotary which are 4 months. Most of the time you can extend your time and stay on longer. Or you can be a permanent which means you’ll work 4 months on, and come back after your relief leaves. Thanks for watching my video, by the way!

You are a queen and such a strong woman !! I'm so inspired now... Why did you decided to become a merchand marine and not a captain ?
@Dani_TheUnicorn2 жыл бұрын
You can become a captain by becoming a merchant seaman/mariner. I became an engineer though. I didn’t go the deck route (the way to capt)

Are you still in contacts with Kesha ? Lol i have a engineering degree but it’s been hard getting work thinking about going to sea
@Dani_TheUnicorn6 ай бұрын
She’s family. An engineering degree is as important as a cosmetology license on a merchant seaman ship unless you have a marine engineering degree with the sea time and sign offs to match.

What does your room look like?
@Dani_TheUnicorn4 жыл бұрын
Kinda like an 80’s hotel with vinyl flooring. Lol Ugly. Plain. But it’s what you make it. I bring my own sheets, curtains, stuff like that to make it feel more like home since I’m there for 4/5 months.

09:08 You got it wrong (of course) it's not chivalry, it's for you don't mess up and give extra work. I saw this a lot, women doing something wrong on board and the rest of the crew working overtime to fix whatever mess the women made, sometimes it happens to men but only when they are fresh on board
