I’ve only just found you two on you tube and love your channel. My husband and I did a very similar trip to you in July / August during the school holidays as we are teachers from the UK. We did Java, Sulawesi and Belitung in 4 weeks. I haven’t watched your Bandung episode yet but it looks like you did a similar trip to us with the bullet train there then we did the panoramic train back to Jakarta to catch our flight to Makassar. We then went to Rammang Rammang, the Banggai Islands, Manado Tangkoko National park, flew back to Java to do Mount Bromo (we even stayed in the exact same hotel as you in Surabaya 😂. We then caught the train to Yogyakarta spent a few days there, then we also did the first class compartment train from Yogyakarta back to Jakarta. It was amazing and so cheap in comparison to the rubbish public transport we get in the UK where you’re probably standing up for the whole journey or the train is cancelled. From Jakarta we flew to Belitung which was only £40 one way for the flight and we loved the island if you haven’t been. Beautiful beaches and a great rock called Batu Baginda. We will be going back to Indonesia for the third summer in a row in July 😂. So it was great to watch your Lombok video as we are spending at least a week there. Funnily enough we’d already booked the same hotel as you Tika Kuta so it was good to a see a room tour. Keep enjoying your travels.

In reality the noise isn't bothering, it might be the too sensitive mic. Other KZbinrs' audio isn't this disturbing. Of course we fix the tract from time to time, the old track won't fit the new trains.

You can do the compartment train from Jakarta to Surabaya (and vice versa) via Yogyakarta. That trip is about 11 hours in total so it is about 3 hours longer than doing the direct Jakarta to Surabaya along the north coast (which you can do in Luxury Class). I found the compartment train is particularly good if you want to work on the train due to the extra privacy (although Luxury Class is quite good also). The luxury trains in Java are a great alternative to air travel if you are travelling for business.

Shout out to Jogja innit! I've got to say that having not been back to see the folks for the best part of 7 years until this year, I was amazed and impressed to see how developed the rail infrastructure and service was, remembering how ramshackle the trains were 30 years ago. Used to regularly hit up Jakarta to Jogja and Jogja to Surabaya by rail. The rolling stock was shagged and haggered since your vistas from the window were punctuated by peppered cracks and remanents of projectiles from away day fans. I do miss the charm of hawkers hijacking the train at every stop, pedalling their local delicacies, but even rural stations have gatelines now. My wife was astounded by the service and punctuality, which puts GWR and Transport for Wales to shame. But there is a dark side to this - We often used to joke that "aah the train is delayed, because it got derailed" or "the 17:45 has arrived at 16:40, albeit yesterday's train". But yeah, puts a pleasantly different persepective to travel, for the relative cost of peanuts! Pro tip, next time you fancy doing a Central Java train journey, take the Argo Willis Panoramic from Jogja to Bandung or the reverse. Amazing views probably rivalling, in my experience, the Semmeringbahn and the highland lines. The panoramic car is a cut above the executive class, but not as opulent as suites. I don't think anything in the UK compares to the recent choo choo rides I had over in Indo, although one could argue that getting absolutely blatajaared at Gare Du Nord Business Class lounge before clambering on board your Eurostar makes for a contransting, yet equally fun exerpience.

You can take a luxury ferry to enjoy the beautiful beaches in Labuan Bajo. You can depart from Surabaya. The name of the shipping company is DLU (Dharma Laut Utama) and it doesn't feel complete if...didn't try their VIP SUITES class the room price is not more than 150 US dollars and that is included in the VIP SUITES ticket oh yes, there are only a few ships that provide VIP SUITES class and one of them is DHARMA RUCITRA 8 (ex.haru maru no2) and the other is DHARMA KENCANA 5 (EX.kobe express) and the others are VIPs who usually maintain the original Japanese interior because most of their ships are ex-Japanese

Enjoy your trip on Surabaya mate, anyways.. If you want to continue your journey to Bali Island like Denpasar, you could try a 5 Star executive Bus called the MTrans. The fact that it's only $15-$25 but the journey is a one of a great experience to enjoy, the seats are very comfortable like it's almost similar to 5 Star Airline...

Although there has been a lot of progress in Indonesian railway services with exclusive and comfortable services, there are still many things that need to be fixed because the track is old, making it bumpy and the journey becomes so shaky at some points of the journey. So far, it has only been partially rehabilitated and revitalized. Meanwhile, if it has to be replaced with a new one that has been studied in the existing feasibility study for the safety of road users because there are many intersections with the road, then an elevated track must be made and the standard gauge of the track rail must be changed to be wider for the type of modern, higher-speed train which of course requires a huge cost with a track of thousands of kilometers.

Actually, you could have a longer ride on that train that goes from surabaya to Jakarta (around 6-8hours). It costs around 2mill Rupiah if I'm not mistaken 🤔
