Spending 9k for a train ride and not having everything included is wild!!! For that price, they should include anything I want. That's highway robbery.

Suzanne when you reached back to take Jebs hand as you were making your way to dinner made my heart drop, it reminded me of times spent with my late wife and how much I miss her, to many these are just infomercials but to me it's a married couple who enjoy their time together filming the adventure, true you gotta pay the bills but the two of you make it much more personal thanks for taking us along, until the next time.. enjoy life together 😊

Glad you got to make this trip! It is silly money to spend on 24 hours, but if your a railroad enthusiast, an Agatha Christie fan, or just love good food it's on your bucket list. I'm all three of those things, and if I win the lottery this would be my first trip. J&S- you looked great and I'm glad you enjoyed.

got to remember they are influencers so they probably got a discount for the airing it on their channel. (influencers must inform ahead of time to Media part of companies to inform they will be filming) 500k subscribers and up this is pocket change for influencers. I love their channel, but I tend to wince when they whine about crap that they got for free. You know it's also paid for if not 50 - 100% when they say this is "sponsored" by...... (Also there is almost no negative issues regarding service, etc so you know they got some free stuff from the train ride) I still love his narrations and they are a beautiful couple , they need to do some real stuff for regular people once in awhile. Come back down to earth.

Hi Jeb & Suzanne, I think by now we all have established you ARE travel influencers. But one thing I appreciate is that you still have the authenticity of honestly reviewing your travels; unlike most influencers who gradually lost their touch with their contents as they grew audiences.. I love you guys for that. Keep on the great work!

Guys, that was so much fun to watch! You gave us a sense of more-or-less everyday people enjoying the legendary train. I love trains and would love to enjoy the legend, too, but it's way more money that I want to spend on something like that. Fortunately, for you and for us, you were in a position to do it for us! I was surprised by the lack of people in dining rooms and lounges on board, and by the lack of a private toilet and shower in your room. Even Amtrak has the latter! I know these trains are expensive, but I would LOVE to see you riding more of these legendary trains around the world, and I'll be right along with you (on KZbin, that is). Great and safe travels, Suzanne and Jeb!

I think the train ride on the eastern & orient through Malaysia was far more impressive, unique and exciting. The details on this ride were lovely but in my experience, not at all at that price point. Having to pay so many extras.. even details like the flowers or the lack of 24/7 service, that should all be there. It seems very much more like the idea of it. The eastern route was actually special, understated elegance and one of those life experiences that seemed truly unusual which stays with you. I suppose this would differ for person to person and based on travel and location experience. But as someone who has paid thousands of dollars for a seat on a plane - I don’t really see the enjoyment here for what you’re getting for that amount. Totally subjective though!

Re formal nights, my husband and I took an epic two-month trip in 2022 to the British Isles, Isle of Man, and Ireland, all ships, trains, and ferries with the occasional rental car. No airplanes! The ships and one train, The Royal Scotsman, had formal nights, and my Irish husband felt it necessary to bring his extremely heavy wool "kilt attire," which nearly required its own suitcase. Just taking a tuxedo would have been so much simpler!! Thanks for the great review of the Orient Express!

That price is beyond outrageous. If you want a beautiful, old luxury rail journey, check out Rovos Rail in South Africa. For comparison, a 3 day journey from Pretoria to Cape Town on Rovos is $2k per person ($4k for a double), and includes all meals, beverages, excursions (which are very interesting) and a room that is much bigger than the one on Orient Express, with a Queen size bed and its own bathroom. It is better than the OE in every way, except the food quality, which is still quite good.

Yeah but also no. If you are paying that price you aren't comparing to other things. You are paying for the history and the name and yes to extent to keep out a certain kind of person. Should more be included, yes probably. Is it still busy and do people still go anyway, yup. It's like buying a very expensive Ferrari or some such and saying oh but my Honda has more cupholders, who cares you aren't cross shopping them. Likewise this and any other train. Plus Belmont are very expensive for what you get, their hotels are the same.

The trip on the Rovos Rail will be the highlight of your life time. The experience is better than any of your other train trips that I have watched.

For that kind of money I'd expect a toilet and a shower. I like "historic" but not inconvenience. Most sleeper trains have stretches of rough tracks, so a good night's sleep rarely happens. The food looked excellent!

Despite all the luxury of the literal Orient Express, it still has the European issue of the beds being perpendicular to the rails. This creates the problem of acceleration and deceleration making one feel like they're gonna fall out of the bed if they're on the upper berth. The U.S has solved this with roomette beds being parallel to the rails and upper berth netting.

@ I believe new NightJet deluxe bedrooms have parallel berths, so those might be better.

Wow, so expensive, but I love Agatha Christie and the book and the movies. I would save for a few years and do this as it's an experience that will always be remembered, a wonderful memory.

$9,000 for bunk beds just turned me right off. This is out of my budget, anyway, but that just doesn't appeal to my practicality.

Not sure anyone takes the Orient Express for "practical" reasons!
