You guys were lucky crossing the "Los 73 malditos" (the cursed 73km). This is the worst unpaved stretch on Ruta 40 because of the surface and the weather/wind. You forgot to visit the glacier in El Calafate! 😢

Oh really? The weather was very tame when we were there compared to other parts of Route 40 we were on. We will be going back to El Calafate when we go back up north to visit the glacier 😊😊

​@@tworidewild make sure to check the wind before crossing the Strait of Magellan. If it's too windy, the boat does not cross and you have to wait until the conditions get better.

I remember looking at old maps of Middle Earth. At the far edges of the known world was simply: "Here Be Dragons." It's this fascination with the unknown & unexplored that motivates us to explore. Surely El Dorado must exist just over the horizon we think to ourselves. However, when it comes to Northern Patagonia -at least on the Argentinian side - it's actually just a whole lot of nothing. Will it pay off in the end? Spoiler alert: Yes.

My wife follows a Facebook page of Argentine bikers. There was a posting last year about a biker blown off the road and died.

Yes, unfortunately we heard a few stories about bikers getting blown off their bikes. It's very serious, and somthing we didn't think was too bad until we felt the power of the wind.

The main route is the R3 (south to North). These 73km of gravel are the infamous "damn 73". just a extrange tourist point of suffering...Argentina style. Sorry 4 that.
